To intensely dislike Keir Starmer

1000 replies

LemonyTicket · 27/09/2023 00:42

I can't stand Tories.
The current Tories are the worst

But I still intensely dislike Keir Starmer and will probably vote Green.

I find him phony, with no vision, like a terrible 6th form prefect. And to be honest his whole front bench are dreadful. Wes Streeting nauseates me.

Is it just me?

The treasury note was most definitely NOT a joke!
BIossomtoes
It was. And one started by a Tory chancellor.

Was this supposed to be a joke as well?

25 March 2010
Alistair Darling admitted tonight that Labour's planned cuts in public spending will be "deeper and tougher" than Margaret Thatcher's in the 1980s, as the country's leading experts on tax and spending warned that Britain faces "two parliaments of pain" to repair the black hole in the state's finances.

So what do you actually think Labour will DO?

It will probably take a minimum of two terms to get anywhere near addressing the shit show the Tories will be leaving.

StarlightGin · 27/09/2023 19:54

Oh, x post

Yup, two people who think they own the thread. A bit like born to rule.

Lastchancechica · 27/09/2023 20:01

No sign of an answer….
Why because NOTHING will change for this poor woman. There is every possibility that things could get much worse.

And this is the crux of it.
People are being sold a false dream, a fake narrative by Labour. That somehow by voting for Labour their problems will magically disappear, and this is very very very far from the truth.

Labour is selling a pipe dream, a dream it has no hope of fulfilling.

There is an economic reality, as hard as it is to face the truth.

ilovesooty · 27/09/2023 20:04

It's not possible for Labour to publish firm promises until they get into office and thoroughly assess the mess they're inheriting.

Anyone realistic and with a vestige of intelligence understands that.

You don’t need to ‘get into office’ to see the debt the country is in thanks to the pandemic and the war/COL nor the prospects for the country. It’s freely available information. You are yet again making excuses.

We’ve also seen how the minute they produce a sensible policy the government swoops in and steals it. Like the energy windfall tax. Best they keep their powder dry until an election’s announced and save it for the manifesto.

Houseplanter · 27/09/2023 20:09

It would, however, be good to have some idea of their answers so we could make an informed decision. Rather than the vague wafting of Starmer or his determined contradictions.

Pieceofpurplesky · 27/09/2023 20:09

Well she still has a job, and a roof over her head. Neither a given.

Only just. The roof is only still here as I sold a car and rent out a room. Really not ideal.

And as for a job - I am over 50 and an expensive teacher. Who knows how long I will last if the tories don't up the budgets.

Under labour I hope for a much better education system that relies on a young staff that quickly leave and that value experience. Also one that deals with SEMH kids. That's just a start.
I would quite like regular hospital visits for my disability and better care for my mum. Not getting it now - labour at least offer a hope
Of an improvement

No, they really are not.
The state of the country is very clear to anyone that uses and relies on public services - nobody believes Labour has a magic wand.

Well let's have a bloody election then.

Let's get those manifestos printed!

He’ll get there eventually. Or maybe not given the endless changes

CurlewKate · 27/09/2023 20:12

@Lastchancechica "I ask this gently. What on earth do you suppose Labour will do for you?"

What will the Tories do for her?

Notonthestairs · 27/09/2023 20:13

Not sure Conservatives are in the best position to throw shade about U turns.

CurlewKate · 27/09/2023 20:13

Neither party has yet published their manifestos.

Perhaps she's benefited from Liz Truss becoming PM, like @Lastchancechica has. 🙄

Why isn’t the current government doing those things?

Why isn’t the current government doing those things?

Such a lame answer

Thementalloadisreal · 27/09/2023 20:23

PandaExpress · 27/09/2023 19:01

I've over simplified it by giving the "women can have a penis" quote. What matters is that policies which say a man can self identify as a woman, mean men ('transwomen') can be placed in women's prisons, women's refuges, women's changing rooms and toilets. Enter the women's categories in sports and take prizes/scholarships that are for females. This has happened and it continues to happen. And I care about it. As a woman and as a mother of girls. I want them to have a level playing field in life and to have safe, female only spaces. It's important enough to me, to consider these policies when voting.

Frankly, you’re scared of the wrong thing. If a man wanted to attack a woman in the toilets he’d just walk in and do so. There is no need to identify as a woman to do that, there never has been.

CurlewKate · 27/09/2023 20:27

@Lastchancechica Have you noticed who's in power? Just checking.....

YokoOnosBigHat · 27/09/2023 20:28

I totally get how you might find him on the telly- because I probably did a bit too. But I was lucky enough to meet him and then see him speak publicly and he's quite different in person. And I now really believe he means what he said- I saw him talking about human rights and what's gone wrong under this government and it was genuinely inspiring... but I had never seen any of that on TV... maybe because politics shows aren't that interested in showing that stuff? And I think he's oddly stiff and sometimes unappealing (and comes across a bit insincere sometimes) on TV generally. I don't know why that is. And it's really unfortunate.

Lastchancechica · 27/09/2023 20:22

It’s a good question, isn’t it? After all they’ve had 13 years. Surely you must be disappointed they haven’t run with your brilliant ideas?

Thementalloadisreal · 27/09/2023 20:31

@PandaExpress Also, female only sport was designed to be inclusive. Because females were being excluded from “mens” sport. There needs to be a way for trans athletes to compete fairly, the answer is certainly not more and more binary attitudes to sport
