Rishi has absolutely lost it, hasn't he?

What with his random shite this week about scrapping a non-existent meat tax and an imaginary 7 bins, actually scrapping his own home insulation workforce that was only set up a few months ago, scrapping any useful bits of HS2 and now scrapping A-levels (which is so far removed from what is actually possible in schools right now that it's not even funny), what the fuck is he on?

He's just flailing around madly scrapping everything in case someone, somewhere might vote Tory over it.

And he was supposed to be the sensible replacement to Liz Truss.

Funny how your are holding me accountable for the actions of the Dutch government

I wasn't holding you accountable for the actions of the Dutch government at all - I was making an observation relevant to your post.

I asked about why it was necessary for a 56year old man to have a birthday party, indoors, illegal, that he had banned millions of children from having?

No you didn't - you've added some extra words to your question.

Actually I do live in the U.K. and I am British. But do you see that this reductive approach about who is allowed a say is particularly Tory?

My comments were not reductive or particularly Tory - it's a fact that DuncinToffee doesn't have a vote in UK general elections. The same would be true if I lived in the Netherlands - I wouldn't be allowed to vote in general elections over there.

I added some extra words for clarity, for those posters who were struggling to understand that I was asking why a 56year old needed a birthday party indoors against the law, when millions of children were not allowed to do the same?

Does anyone know why some people are still insisting that what Boris didn't wasnt a problem?

In what way is the Dutch government relevant to the Conservative government under Sunak redacting documents regarding the costs of the Bibbi Stockholm?

Pretty obvious from my earlier posts - the Bibby Stockholm was previously used by the Dutch government to house asylum seekers in the Netherlands and my BBC link was regarding a passenger ferry being used by the Dutch government to house asylum seekers earlier this year. The BBC reported in the article;

The Dutch government refuses to say how much it costs, but it's understood to be millions of euros every day.

The article goes on to say that Home Office officials from the UK visited the Netherlands to see the set-up over there.

I don't think you realised that children were allowed birthday parties outside during that week - you thought they were banned altogether.

In answer to your question - Boris Johnson was not aware that the gathering had been planned. I've just checked Sue Gray's report;

The Prime Minister was not aware of this event in advance and it did not form part of his official diary for the day. He returned from an external visit to No 10 Downing Street at approximately 14.20 and was taken into the Cabinet Room...

What difference does it make if it was a surprise birthday party, that doesnt change the law?

It makes a difference to me.
I wouldn't call it a birthday party either - The event lasted between 14.25 and 14.45 - Starmer's boozy curry would have lasted longer than 20 minutes.

If it was acceptable to have 20 minute surprise birthday parties at that time, why didn't the Prime Minister announce it in one of his press conferences?

I may have missed the relevance of this to the current discussion?

Does it help in anyway to explain why Sunak is so completely hopeless?

verdantverdure · 11/10/2023 05:09

To be frank Sunak loses it every time someone asks him a vaguely challenging question, doesn't he?

The man's not fit to do the job.

Neither was Liz Truss.

Neither was Boris Johnson.

We might have to stop letting Tory party members choose our Prime Minister guys.

They're rubbish at it.

In his speech yesterday, Keir Starmer claimed he came from a working class background.

Starmer was asked to define what he meant by 'working class' on LBC this morning - his answer was a car-crash. He flustered and said he meant people who go out to work every day to earn a living are working class. The LBC presenter pointed out that middle class people go out to work to earn a living as well. Cue more flustering from Starmer.

DuncinToffee · 11/10/2023 10:15

Guess you wouldn't say Sunak was flustered here then?

https://x.com/g_gosden/status/1711355703946830206?s=20

Why should we vote Conservative and, more importantly, with the mess left by your predecessor, why should we vote for you?'

The audience are laughing at Sunak.

Clavinova · 11/10/2023 10:34

DuncinToffee
Guess you wouldn't say Sunak was flustered here then?

Flustering is the least of Starmer's worries from the interview.
Starmer has desperately tried to define his background as 'working class' - now it would appear he thinks everyone who works for a living is working class.

Fightyouforthatpie · 11/10/2023 10:42

Clav why are you obsessed with trying to discredit Starmer's claim to be working class? There's no hard and fast definition of class so you can never disprove his claim - and even if you could, what is the point?
Is it just part of a continuing campaign to gainsay anything he says?
It's a bit sad really, isn't it?

I notice not many detractors have anything to say about actual policies - they are either busy obsessing about what school Starmer went to, or busy making up policies that Labour doesn't support to oppose.

DuncinToffee · 11/10/2023 10:44

Clav seems to be rather flustered by Starmer Grin

No - it's rather enjoyable actually Wink

noblegiraffe · 11/10/2023 10:59

I think that perhaps because people were (rightly) disgusted by Boris Johnson's despicable behaviour in office Clav thinks that if she can make out that Starmer is just as bad as Johnson, then people won't vote Labour.

Unfortunately for Clav, Starmer is rather boring and MOR and so people just won't buy it. Reminding people that Starmer had a beer with his curry is more likely to enhance his reputation than ruin it.

I don't know why you keep going on about Boris Johnson op - you started a thread about Rishi Sunak. Unless Boris Johnson rises up like a phoenix from the ashes then the contest is between Starmer and Sunak.

I've reminded you that Starmer told a catalogue of lies about his evening in Durham whether he was fined or not.

noblegiraffe · 11/10/2023 11:24

I mentioned Boris Johnson, Clav, because your obsession with Keir Starmer's curry and beer, which you brought up recently on this thread started when Boris Johnson was fined for a birthday party, which you have also discussed on this thread.

You cannot stand that the fine and outrage at Boris's behaviour doesn't transfer to Starmer.

Sunak, seeing as this thread is about him, was also fined for the party, but there's far less outrage about him being fined because, like Starmer, Sunak is also fairly boring. The outrage about Sunak is generally around him being an exceptionally wealthy person out to further line the pockets of himself and his family.

Hence the attempts to frame Starmer as also being from a well-off background.

But these attempts to transfer issues with Johnson and Sunak onto Starmer don't work because Starmer is neither a catastrophic rule-breaker like Johnson, nor hugely wealthy out-of touch with real people can't even use a bank card like Sunak.
