They tell us to help our daughters to protect themselves from male violence by thinking about what they wear, how much they drink, how late to stay out, where they go…
Are we supposed to add to the list ‘not rejecting a bunch of flowers in case you get stabbed to death’. This is horrifying.

I’m so so sick of male violence. It feels everywhere and inescapable. More luck than anything that your daughter isn’t the one. This poor girl and her family.

Teenage boy stabbed girl, 15, to death with 'a machete after argument'

Met Police officers rushed to Wellesley Road outside the Whitgift shopping centre. Paramedics battled to save the 15-year-old's life but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

You were only able to 'stand up for yourself' because the men around you allowed you to. It's a fallacy that a woman only has to be bolshy or strong enough to be safe. And tbh it's insulting to the girl who was murdered and to every other woman and girl who has been assaulted, robbed, raped or murdered to imply the risk from men has been exaggerated or can be offset by a jaunty manner.
And here's the thing - decent men would think long and hard about the behaviour they condone from other men if that behaviour impacted them. So a curfew, a woman's strike, a jail term for sending dick pics or rape/death threats online - any or all of it would send a clear message that those are lines not to be crossed.
I have a Dh, DS, brothers, nephews - none of them would be crying if measures were brought in to try to curb male violence. Because they're not selfish, deluded arses who think women's safety is less important than any man's right to do whatever he wants.

You are lucky that you were strong enough to stand up to the unwanted attention of men.
Also, you could aim a bit higher. It would be a better society if individual women didn't have to rely on standing up to unwanted male attention and could peacefully go about their business without it.

It would, but then I’m a realist. Slapping restrictions on men’s freedoms is unlikely to result in more respectful behaviour from them, imo.

I'm originally from the area so been following this story in horror, read somewhere today that they now believe the victim was not the ex girlfriend but her friend who tried to interview and help her friend..
I traveled though Croydon for school and my daughter was at school in Central Croydon about 15 yes ago their were school children being stabed then but not at peek time in the morning it terrifying.
Their are times when I miss Croydon and Sutton well I miss the public transport, but then I hear terrible stories like this .
My thoughts are with this poor girls friends and family terriblle times

Seeing the pictures today of a happy healthy smiling beautiful girl, and knowing that she has been robbed of her entire future, her life cut short in fear and blood and pain, dying on the street, I find myself close to tears. But I can't even tell if it's sorrow for her and her family, or rage that this has happened again. That male violence has wiped out yet another precious life.

Weedoormatnomore · 28/09/2023 18:41

Why did they work on her for 50 minutes at the bus stop? Surely they should have taken her to hospital.

Boomboom22 · 28/09/2023 18:44

Right, so we are not allowed to talk about factors. Ffs. I grew up in Croydon and I'm not allowed to state facts. Maybe look at crime stats and the ons. I am really really not happy my post was deleted. No discussion allowed. No wonder nothing changes!

My point was that I have never felt the need to obey the list of instructions that apparently all women have to adhere according to the person’s post I was responding to who was defending the idea that men should be subject to a curfew. I just think it’s an overstatement that all or most women have to watch out for their safety every time they leave the house for fear of being attacked by a man. Of course dreadful things can happen and even despite every care and precaution a woman may may take to guard their own safety. I don’t mean to insult any victims, I have as a 15 year old been a victim of a sexual assault by a man in a public place myself but I haven’t gone through life viewing all men as potential rapists and murderers that need segregating from female society to teach them a lesson..

I suspect they were doing their upmost to try and safe her life? Maybe moving her would have been considered detrimental given her injuries and they were doing everything they could.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 28/09/2023 18:52

My heart goes to to this girl's mum, family and friend.

She had aspirations to become a lawyer and seems like a very decent, loyal, friend and brave lady from what I've read.

So needless and such a waste of life. I really hope this guy gets life. While it won't bring her back, her family deserve justice.

Because they were trying to stabilise her enough to get her to hospital.

Sunshinenrain · 28/09/2023 18:56

I’ve also heard she was the friend of the ex, which makes her incredibly brave.

I think they worked on her so long to try and stabilise her before moving her.

It would have only taken a couple of minutes to get her into the ambulance but that couple of minutes could have made all the difference.
Stabilising her first, would have been the best way to keep her alive.

I think that she just lost to much blood too quickly.
One witness said it was just constantly pouring out like water.

nocoolnamesleft · 28/09/2023 19:01

If the London air ambo was out, then I suspect it wouldn't just have been paramedics there, it would also have been an experienced prehospital medicine doctor with trauma experience. If so, there is no way I'd try to second guess their opinion. The scoop and run approach tends to be more appropriate if paramedics alone.

I should imagine tragically due to the severity of her injuries they never got to the point where she was stable enough to transfer to hospital. As with other emergency services around the UK, the London Ambulance Service and Helimed teams will be highly trained to perform specialist trauma care at the roadside and would’ve done everything they could have to try and save her.
RIP beautiful girl. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain her family and friends must be going through.

It’s horrendous. So futile

I’m reminded of the beautiful university couple and the mother and child at the private school

So much goodness and life to live

It’s so, so sad

Itllbefine6 · 28/09/2023 19:06

No, apparently we need to add to the list: 'if your friend's scumbag boyfriend turns up with flowers trying to get back together, just don't get involved.'

This comment is disgusting.

frustratednomad · 28/09/2023 19:11

Gangs, drugs, violence, knife crime is disgusting

Weedoormatnomore · 28/09/2023 19:15

I understand the trying to stabilise her just surprised nearly 50 mins on a street. Sounds like ambulances really tried 3 teams sent out. Also the poor girl died within minutes after being stabbed twice. My god once but twice can't believe kids can do this! DD same age can't imagine what that family is going through. will be in my prayers.

And you think that white boys aren’t involved in all of the above?

Come and work a day at my place. You might learn something.

I’m lost for words. I’m astounded that any women would make such a comment.

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 28/09/2023 19:18

That per capita Croydon is 10th out off all London boroughs for knife crime?

Quirkyme · 28/09/2023 19:19

Exactly @SofiYol

That comment was absolutely loaded. Absolutely vile.

SofiYol · 28/09/2023 19:25

@Quirkyme I’ve reported it
