To want to take my 12kg dog in the plane cabin

BettyBoomer · 30/09/2023 12:13

I’m going to Europe this summer and I’d like to take my dog but I dont want to put the dog in the hold. There are a number of airlines that allow dogs in the cabin if they are under 10kg (KLM, AirFrance, ITA air).

does anyone know of an airline from UK to Europe that would take a 12kg dog?

thanks!

What's your dog going to do in Europe? Woof at the Sistine chapel?

🤣🤣

PriOn1 · 30/09/2023 13:32

DFDS do dog friendly cabins on their ferries.

Dogs entering the UK have to fly as cargo so you can’t even go on the same plane.

Thank fuck this isn’t a thing

It is very normal to see dogs and cats (usually in a carrier) on flights in all of the rest or the world.

for once I don’t think we can blame brexit, it was never a thing in the UK, possibly guide dogs excepted.

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 30/09/2023 13:34

Fucks sake. I'm all for dog friendly places but YABVVU.

Yes, this is correct. Within the EU you can definitely fly with your dog, same in the US. It's the UK who has always been tricky with this. If I remember correctly you can fly out of the UK with a dog in cabin with a few airlines, like KLM, but they have to be maximum 8kgs and there is no way of flying back in with them. That is if it's just a regular pet. Would probably be different if it's a service/assistance dog.

Wouldn't have ann issue with a dog on a plane - enter than yhe precious kid kicking the back of my chair repeatedly during a 4 hour flight (yes I did ask the useless parent nicely once or twice)......

PriOn1 · 30/09/2023 13:38

In my previous post,I should have said all dogs have to travel as cargo, with the exception of charter flights. So if you’re made of money, you can bring your dog to the UK in style. The rest of us have to traumatize our dogs or take a boat.

Oh bloody hell. This is so unfair on everyone.

Not really relevant but I saw a tiktok the other day of someone in the US flying with his great dane beside him. It would make my flight to be sat near such a good boy.

IncomingTraffic · 30/09/2023 13:42

I’m also in the ‘thank fuck the UK doesn’t think having dogs and cats on flights is a good idea’ camp.

Assistance animals are a different thing. Flying as a disabled person is horrendous generally. The issues with an assistance dog are only a small part of the logistical nightmare for many people.

I would hate it and want to get off the flight

Brilliant!

AInightingale · 30/09/2023 13:48

The bloody racket and nuisance of fellow passengers on flights, I'd love to travel myself in the hold, frankly. Nice and quiet.

IncomingTraffic · 30/09/2023 13:48

I can’t even imagine thinking it would be in any way reasonable to take a bloody Great Dane on a plane. In economy too.

It’s basically having no consideration for anyone else.

Plus the poor sods with allergies dealing with the recirculated air.

ASCCM · 30/09/2023 13:48

SM4713 · 30/09/2023 13:44

😂

There is no way I’d be sitting next to that.

also, what about the next person that has to pay to sit on a smelly dog hair covered seat?

dogs are taking over and I’m not in Supoort of it. They are not humans, yet they get treated with more respect!

gotomomo · 30/09/2023 13:49

They have to be able to fit in a pet carrier that can be stored under the seat in front I thought - I've never seen a non assistance dog on a plane loose

C1N1C · 30/09/2023 13:49

Yeah, I had no luck with my emotional support snake...

smallshinybutton · 30/09/2023 13:50

I'd like to sit by a falcon

Branster · 30/09/2023 13:51

How come you are you going to Europe 'this' summer? This summer ended one month ago!

StoatofDisarray · 30/09/2023 13:52

I don't get the hate. Rather a quiet dog than a drunk adult, crying baby or a badly-behaved kid.

SomeCatFromJapan · 30/09/2023 13:52

I'd like to sit by a falcon

On flights between Doha and Dubai you frequently can.

Me too!!

There is no UK registration for assistance dogs is there? So actually anyone could say “this is my assistance spaniel” and take it free of charge on any flight.

Obviously you have to pay for a larger dog like that Great Dane.

I don’t see how it’s much different to taking a dog on a long train trip really? I don’t think I have ever been on a train without a dog being present, and I use them at least twice a week. Toileting issues if a long flight…?
