To want to take my 12kg dog in the plane cabin

BettyBoomer · 30/09/2023 12:13

I’m going to Europe this summer and I’d like to take my dog but I dont want to put the dog in the hold. There are a number of airlines that allow dogs in the cabin if they are under 10kg (KLM, AirFrance, ITA air).

does anyone know of an airline from UK to Europe that would take a 12kg dog?

thanks!

Odd. That has never happened to me anywhere in the world, including the US where I live.

Yeah, almost as though it's possible to accomodate a variety of needs without denigrating other people's right?

AirBaltic allow dogs + carrier up to 12kg.

I will have to weigh doggo todsy! 🐶 ❤️

might need a diet! 😂

and it might be cramped - so I might have to sneak her out onto the seat. Do you think anyone would mind?

I’m all for it so I looked this up. But even air Baltic have these restrictions from the UK:

On airBaltic flights FROM the United Kingdom, Iceland, Ireland and the United Arab Emirates:

  • Animals allowed in Cargo hold only (as checked baggage) or manifested cargo. Exceptions: on flights from Dublin and London Gatwick animals allowed as manifested cargo only.
  • It is not allowed to bring pets into the cabin (as hand luggage), except for service dogs.

Not at all. I didn’t see your post. Relax sweetie!

I don’t think you can take (non assistance) dogs on the Eurostar either - you’d need to drive I think!

There you go. Puts this shite to bed. As for Op suggesting that it might be cramped and might sneak the dog out onto a seat, that just confirms that this thread is just goady crap. No matter how an airline transports an animal (cabin, hold etc) they will not allow the animal to be cramped and unable to move around. They will deny boarding

Thank goodness you clarified that with the brackets. We’d have all been scratching our heads in confusion otherwise.

Oh we could easily do that. Just want to make it super easy for everyone so we get more time in our second home. We have our winter home in the Alps and was thinking of going there in the summer with dog. Won’t be doing it in the winter as we will be skiing. We have our summer home in the South of France but it’s too hot for the dog. Dog will stay in UK home when we go there.

Why on earth did you get a dog if you're just going to move homes through the year and leave it behind

Chonkadoodle · 01/10/2023 11:08

Unfortunately AirBaltic don’t fly to the south of France?

Chonkadoodle · 01/10/2023 11:08

Not from the UK anyway

Yep it’s an EU passport issued in Europe and rabies is updated yearly. Thanks for mentioning, but I don’t need the Animal health certificate. The dog has an EU passport.

How did you get your dog over to the EU before? If it have a current valid EU passport for your pooch with a yearly rabies vaccination.

They generally looked like labradors or similar but I'm no dog expert. The really really impressive thing about all of them is that they were impeccably behaved.

This is the thing.

A true assistance dog is impeccably behaved.

In USA anyone can say their dog is a ''Service dog'' and it's just a joke.

Here is a typical fake:

The dog bites it's own owner!

Yep, I’m reminded of the the “emotional support peacock”.

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2018/jan/31/not-gonna-fly-emotional-support-peacock-turned-away-by-airline

And also the US girl whose uncaged “emotional support hamster” was prevented from boarding the plane. So, rather than rebooking the flight, or asking a friend to come to the airport to collect this allegedly beloved pet, or even just abandoning it at customer services, she went to the bathroom and killed it. This was presented as the airline’s fault.

Florida college student says Spirit Airlines originally told her the pet was allowed, but denied it entry at the airport

Very true. Still, it's been better than the usual daily "dog in a café/restaurant", "dog in park" or "dog in a shop" threads that we've seen recently. 😁

Just googled and looks like dogs aren't allowed on the Eurostar unless assistance dogs.

The last time I went on Eurostar there were dogs on board but maybe they were service dogs.

Or I am confusing it with the first leg of my journey from Cologne to Brussels, on a German ICE.

At least the dogs managed not to poo in the aisle though, unlike the dog that was on my (then) SWT service home which did a very nasty smelling poo just before my station and the owner didn't bother to try to clean it up.

I'm not anti dogs. But I don't want them on a plane.

Sausagenbacon · 01/10/2023 17:30

I think the poster meant dog phobic.

WiddlinDiddlin · 01/10/2023 17:45

Eurostar - outside the UK - dogs yes but on a lap or on the floor - leashed and muzzled or in a carrier that fits in the seat floor space.

Into the UK/London - no.

Eurotunnel - yes, they're in your car - Eurotunnel is how many dogs come into the UK for Crufts.

For those of you who have never seen a pet on a flight, my cat’s carrier looks just like a regular hold-all and you wouldn’t notice that it had a cat inside.

https://sleepypod.com/air

I hate to break it to you but that’s not a cat you’ve got there. 😬

waterlego · 01/10/2023 19:35

(Joke btw)

You're lying now, cos there isn't one.

I would when I started violently sneezing, eyes running and angry welts On my skin 🙄

Lol. Very good thread.

Air Baltic don’t permit animals in cabin to be flown out of the UK. Even if they did, you’d be looking at flying via Riga rather than direct.

Air France do allow it, with an 8kg limit (doggo and carrier). You could always get a smaller dog to realise the dream, and leave it behind in the holiday home if getting it home is too hard. Sure the staff won’t mind.
