To intensely dislike Keir Starmer

1000 replies

LemonyTicket · 27/09/2023 00:42

I can't stand Tories.
The current Tories are the worst

But I still intensely dislike Keir Starmer and will probably vote Green.

I find him phony, with no vision, like a terrible 6th form prefect. And to be honest his whole front bench are dreadful. Wes Streeting nauseates me.

Is it just me?

The original act was 2004 during Tony Blair.

Exactly. Where do people get this stuff from

Self ID wasn’t 2004 which is what we’re discussing here. It clearly didn’t bother anyone then, did it? Blair’s government was re elected the following year.

People can’t often take a balanced view when it comes to Red vs Blue. Facts get in the way when you want to support ‘your team’. Neither party is a friend to women right now IMO, but at least the Tories aren’t (openly at least on mass) saying we have penises.

No wrong again I didn’t say Self ID I said

Yes the GRA is where men could first legally change sex, under Labour.

I've got no problem with him having an ordinary middle class upbringing in a nice house with nice parents. I just find it excruciating that he keeps pretending he's from the streets or something.

He had a very ordinary upbringing

Not really - his sixth form education was fully in the private sector and his favourite music is Beethoven.

In his early years [the Labour leader] played the flute, piano, recorder and violin, and was once a young scholar at the Guildhall School of Music in London.

https://www.classicfm.com/discover-music/sir-keir-starmer-flute-recorder-guildhall-scholar/

So you can't have an 'ordinary' upbringing and your favourite music be Beethoven? WTAF 😂

CurlewKate · 27/09/2023 12:46

@Clavinova "Not really - his sixth form education was fully in the private sector and his favourite music is Beethoven."

Because the selective state school he attended became private while he was there. And are you suggesting that "ordinary people" can't like Beethoven?🤔

Labour run Wales is worse

No it isn’t. I live there.
many if the issues with health in Wales are caused by demographics - an older population and a history of heavy industry so the older people have worse health than in many areas of England. Funding is also dependent on what Westminster will allow (and we’ve been robbed millions of consequentials from HS2 which has been classified and England and Wales project despite none of it coming anywhere near). Despite that we have free prescriptions and when I had a knee issue I’d seen a GP, had a hospital x ray and been treated within a month.

As I've said previously he doesn't get my vote, but I have never noticed him pretending to be from the streets.

Clavinova · 27/09/2023 12:49

Perhaps Keir Starmer's multiple music lessons at school meant he missed out on biology lessons?

Rishi Sunak has said he believes that 100 per cent of women do not have penises.
By contrast, Sir Keir earlier this month suggested that as many as one in every thousand women has a penis.

SummerWhisper · 27/09/2023 04:34

He's not a decent man, he's a liar and a bully. He has broken the pledges on which he was elected as leader; he rules the Labour Party with tyranny, treating decent socialist members with contempt, in the main not allowing socialists to be re-elected because he wants to replicate the Tory Party. About 200,000 members have left or been expelled, plenty on spurious grounds.

He is a hypocrite, pretending to be working class when his policies will make poor people and families poorer or no better off.

He treats his own party members with contempt - this is how he will treat the general public.

He is vain and arrogant; a Boris Johnson without the buffoonery.

Exactly this!!! Well said

The austerity measures brought in by the Tories have disproportionately affected women. Women are poorer, taking on more unpaid care, and so on as a directly result of Conservative policies.

It’s either a) a luxury or b) cutting off your nose to spite your face, to base your vote solely on the trans issue.

And for what it’s worth I 100% agree with you - women can’t have penises. But you have to take a broad view. Politics - and in particular what politicians say - is not black and white.

I agree. But you have to know what we are to have statistics proving the negative effect policy can have on us. If anyone who decides they’re a woman can distort stats - how can you see what’s affecting us?

Motherhood penalty for example.

Women often end up working part time or leaving the workplace due to child care commitments. A 50yo man & father in a high position which is dominated by men suddenly decided he’s a woman with no transition of any sort. He now calls himself a mother. Adding him to our stats now distorts the impact of motherhood on a woman’s career and economic prospects.

So suddenly; the problem diminishes each time we’re distorting our female stats with these male outliers. It all interlinks thus I don’t believe it’s hyperbole.

Goodornot · 27/09/2023 00:46

I love the NHS.

The NHS is one of the reasons I won't vote Labour. Already almost 10% of the NHS is private partnerships...Wes Streeting has outright admitted they intend to extend that.

In my view this is a disastrous idea. We don't need private partnerships. 15 years ago when the NHS was fully public sector we had much better value and much better service.

The fact they're taking enormous donations from various private healthcare speaks for itself. Noses in the trough. If you think they don't personally profit, think again. Blair made himself a very rich man, as well as his kids.

And before you say "oh but we need private beds and staff" - of course we don't. Public sector can buy beds and hire staff! Most private doctors are NHS too! It's just a pretty pathetic way to hoodwink us into accepting profits in the NHS.

I really can't bring myself to vote for them I'm afraid. Policy wise they are to the right of David Cameron and look how that worked out.

We need sensible policies that are about people having okay lives - not this nauseating profiteering off absolutely EVERYTHING.

Agree with all of this

CurlewKate · 27/09/2023 12:52

Incidentally-I am pretty sure there is no factual basis for the assertion that Starmer's father owned a factory.

randomrandom · 27/09/2023 12:52

HotApplePiePunch · 27/09/2023 12:31

I don't dislike him but I'm still waiting for him to win me over.

I'm a center left floating voter and I don't know who the fuck I'm going to vote for - they all look poor options.

Labour supporters on here don't help - they've taken to dismissing Welsh issues but I live here and they affect me directly.

The best I've heard well they couldn't be worse than the Tories - which has some merit given RAAC debacle but then I hear some statements often around but not exclusively women issues from shadow cabinet members and think fuck are any of them capable of critical thinking at all.

Personally I think Labour supporters on social media are Labours biggest problem - so many are so vitriolic to people that dare to have a different view.

You can see it on the threads on Mumsnet over the last couple of days - some have been calling people evil, stupid, uneducated etc and as a floating voter it REALLY turns me off. Having a go at people is hardly going to help them see your point

IdleAnimations · 27/09/2023 12:52

BIossomtoes · 27/09/2023 12:50

You never post any evidence for your assertions. 🤷‍♀️

GRA was 2004 under Blair which required a medical diagnosis to change your sex marker on ID.

Reform proposed in 2018 during Tory rule wants to remove the need for a medical board which brings in Self ID essentially.

I don’t understand why you’re finding this so difficult?

EasternStandard · 27/09/2023 12:52

BIossomtoes · 27/09/2023 12:50

Again

The Gender Recognition Act(GRA) enables trans people to change their legal gender by acquiring a gender recognition certificate, and to change their birth certificate.

Bloody hell. Is it really that difficult for you?

They are simple words. Google it. GRA 2004

LemonyTicket · 27/09/2023 12:53

Im not being literal. What I'm saying is, he is using (by being fairly disingenuous because his upbringing was nice and relatively privileged) the rehearsed lines about his Dad being a toolmaker in order to appear working class when he definitely wasn't. And even if he was, it's manipulative.

I'm quite old and couldn't tell you the professions of the parents of any past prime minister! He bangs on about it to manipulate people. Truth is, he's a pretty swanky guy who likely mixes in very upper class circles and he's probably never in his life gone hungry or cold or dealt with our everyday problems like not being able to afford childcare.

I'd respect him if he was authentic and said "I came from a nice home and have been really fortunate"

OP posts:
CallieQ · 27/09/2023 12:54

I don't give a monkeys about anything he said about women and penises but agree he's a decent man and preferable to any of the vile Tories
