How awful is this colour?

We have just spent a small fortune having the majority of our home decorated for the first time ever, it’s still ongoing. It has been a huge upheaval and I am fed up of living around the decorator, it is actually making me quite depressed as we are now 4 weeks in…however - I hate this colour paint!! I adore the emerald and gold wallpaper, but the colour is just so drab. Should I book a repaint?! If so - what colour?! (In case it’s not clear, I am not good with this stuff, I thought this would look nice but clearly I got it wrong 😩) everyone is telling me to live with it because I am finding the whole decorating process so stressful they think I’m crazy to voluntarily go through it again, partner included even though he doesn’t like the colour either.

YABU - it’s not that bad, just live with it

YANBU - yes it’s awful, change it (please give a suggested colour too!)

Wallpaper: Boutique Marquise Emerald Geometric
Paint: Dulux Natural Wicker

I was going to say this. Dusky pink or blush.

The Dulux one is lovely and goes well with bottle green.

Bottle green, dusky rose and magnolia with oak/beech wood and black metal is very fashionable at the moment.

If you can't face magnolia Hessian or vanilla are good alternatives

2teenboys · 07/10/2023 15:53

I would highly recommend Dulux Egyptian Cotton. Its not grey, its not beige, its just perfect

jenpil · 07/10/2023 16:17

@RachyB86 It's a nice colour, and suits home interiors.

The problem is it doesn't go with grey/silver and you seem to have a lot of that.

CherryMaDeara · 07/10/2023 16:19

Dulux Nutmeg White is also lovely.

Allthingsbrightandbeautifulx · 07/10/2023 16:20

Love the wallpaper and from your images the paint does look like it matches the gold in it but I assume in real life it doesn’t. But it also just looks like Magnolia. Not sure if someone has mentioned this as I’ve only read your posts, but do you have any left over wallpaper to get a colour match mixed to match the gold?

Flossflower · 07/10/2023 18:10

I have Dulux natural wicker in a spare bedroom at home. It doesn’t look anything like the colours in your picture. Last night it looked sort of light pink/beige in the artificial light. This morning it looked sand in the natural light. So all these people saying change your lighting may have a point. I really don’t think anyone would manage to repaint it without a splash on the wallpaper. It might look completely different with all your pictures, furniture etc.

We have this same paper in our hall and took ages to get the paint colour right. We went with a deep dusky blue colour in the end.

I think MacLoeds maidens would look lovely with this paper

I would get it repainted in a crisp white or a silver/light grey

Iwanttobeagranny · 07/10/2023 19:21

I think the darker colour of the carpet looks great against the wallpaper so maybe try and get closer to that.
If you hate the paint you’re never going to grow to love it so bite the bullet and change it now or whenever you can afford it.
Paint big swatches of colour samples in various places so you can see it in different lights. Decorator has done a great job hanging the paper it’s immaculately done x

Mojomarvel · 07/10/2023 19:34

I have that wallpaper! I paired it with Dulux cotton white. I have the matching grass paper effect wallpaper on the opposite wall 😊

Hi84 · 07/10/2023 19:52

I like the colour of the paint, it's bright and summery. I'm not keen on the colour of the wallpaper because it's dark and it reminds me of a hotel hallway.

sassyclassyandsmartassy · 07/10/2023 20:04

The emulsion is very yellow. I would recommend something like chiffon white…. More of a taupe colour.

slavetoendo · 07/10/2023 20:09

Would you consider going dark green to match the paper, B & Q will colour match anything if you take a sample of your wallpaper in get a tester pot.

Tomatina · 07/10/2023 20:22

The paint is just fine - I love yellows, they always brighten up a place in this grey climate, though matt would have been better. But I couldn't live with that wallpaper. Different tastes...

Listen2YourMother · 07/10/2023 20:26

I think it does match, how many walls is the paper on? The inside section of the wallpaper is the same colour as the walls. If you’re unhappy though just change the colour of the paint and make it slightly darker

PufferFish · 07/10/2023 20:30

I agree with most others on here. I don’t think that that colour paint works with the woodwork or the wallpaper. It reminds be of the inside of a piece of Brie! If I was you I think I’d go with a light green, something sage-y in tone. Best idea is to go and buy a load of tester pots, paint next to the wallpaper and paintwork and decide what you like best.
Good luck!

My friend used almond white with her dark green wallpaper.

The paint matches the pattern in the paper.
there isn’t really a colour that would go better I don’t think??

Mrsgreen100 · 07/10/2023 20:50

Lots of green plants , pictures and some good mirrors will help
it looks like magnolia from the pictures,
not a fan of yellow ish tone paints
but add stuff ,

We had that colour in our hall. I never liked it and it annoyed me every day. It's not landlord magnolia it's more a primrose yellow. We've just had the hall painted a lovely mushroom colour (brown bunny) and I love it! Definitely go for an earthy colour - oyster white or champagne white would go really well. Oyster white has a green undertone that would really complement the wallpaper.

Is that your before and after? Looks completely gorgeous and just love the paint name!
