Dogs slobbering on products in shops

I know I'm not being unreasonable! But surely some think I am as they allow their dogs to do this.

Took DD(7) shopping today, trip was really spoiled by a few dogs.

Lush. Someone brought their large dog in, this dog was head height to the lower shelves, and had its snout in several of the products. I was about to complain to the staff, but several staff went over and started petting the dog, clearly they were team dog. I don't want my clean bath products with added dog slobber, nor do I want them handled by someone who has just been touching dogs. I will email lush to tell them, but I am posting to please ask dog people to resist taking your dogs into stores where they are going to have their noses in the products.

Next was at the little pop up market. Another dog, in owner's arms, sneezed on the wares (hand-knitted toys). Obviously sneezing happens, but come on, that's just gross.

Third, today, mid-to-large sized dog, cocked his leg on someone's stall. Owner wasn't even watching. Stall -holder has to pack up her table, with dog piss on the table leg. I did tell the owner, of the stall, she was really pissed off, and lamented that it has happened before, but because she's positioned in the outdoor market area, she has no control over people bringing their dogs right up to her stall.

Fourth. Woman had her dog on a long leash. Elderly chap tripped over the leash. Luckily he didn't land on the ground, it was busy so he just half -fell on someone as he stumbled, but he was shaken, and the person he landed on was hurt too. Dread to think how the old man would be doing had he completely fallen on the ground.

Fifth, there was a dog shit in the middle of the outdoor market.

This is all in one day. We were only out for about three hours.

Please please stop bringing dogs everywhere. And if you absolutely must, please watch them vigilantly so that the rest of us aren't impacted by them.

Yanbu - dogs should stay at home, or go to the park. They should not be in the shops.

Yabu. Dogs are still great, better than humans, and comparable to kids.

And you too, always on them 🐶😁

Edited

Yes. But I don’t imply I am bored of them. I enjoy them. Enjoy chatting with like-minded people. I don’t moan about there being another dog thread.

What’s weird is posters who get upset about them or claim boredom, yet they come to read and post on threads that they apparently dislike!

sunglassesonthetable · 23/09/2023 21:14

really could do without being approached by someone’s slobbery mutt while I’m enjoying a meal out. I’ve left my own slobbery mutt at home. He’s shown zero interest in shopping in John Lewis or grabbing brunch because he’s an animal.

🤣🤣🤣

shopping in John Lewis or grabbing brunch...

Why on earth are you bringing your dog to a restaurant. Completely bizarre on your part.

Agree. While those kids seem like nasty little brats (just like many I come across these days, sadly), you shouldn't be putting your dog in that position.

Dogs are animals. There is no way you can 100% predict how they will behave when provoked. If your dog had bitten the child in retaliation it would have been your fault and rightly so.

I come from a family that has always had many dogs. I was taught at a very young age that if I teased or provoked them I could expect to be bitten and that it was my fault. But those were our family dogs and those were the rules about being around them.

Those kids were wrong to hurt your dog like that and will probably turn out to be serial killers or something, but you were wrong to have him there and not expect something like this.

ElizaWinter · 23/09/2023 21:15

There's definitely an increase in both dogs and people taking them everywhere with them, and treating them like they're children.

I love animals but l'm falling out of love with dogs and I wasn't sure why. I think it's because they are just literally everywhere.

i was debating for weather its possible for better restrictions on the handling of products from dogs and children to prevent germs, i wasent advocating children being left unsupervised,

Sounded like you were asking why it was an unfair comparison.

@Moonwatcher1234

that too, as unsupervised in a shop both spread germs, that was how i originally begin my comments and where i intended the debate to focus,

Well back to square one, my previous comments stand.

It's an silly/unfair comparison.

Why on earth are people comparing dogs to children?

Because the kind of arsehole dog owner who thinks it is cute when their dog pisses on produce in a market, is outraged that society makes provision for children and not for their ickle fur-baby.

See also the dog owner on a thread yesterday complaining that children were interfering with their dog agility training. Which they were doing in a children’s playground, on the play equipment.

Tough, guide dogs are allowed in all restaurants, regardless of whether you think they're "disgusting".

There is really no valid comparison between highly trained guide dogs and the average family pet. It's like comparing apples with oranges.

I too love animals which is why I hate dogs
They are a menace to wildlife.
True animal lovers would never have them as pets.

Saschka · 23/09/2023 21:27

A lot of owners don't bother with worming treatments or vaccinations. I read a report last week stating many owners are now anti-vaxxers for their pets, some believing it causes autism in their dogs.

Doggy autism??

Those owners are surely too stupid to look after any creature more complex than a headlouse.

Kids and assistance dogs - the two favourite deflections of the typical dog 'lover'.

Let's just assume we are fine with assistance dogs - ok? Can you hold that thought or is it too deep for you?

Now, what's your response to the spreading of those dangerous germs around human food?

Well for a start, rabies is not extant in the UK. So your list starts off rather badly.

Secondly, could you explain why you think guide dogs are magically excluded from the others? Bearing in mind there aren't vaccines for things like norovirus and humans are a much larger vector for norovirus than dogs.

And given that guide dogs are not excluded from e.g. norovirus, then they are just as disgusting as any other dog in your eyes. No?

Buildingthefuture · 23/09/2023 21:35

@Moonwatcher1234 can you read? If so, read my previous response to that question. It’s really rather relevant.

A few years ago we stayed in Craig y nos castle and we knew it was dog friendly, but the room stunk of wet dog and there were dog hairs in the bath. Also when we went for a drink in the bar there were people sat with their dogs who were barking at other dogs that went past all the time. We will do our research next time Grin

HelpIcantfindaname · 23/09/2023 21:45

I've had dogs most of my life. The only shop I take them in is Pets at Home, & then only if they need to be there...like buying a harness, or today we went to help socialise the puppy.

In other shops it wouldn't be kind to my dogs, or other people to take them.inside. I was in Superdrug today with my daughter, hubby waited outside with the puppy. A friend said later I could have taken him in to Superdrug as dogs are allowed in there now...why would I want to take him in?

Most of the time we will sit outside a pub/cafe with the dogs. But there's been lots of times when I've sat out in the rain while the rest of the family ate indoors because the weather was bad. This usually only happens on holiday. If those places had been dog friendly I would have taken the dogs inside. On holiday I don't have the option of leaving the dogs at home. Very occasionally we may eat in a pub with the dogs on a day out, but usually we'd have a picnic.

However, my mam now lives in a care home. She loves to see my dogs so I sometimes take her out with them for a very short walk as it's all she can manage. I do now look for places we can go for a cuppa that are dog friendly, as it needs to be really good weather for mam to sit outside. I googled dog friendly cafes & was surprised so many of them were in the town centre. I'd expected them to be near parks, beaches, country walks.

Even as a dog lover I don't think dogs need to be absolutely everywhere.

Letitgonowgr · 23/09/2023 21:48

You clearly hate dogs and are a drama queen.

Fab973 · 23/09/2023 21:52

Ridiculous comment. I would gladly taken a day or two of norovirous if it enabled a disabled person to have some independence and be able to live their life, as would most other people. BS argument

24HoursFromTulseHillEstate · 23/09/2023 21:53

I have often decided not to buy something I liked from a shop where a cat or dog is curled up on or amongst the goods.

paintityellow · 23/09/2023 22:00

The denial of dog owners on threads like these is interesting. Instead of taking on board comments, or realising that the prevalence of these threads and the huge support for the OPs means that there is a majority of people out there who don't want dogs everywhere, they decide to berate these people as 'dog haters' and tut tut at 'yet another thread' on the issue.
