It's often warmer in late September early October than august and it's often drier too. Around tge werk of the school half term is typically where it suddenly swings almost straight into winter.

ThelmaBorden · 07/10/2023 12:47

mid October is invariably mild and balmy, around the 18th, known as St Luke’s little Summer
late August is invariably wild wet and windy, calms down in the first two weeks of September, when children return to school

in England we mostly enjoy fair weather, with a temperate climate - bank bursting qriver/torrential rain caused flooding, heathland fires, dried up reservoirs, coastal erosion, Spring tides, lightning strikes, hail rain sleet and snow notwithstanding

Justin Rowlat summed it up succinctly on News at Ten last night.

It’s interesting to read people’s anecdotes about weather in past years. It’s good to know that people are getting on with their lives, and not worrying about the future - as what good would it do anyway.
Yet, it’s still surprising to find that so many are still able to perform this feat, when the news is increasingly and urgently highlighting the approaching horrors.
Perhaps it’s a pain to click on links, so I’ll just type out one paragraph from an article in Friday’s “i “ newspaper written by James Dyke, associate professor in Earth system science at the University of Exeter.
”The temperature anomaly last month didn’t just break records, it obliterated them. We are living on a planet that is 1.8 degrees C warmer than pre-industrial periods. Is global warming accelerating and out of control? Are we facing climate catastrophe sooner than we feared?”

He goes on to explain in detail what is happening and concludes

”The bottom line here is we just don’t know if the stable climate of the past 11,000 years is rapidly coming to an end, if the door to a safe operating space for humanity is in the process of being slammed shut. Beneath the surprise and shock of recent temperature increases lays a profound dread about the world we are creating.”

25C here. Feels so unnatural. Not feeling well today and want to sleep under my duvet but it's too hot. 😪

JKDcot · 07/10/2023 19:25

I do love people reminiscing it was warm before. Sure. But the data is clear. It is not regular for this time of year for this period of time and across so many continents.

I agree no use freaking out so perhaps my thread title was inappropriate but it is very concerning and real

Was hotter this time of year in
the 70’s, in an era full of pollution . Total hype. Ignore the scaremongering media morons.
Coldest average annual temperature in the UK for 2023 for 87 years. Fact.

Daftasabroom · 08/10/2023 08:43

@Snowflakeslayer how can you have an average annual temperature for a year that hasn't finished yet?

Snowflakeslayer · 08/10/2023 08:47

So far. Thought that would be fairly obvious. You can Google it too.

I tried to Google it all I got was the winter of 85 86. Perhaps you could share link, burden of proof and all that.

You do know that cutting down energy supply will be deadly for millions?

And that humans thrive in warmer periods and struggle in mini ice ages?

Who's cutting down the energy supply?

Humans thrive in temperate conditions , not too hot, not too cold.
