To intensely dislike Keir Starmer

1000 replies

LemonyTicket · 27/09/2023 00:42

I can't stand Tories.
The current Tories are the worst

But I still intensely dislike Keir Starmer and will probably vote Green.

I find him phony, with no vision, like a terrible 6th form prefect. And to be honest his whole front bench are dreadful. Wes Streeting nauseates me.

Is it just me?

Well, i respect that pov but the fact remains is that the vast majority don't care, they see it for what it is, a diversion from peoples real lives, so my MIL final got her hip operation 4 years after first referred, a friend who has lost her leg is still waiting for an OT assessment some 18 months after first told she needs one.

How is that "respecting" womens rights.?

I also want womens rights respected, maintained and improved but from my experience over the last decade or so, its the Tories that have trashed them - did they do a single thing about men in womens and girls sports? nope didn't lift a finger.

The Tories stopped misogyny being out lawed, says it all.

The Tories stopped misogyny being out lawed, says it all.

You do realise Labour include gender so Men in the hate crime?

Do you feel comfortable with misgendering being a crime?

As for improvements you’ll (and Labour) will have to state where the funding will come from

Lastchancechica · 27/09/2023 08:06

And yet.. he thinks we have penises.

Could you trust ANY leader that clearly does not know what a woman is???

Can you trust any leader that does know what a women is yet gives no fucks about them.

Where is the law banning mixed toilets/changing rooms etc
Where is the law banning the hateful counter demos at "let Women Speak" and other such events
Where is the funding to support children and young adults with their MH
Where is the ££ to improve maternity care
Where is the ££ to support those women who are caring for children/ or elderly/disabled relatives.
Where is the ££ to help women fleeing DV

So as I said, the Tories may know what a women is but they couldn't give a fuck about us.

LadyBird1973 · 27/09/2023 08:49

KS bends whichever way the wind is blowing and that's not a good trait in a leader. Yes, they have to represent public opinion but they also need to possess core principles! I'm not sure KS believes in anything other than saying the opposite of whatever the Tories espouse.

My problem with Labour and the left wing generally is that we end up in a nanny state. I'm in Wales where we've just had a default 20mph driving limit imposed, no matter how unsuitable in many areas. And during Covid, bring dictated to about what we could buy in supermarkets, such was the level of unnecessary control exercised over the nation. You can see the SNP and some of their batshit crazy policies attempting to do the same.

This isn't a defence of the Conservatives - they've been woefully inept (at best). But I'm reluctant to give power to a party that's seemingly equally incapable of proper governance.

The trans thing isn't about hating TW - it's about protecting female spaces snd rights from men who would abuse being given access to them. Anyone who says it's hatred for TW is being deliberately obtuse.

Fannydombey · 27/09/2023 08:50

This. A vote for anything other than labour is a vote for the tories. How many of those refusing to vote labour due to “their principles” are personally using food banks or having their vital services taken away? The tories have ruined countless lives and brought the country to its knees and you want more because Starmer defended trans women? Grow up and see the bigger picture for pity’s sake. Get the tories out AND THEN address the issues that matter to you.

Dramatic · 27/09/2023 08:53

Yeah I don't really care what he's like as long as the Tories don't get in again.

’Too Long’

What?! You’ll only engage with something below a certain word-count, but you presumably expect other people to read and respect your own opinions in your posts?

My "passion" is domestic violence, 2 women a week die at the hands of men in a domestic setting.

What have the Tories done about that in 13 years?

They ve cut funding for refuge's, they even cut UC if a woman had a safe room, they refused to fund FSM's for the poorest children.

Men are winning in female sports, its the governing bodies that have reduced this awful state of affairs.

Whats wrong with equal rights?

Xenia · 27/09/2023 08:57

The long anti Tory post above is a bit unfair on the Tories. Theresa May stopped the then proposed gender change laws during her term. The Tories are about to issue the long delayed trans guidance for schools - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2023/09/02/ehrc-reviews-pro-trans-advice-school-changing-rooms/ although it must be hard to draft and keeps being delayed.

Rights watchdog reviews pro-trans advice on school changing rooms

Campaigners say EHRC ‘wrongly interpreted’ the Equality Act, based on the false premise that under 18s could legally change sex or gender

Its very difficult for any opposition leader to stick to announcements made when facts around them change or they don't have all the information that only a Govt will have.

Personally, i'd rather KS changes his ideas as the facts change, become known or evolve.

Opposing the Tories is in the job description!

Dramatic · 27/09/2023 08:58

EasternStandard · 27/09/2023 08:34

just another culture war

Women’s rights are not a ‘culture war’ as much as the left try to use that excuse and some pick up on same language

Others may not care, and are fine to go with TRA stance but no thanks

I want legislative change to protect women’s rights as a sex class.

So are you going to vote Tory then? Do you think they're more likely to do what you want?

Whats wrong with equal rights?

I‘m not sure what you mean by this question. Do you mean what’s wrong with men having equal access to female spaces?

Or something else, can you define?

LadyBird1973 · 27/09/2023 09:03

Making misogyny a crime is a problem for me - what constitutes misogyny when it comes down to the nitty gritty? Making a bad taste joke? Not giving a promotion to a female candidate? Wolf whistling? This could all be very woolly and resulting in people getting criminal records for hurting someone's feelings. And that's before you get to the misgendering crap. No, I don't want a law that controls every aspect of human interaction or that forces me to collude in a lie.

Dontcallmescarface · 27/09/2023 09:03

KS bends whichever way the wind is blowing and that's not a good trait in a leader.

So no Tory PM (and let's face it we've had a fair few since 2010), has ever backtracked or done a U-turn when it comes to announcing policies?

Mirabai · 27/09/2023 09:04

BadHairAtFestivals · 27/09/2023 00:56

I first came across Keir Starmer when he was DPP. His views and opions were incredibly reasonable and well thought out. I don't necessarliy think he's the best leader that there is but he's a decent man. I hate the Tories so much that I'd rather a decent man tbh. Tories are vile.

He did some really good work for women and rape. Commissioning research into false claims of rape and dv which proved them to be very low.

Too rude.

helford · 27/09/2023 09:05

A report out from cross party MPs on how this Govt has totally stood by and allowed over 120k children to skip school, many are young girls and all will have a female as parent.

Tories talk a lot but do little, their kids don't use the state sector, same why they do nothing about the NHS, they don't use it & if they ever did, they 'll all get a single sex ward.

LadyBird1973 · 27/09/2023 09:05

Like I said, am not defending the Tories. And while opposing them is in the job description, its supposed to come from a place of genuinely held beliefs, not some wishy washy attempt to say what they think the more gobby twitter users want to hear at any given moment.

Do you think they're more likely to do what you want?

I’m looking for legislative change and have watched the process from WM debate to letter to ECHR and now consultation stage on legal change.

We’re going against the international tide with this so it won’t be easy but I do not see any other way for protection on women as a sex class

LadyBird1973 · 27/09/2023 09:07

I'm genuinely in a place where I don't know who to vote for. Can't vote Tory and am too scared to vote Labour because I think they will fuck it up just as badly but in a different way to the tories.

And when labour fund the refuges 100% but only if they admit males into the rape centres, dv shelters, emergency housing for victims.

Then what?

You're blind if you think that won't happen.

In just the last couple days a man got East Midlands Outstanding Female LGBTQIA+ Champion 2023 at the Women's Awards...

And a woman was spoken to by police for refusing a Pride Themed carrier bag...

Good luck helping victims of Rape and DV when Men can enter their refuges and safe spaces.

I think KS does have strongly held beliefs but one has to differentiate between a back bencher responding on Twitter and a front bench shadow minister.

For example, he is a committed european BUT we had a vote, that has to be respected plus he has to win over the lost red wall seats, no point sticking to a pov but staying in opposition.

This reminds me of the thread from an mner who cannot access single sex rape support because venues said no to excluding men.

All those upset about the misogyny hate crime, this is entirely the thing we’ll lose rights over

Men in rape centres as they will be included in the definition of misogyny

Squiblet · 27/09/2023 09:13

Starmer is coming across as fence-sitting and dull because he's playing the long game. He's clearly wary of following the Corbyn/Bernie path and putting off voters who rabidly dislike anything leftie, or making himself a target for media outlets that sneer at "wokeism". So he's treading a centrist path very carefully.

I don't know whether it's a good strategy or not - but he was a pretty effective DPP, so hopefully once he's in power he'll come out of his protective shell and act more decisively.

PineNeedler · 27/09/2023 09:15
