Look, I don’t particularly like his policies so far. I feel he is isn’t allowing different voices within the party and isn’t focused nearly enough on climate breakdown and reducing inequality to my mind. BUT
At the moment I’d have my Uncle’s cat in power rather than the current bunch of lying, greedy, corrupt psychopaths. Kier would, I’m pretty sure, be better than Henry the cat. He’s calm, collected and has previously acted in line with a strong set of values.
Would I date him? No. Would I chose him for a wild night out? No. Would I trust him to look after my DC. Yes!! would I trust him to stay with me and call an ambulance if he found me unconscious on the street? Yes! He’s caring and dependable. He’s not charismatic and exciting. Rishi isn’t exactly exciting. He’s like a small child playing at being a grown up.
But what characteristics do we want in a PM? Government isn’t reality TV. It’s real life and effects us all. Our lives literally depend on politics. The pandemic showed us that. Decisions at the top in every country around the world literally saved lives and led to deaths.
There is no Green candidate here. The Green Party aren’t ready to Govern generally. Sadly.
I feel like Kier will do well in terms of being honest with us, will do his best to look after us, whilst getting the economy back on its feet. He will be focused on the job and I truly believe he will do his absolute best and has a strong skill set. He’s far more knowledgeable and intelligent than the current lot.
I think in the event of a situation like a pandemic he’d be calm and measured (not go around boasting about shaking hands against medical advice, see it as an opportunity for his mates to make money and then party while the rest of us sat alone at loved ones funerals). He will be calm and dependable and will, as he had to do within his legal career, manage lots of different information, advice and research, process and assimilate it and then use it and his values to make decisions. He will use his brain and his humanity to make decisions. Not his ego. I feel confident of that from what I’ve seen so far.
I think on the global stage he has credibility and gravitas and won’t make us a laughing stock like the current lot (oh the embarrassment of Boris and Truss).
Im going to vote for them because here, they are the only possibility of ousting the Tory, self serving, sleaze bucket we currently have locally.
My worst fear is Labour will continue its middle of the road, lukewarm policies on social inequality and climate and we will be in a slightly better position than we are now, because at least he’s a grown up and at least he’ll be honest.
My best hope is that things are quiet and middle of the road now, in order to not make any negative headlines and that the party are getting themselves ready for an exciting party conference and storming election and will get into power with some strong plans to get us to net zero, get infrastructure in place to cope with extremes of weather and will pay for all of this by taxing WEALTH more, rather than raising income tax thus reducing inequality and making house ownership more widely achievable.
Something in between those two is the most likely I guess.
What is abundantly clear to me is that anything (literally anything) would be better than the current lot, who can’t even be relied upon for the one thing they claim is their ‘thing’ - a strong and healthy economy. Trickle down economics DOESN’T work guys!!! Unless your aim is to make the already very wealthy, even more wealthy, at the expense (in terms of money, health and well-being) of the rest of us.
I will be voting Labour unless something very drastic changes.
