To be baffled at dislike for Victoria Beckham

whenever there is something online about this woman… the haters come out in force. today someone calling her “a Katie price that can keep a husband”

what is the problem? She seems like a fairly inoffensive woman who has made a success out of her life (and that was her own success: she had it before she met David)

Why is the default jealousy?! You can dislike someone without being jealous.

I'm indifferent. Reasons against would be how affected she appears by fame. For all his faults (knighthood gate, charging the charity for flights, shagging around) he still appears genuine, well as genuine as can be.

In the doc she seemed robotic, her voice was put on, affected. She's clearly got an eating disorder. For all the downsides of fame and kidnap threats, that didn't stop them from bulldozing us with Brand Beckham.

Still, they've remained married and they're the ones laughing all the way to the bank, apart from her business.

The Beckham children seem like nice enough people. The hazard is when celebs are so enamoured with their own celebrity they assume their offspring will also be gorgeous, charismatic and talented. But it doesn't always work out like that. So if your children are nice looking but in an ordinary kind of way, not particularly academic, not particularly talented in any obvious sphere, they're kind of left open to looking a bit of a laughing stock. Because they're already famous but they're struggling to find their niche.

No I don't agree. There are so many successful famous people who dont get hated. I don't think jealousy comes into it. If you're in the public eye a lot then it's very easy for people to get irritated by them. Some people are likeable some aren't, that's it.

I went through them all in my head and dismissed her. I find her hard to take these days. The affected accent, the dressing all in white, the husband she met in less than ideal circumstances. She may well be delighted with her lot in life, but I find her kind of insufferable.

He did it, whether you saw it or not. And he doesn't have to live his life in the public eye, he's the one trying to be famous, using his nepo baby credentials to try and fake his way into a industry he isn't at all qualified for.

I think the press initially disliked her because she insisted she hadnt had a boob job, and then she said the Rebecca Loos affair wasn't true. She wasnt a Katie Price who would tell them everything and they hated that. She was blamed for the affair, by people who said she deserved it because she wasn't at his side, like a good wife should be, remember.
I have always liked her though, she has raised a great family who seem to love their parents very much, and she is a hard working person, who doesn't take herself too seriously.

I think the same that maybe their parents (and the media) are expecting celeb kids, especially if they've been in the public eye, to be someone or be amazing at something.....and by the laws of averages most will be....well average! (And to be v honest VB would be considered average at a lot of things)
Buy then the kids haven't necessarily chosen to have their lives on show, but are open to criticism either way. If Brooklyn went and got a job in pret I'm sure the tabloids etc would ridicule him as well!

You need a Time Machine to take you back to the 1940s if you really believe a woman is at fault if her partner cheats and for whatever happens in his career.

I used to quite like her until the Spice Girls reunion performance at the Olympics opening ceremony in 2012. The other 4 were putting their heart and sole into the performance whereas she just mimed along half-heartedly with a face like a smacked arse which basically told anyone watching that she was too good for the Spice Girls these days because she'd bagged a footballer and had a hobby as a dress designer.

Saying that, I don't dislike her as much as I dislike Mel B. Awful woman.

I think she's brilliant. I've always liked and admired them both. They've both worked very hard for their money and success, from a young age Victoria had dance classes and David practiced his football, to the extent, they didn't have many friends or a social life growing up. When David was at school he wasn't the best footballer in the team. He was a better runner and a teacher told him to give up football and concentrate on running, but he said he liked football better and concentrated on that and practised and practised and the rest is history!

I agree that Geri Halliwell is really annoying, (although I did not know she broke up a marriage, yuck.)

But none of that has any bearing (well the latter obviously does, but we cannot see to what extent) on her success in terms of her fame, work, marriage, family, life balance. I think specifically on balance, she's better off than the Beckhams. Annoying personality and odd white clothing aside.

I am not sure why Geri wears white. Probably so that she can be easily spotted ‘minding her own business’ at a F1 race.

Julie Birchill wrote a column about negative attitudes to Victoria. She put it down to jealousy and resentment that she isn't a WAG. She has a business which is successful, there are no trashy kiss and tells about her, no scandals. She comes from a very ordinary background and is family oriented and she has David of course. I think she has made a go of her life and has shaped her own success. She's a role model for young women and girls.

I've always like her, I ready her book years ago and she came across well. I don't think she takes herself that seriously, she funny when interviewed and I have never actually heard anything much bad said about her from people who actually know her.

Got to agree, I know she can appear quite snobbish etc but it's not like she's in the press every other week expressing her opinions or saying anything outlandish. She's actually kept herself to herself surprisingly well for a celebrity so she hasn't really given anyone reason to dislike her so much . Haters gonna hate though

She is not famous because of her husband but the extent of her fame and the longevity of it are because of her marriage and the brand that’s been built around it. What the haters don’t see is that SHE built that brand. She’s a clever cookie.

People who gripe about VB’s fashion brand making a loss understand little or nothing about how fashion actually works as a large scale business. Clothing makes very little money. What it does do is act as a promotional tool for higher profit items being licensed out to manufacturers, e.g. make up, perfume, sunglasses, and for in house higher profit items like accessories and leather goods.

VB has followed the classic strategy of clothes, then leather goods and glasses, then make up then fragrance. Money has been pumped into a loss making business with a long term of goal.

It might surprise people to learn that a brand as prestigious as Alexander McQueen makes almost no money at all, and what it does make is largely down to scarves, shoes and belts.

And in any case, it was reported on Radio 4 this week that VB’s fashion business is now turning a small profit. No surprise that’s happening as the brand flows into the make up, fragrance, accessories phase.
