And before I get piled on, yes I know generally the doctors priory is preserving maternal life… but I’ve got a feeling a certain someone will have something to say about that too.

lifeturnsonadime · 01/10/2023 14:22

But the pro- life position is that a woman's body is not really her own.

Once a woman gets pregnant no matter the reason for it, there is no choice. The foetus is more important than the woman.

This is not a position that is in any way compatible with feminism or women's rights.

It's not a position that I can get my head round another woman holding.

Babochan88 · 01/10/2023 14:24

Respectfully, I purposely ignored your question because I don’t need to disclose my personal life on the internet. my personal circumstances have no baring on this discussion, neither do yours.

This is just a discussion, we don’t need to make things personal.

However I understand it’s brought up many difficult feelings for people which I’m sorry about. The topic of abortion is hard and complicated and challenging and difficult. I do understand that every situation is difficult and needs its own particular wisdom.

There are such sad stories on this thread. And very brave women for sharing them. 💐

pointythings · 01/10/2023 14:29

@Babochan88 your position has indeed brought up difficult feelings. One of them is disgust. But you've certainly strengthened the determination of those of us who feel that a woman should always have the choice, so thank you for that. If the UK ever goes the way you would like it to, I'll be out there protesting, fighting, getting arrested, going to jail if I have to. It's a hill I will die on as a parent of daughters.

@Babochan88

You've said that in your ideal world, you would choose for a mother to have to carry a baby to term and give birth to them even if they know the baby will definitely die a painful death on or shortly after delivery. Could you explain why you morally think that is better than a peaceful end to their existence with what is currently called a termination for medical reasons?

In your ideal world, would you also choose for a mother with existing children to have to carry a baby to term and give birth to them even if they know that doing so will cause them (the mother) severe and life changing injuries? What about if it would cause the mother to die but the baby would live? That's a real choice that some people have to make so I wonder which you think is the morally right one - saving the mother or saving the unborn baby?

ginandtonicwithlimes · 01/10/2023 14:41

CantFindTheBeat · 01/10/2023 14:16

In case you missed my question - how many children do you have @Babochan88 ?

I suspect none.

Longdarkcloud · 01/10/2023 14:42

Apparently in the US
the majority of women of child bearing age killed by there husbands/partners whatever, are pregnant.
Great way to avoid aborting an unwanted child!
The number of babies and young children killed by parents/caregivers, appears huge judging by US crime reports and court cases.
Live sentient children are not valued and the same religious extremists who are anti-abortion advocate corporal punishment to keep children well behaved, and generally support capital punishment.
You are quite correct OP — and the future looks hideous.
When I was young I campaigned for Abortion law reform and other feminist issues. The future looked truly promising. Now I despair.

This is a very personal discussion to many on here, @Babochan88

You've judged and made your position clear about what many women have had to go through.

How convenient that you choose not to 'disclose' your own family situation.

I imagine you do not have children.

ginandtonicwithlimes · 01/10/2023 14:44

Babochan88 · 01/10/2023 14:00

Yes, people that fight for babies to live are truly awful. It’s crazy how pro lifers are seen as evil…but the murder of babies is seen as good. Over the last few years there’s been a strong societal brainwashing which is staggering to see.

I shudder to think what else that is wrong will be called right by society or what else will be redefined by society.

To be honest, things are changing right before our eyes. Before you know it, things that you yourself know to be true and good and right will be called wrong and evil. But just because it’s legalised or just because a motto is used (ie my body my choice) doesn’t make it right. Can you think of any other things that are being redefined - with a motto attached?

Why do you think these strategies (legalisation, mottos etc) are used? Is it to change your mind about things you intrinsically know are right or true? And to get you to believe something else…?

I bet you call yourself a Christian too.

You have called people who may be read this thread or posting on it murderers

It doesn't really get more personal than that

Your implication that I and several other PP's are murders because we chose to end our pregnancies is something I do take personally. You and your cold heart made it personal.

Is there anything wrong with people belonging to faith groups?

No but as a Christian myself I can't fathom why you would want babies and women suffer?

BiscuitsandPuffin · 30/09/2023 18:56

To be fair, I recently found out what actually happens during an abortion, and I am horrified. I think we should all have open and transparent information about exactly what is happening and how the procedure is done because it is physically impossible to give informed consent without this information, it's disgraceful that they fluff over the truth and treat us like children when we're literally making life or death decisions. While I think this lawyer is going too far, I understand now why they feel so strongly about it.

Edited

Did you now? Everything?

I don't think so. You've been googling to many rare late term abortions.

Tell me about my 2 terminations.

Soubriquet · 01/10/2023 15:15

Would I personally have an abortion?

Probably not

Do I disagree with abortion?

Never. If you feel an abortion is what you need to have, then you should have the right to have one.

Just because you don’t agree with abortion doesn’t mean you have the right to impose that belief on other women.

I also agree with euthanasia. I think we should be able to euthanise someone if they are dying so they aren’t left to suffer. We do it to animals. Why do we leave humans to suffer under the guise of being kind

LookingForPurpose · 01/10/2023 15:21

The us government released paper work a few years ago that literally explained in real life terms that the USA was desperate to increase the availability of USA born babies in order to feed to the adoption market as a legitimate way to prevent Americans from adopting from abroad. So it's from a place of xenophobia as well as a shocking violation of women's rights.

CostelloJones · 01/10/2023 16:20

@Babochan88 I am a Christian myself, a practising one who takes communion.

I however do not believe in unnecessary suffering or judgement of other people’s actions. I would never dream of calling someone a murderer or judging them for choosing an abortion to spare the suffering of a child who would otherwise be in pain their whole life or if it means they wouldn’t be a suicidal pregnant woman.

Its utterly shameful some of the things you have said on here. It gives Christians a bad name and drives people away from the church for fear of not being welcomed because of their lifestyle.
