What with his random shite this week about scrapping a non-existent meat tax and an imaginary 7 bins, actually scrapping his own home insulation workforce that was only set up a few months ago, scrapping any useful bits of HS2 and now scrapping A-levels (which is so far removed from what is actually possible in schools right now that it's not even funny), what the fuck is he on?

He's just flailing around madly scrapping everything in case someone, somewhere might vote Tory over it.

And he was supposed to be the sensible replacement to Liz Truss.

Very pleased Sunak has flip flopped on the meat taxes, the 7 sin bins tax and the hated curfew to shop tax.....

I must admit scrapping National Service for hamsters was a genius move. Although I will concede to Clav that when Labour were in power in the 1700s, the pit pony tax was bad.

Also good he's rowed back (since when was that USism a thing ?) on the plan for schools on the moon.

While were at it can anyone else suggest something that was never going to happen that Rish! can take credit for scrapping ?

A younger colleague has rather mischievously suggested that Rish! may be looking to take over from James Acaster on "Hypothetical". Although I do agree he'd need a big cushion.

Sunak's maths is up to scratch as usual

Sunak’s “Plan For Drivers” claimed that 42% of all parking fines are successfully appealed

the actual figure? 0.24%

They ve had years to stop private parking companies robbing people with £100 plus fines, poor signage and threat of court judgements against the motorist.

Well yes. But as you well know (Clav posted a link) Labour stole all the pencil lead in 1972 and it's taken years for the Tories to restore things to halfway normal.

Knowing what a woman is. Part ll

Over the past four years, police forces have referred 260 “females” to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to consider a charge of rape.

A further 209 suspects have been recorded with an “unknown” sex, which is understood to include those who identify as non-binary.

By law, rape can only be committed by a biological male.

Yep all happening under the party that knows what a woman is....

Sunak's maths is up to scratch as usual

Have you seen the balls-up at the DfE where a maths error means they told schools that they were getting £370 million more than they actually are?

And that they knew about it at the start of September but waited till the Conference was over to admit to it?

Scary that someone this careless with figures is responsible for our economy.

One thing I have learned over the years - and it has saved many a young career - is that everybody fucks up. If were were to punish people for fucking up, it would be like punishing them for breathing.

So if everyone fucks up, how can you tell them apart ?

That's where the special sauce comes in.

It's not that you fucked up that mattered. It's how you dealt with it. If you quickly admitted it, and engaged with the affected to rectify the situation, you are halfway towards salvation.

If you lie, deny, distract; minimise, accuse and evade then you will pay a heavy price.

If most customer service teams worked on remembering that, rather than fucking pronouns, a lot more companies would be doing a lot better.

It's why I still use Amazon (after 25 years) and haven't used eBuyer in any capacity since 2016. For example. And eBuyer only fucked up once.

@SerendipityJane thing is I can kind of understand if a Tory is a Tory through and through regardless of how shit they currently are - however it takes real dedication to keep doing the 'but labour' Schtick- when they haven't had a whiff of power for 13 years

Well exactly. It's a good comedy turn though. It's quite amusing to see the desperation and frantic whataboutery.

Labour are pretty shite too - don't get me wrong. I'm not some dribbling simpleton who can't appreciate that a deep loathing for Tories does not equate with wanting to suck off the Labour front bench. No matter how they identify.

But pragmatism and the logic of "if you want to get there, you wouldn't start from here" means that the best thing for the UK at the moment is to remove the Tories from power as soon as practically, peacefully and definitely as possible.

As a much missed poster on the Brexit forum used to say: when your hair is on fire your first priority is to put it out. You can worry about the colour scheme for the guest bedroom later.

Who do they have that'd put them in non-demolished territory? Genuine question. I can't think of anyone. They seem out of options.

Penny, fucking TWAW, Mordaunt. She is popular amongst the party membership. She hasn't been responsible for much, so hasn't broken any promises. She wasn't named in Partygate. Her profile has been raised by the Coronation and the parliamentary vote to suspend Boris Johnson. She does good PMQs. She is seen as a stable, traditional Conservative.

She's also unlikely to be re-elected if some of the more drastic polling is correct.

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/10/2023 17:28

Jesus Christ himself couldn't get the Tories a victory in next the GE. They'll struggle to get enough seats to form the Opposition. And we have another year or so of more broken promises, more votes, more from the Covid inquiry, more small boats, more scandals etc to come before the election.

If they want her, they'll give her a safe constituency.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/10/2023 17:36

If Penny's recent speech is anything to go by, she won't be inspiring anybody.

Crikeyalmighty · 07/10/2023 17:43

@SerendipityJane Yep I agree- I for instance don't care for 3 or 4 of the labour MPs but given that I struggle to find more than about 5 Tory MOs who I can honestly say 'I like' - then it's a no brainier for me. I actually myself vote Lib Dem as I live in a constituency where that makes total sense and we have a Lib Dem MP

If that is repeated across the country, it raises the chances of a hung parliament. Or would have in times gone by.

My feeling is FPTP tends to deliver no majority when there is a massive vote against one party, but no corresponding vote for another.

Or - as I vividly remember a teacher putting it in the 70s - the electorate work around FPTP to get a consensus from deeply unpleasant choices.

The fall out from HS2 is only starting. I hadn't been aware of how much foreign money had already been put into it. That's the reputation Sunak has abroad now. Even lower than at home.

£350million for the NHS.
