Dogs slobbering on products in shops

I know I'm not being unreasonable! But surely some think I am as they allow their dogs to do this.

Took DD(7) shopping today, trip was really spoiled by a few dogs.

Lush. Someone brought their large dog in, this dog was head height to the lower shelves, and had its snout in several of the products. I was about to complain to the staff, but several staff went over and started petting the dog, clearly they were team dog. I don't want my clean bath products with added dog slobber, nor do I want them handled by someone who has just been touching dogs. I will email lush to tell them, but I am posting to please ask dog people to resist taking your dogs into stores where they are going to have their noses in the products.

Next was at the little pop up market. Another dog, in owner's arms, sneezed on the wares (hand-knitted toys). Obviously sneezing happens, but come on, that's just gross.

Third, today, mid-to-large sized dog, cocked his leg on someone's stall. Owner wasn't even watching. Stall -holder has to pack up her table, with dog piss on the table leg. I did tell the owner, of the stall, she was really pissed off, and lamented that it has happened before, but because she's positioned in the outdoor market area, she has no control over people bringing their dogs right up to her stall.

Fourth. Woman had her dog on a long leash. Elderly chap tripped over the leash. Luckily he didn't land on the ground, it was busy so he just half -fell on someone as he stumbled, but he was shaken, and the person he landed on was hurt too. Dread to think how the old man would be doing had he completely fallen on the ground.

Fifth, there was a dog shit in the middle of the outdoor market.

This is all in one day. We were only out for about three hours.

Please please stop bringing dogs everywhere. And if you absolutely must, please watch them vigilantly so that the rest of us aren't impacted by them.

Yanbu - dogs should stay at home, or go to the park. They should not be in the shops.

Yabu. Dogs are still great, better than humans, and comparable to kids.

In Waitrose today, heard a member of staff say "Oh he's lovely! How old is he?" I was curious to see this lovely boy. The woman had a dog sitting in the trolley with her shopping. I didn't have time to say something at the time, but I will certainly make a complaint tomorrow

Lots of John Lewis stores have Waitrose food halls in them so it must be easy for a dog to go in via JL and end up in Waitrose. Not saying this happened here and haven’t seen dogs in my local Waitrose yet (that I can recall).

😂

Why are you laughing? It’s rude. MN at its finest here.

This dogs around human food and products needs to stop. It's a public health issue. I personally am going to boycott all food serving places that allow dogs indoors:

''Viral infections such as rabies and norovirus and bacterial infections including Pasteurella, Salmonella, Brucella, Yersinia enterocolitica, Campylobacter, Capnocytophaga, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Coxiella burnetii, Leptospira, Staphylococcus intermedius and Methicillin resistance staphylococcus aureus are the most common viral and bacterial zoonotic infections transmitted to humans by dogs. I personally can't stand children with dirty, sticky fingers touching things in shops. Each to their own, I suppose.

Difference is kids can't be left home alone without their parents if they need to visit the shops, though they should be supervised and kept off touching everything.
Dogs can and should be left home alone for shopping. There is no reason for a dog to need to go shopping with its owner unless it's a guide dog.

YANBU. Only service dogs should be allowed in shops and markets.

that i do agree with, as much as i love dogs and cats,

rhino12345 · 23/09/2023 20:41

I went for brunch at a colleagues' house the other day and her dog was slobbering all over food which was on a low coffee table.

Me and my other colleague were darting eyes to each other and we asked if we could perhaps put the dog in the other room whilst the food was out, at which point the other woman goes "are you joking? He's a member of the family!"

We won't be going there again...

Seriously please don't start comparing kids and dogs , it's a black hole of negativity.

There IS no comparison. Despite the fact they both get hated on in MN.

One are small humans and the other are, well, dogs.

Relieved to see all in agreement. I just feel so disappointed in society going this way, and it's getting worse. Hate that my kids are growing up with this level of entitlement from dog owners. I do not dislike dogs. I dislike the fact that they are absolutely everywhere, and it's unhygienic. Food places especially.

Eh we are not all in agreement at all. Whilst I do think there should limits, an OUTDOOR MARKET is one place dogs would obviously welcome. Do you scream at foxes and shake your fists at bird poop too?

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/09/2023 20:44

PS 🤣

I do agree dogs shouldn't be in shops.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 23/09/2023 20:45

A friend of a friend got a rescue dog 4-5 years before lockdown. This friend doesn’t work at the moment, she chooses not to sue to a recent inheritance.

Since getting the dog it goes everywhere with her and her live out DP. It hurt its leg and now has a dog pushchair.

I’m not that bothered about this as she’s not a close friend and I didn’t see her that much beforehand anyway. But she’s alienated someone she’d have classed as a close friend, due to the taking of the dog everywhere, including to places in extreme heat. If you dare to criticise her or say Fido isn’t allowed there she gets very put out and says he can’t possibly be left at home!

Oh catch yourself on! You sound like a total prat and your argument is ridiculous. If you had seen me in Tesco today my 2.5 year old missed their nap because of 4 year olds birthday party. All three of them in the trolley with clean hands but have a cold. Toddler screamed at
one point because he was exhausted and frustrated. I am a competent Mum just trying to do her weekly shop with three children. Those children will grow up with good morals, values and could become the doctors and nurses who one day save your life. They are worth investing in and they 100% have every bit as much right to take up space in society as you do. In the same way I wouldn’t expect an adult in pain to be quite because it’s preferable for me, why do people
not get that young children need to learn how to manage their emotions? Dogs are dogs. They will never become anything else so no they do not get to be treated as people. And I detest your grumpy condesceing tone. What do you want parents to do? Lock Their children in cages until they reach adulthood and let them out then? You are being utterly unreasonable and if my child screams the next time we are in Tesco I hope you are close by and say something to my face because I will tear you a new one

👏

anomaly2 · 23/09/2023 20:46

@AndStand Why did you take your dog into a restaurant?
Duh, presumably because the restaurant welcomes dogs. It's not hard to figure that one out

sunglassesonthetable · 23/09/2023 20:47

I think we all get that.

But we all know it's a road to nowhere and also an unfair comparison.

Ohcrappydoo · 23/09/2023 18:17

We went to a cafe recently that allowed dogs. It was filthy. The people next to us allowed their dogs to lick stuff off the table. They left and a new family came in - table was cleared but not wiped.

We told them and they decided to go elsewhere.

I absolutely love dogs! Love them and wish I had my own but I still find the fact they're everywhere very annoying (and unhygienic!)

Someone left their paddleboard on the shore a few weeks ago, they were in and out of the sea fairly often and a dog did a poo on it 🙈

If the staff didn't wipe the tables then it was a terrible restaurant and it's a good thing you know that now and won't go back. Nothing to do with the dog. I don't want anything from previous people left on a table.

foxes, and birds dont usually piss on the table leg

Pieceofpurplesky · 23/09/2023 20:50

They have had to put a sign in my local food market asking people to not let their dogs sit at or eat off the tables. Why would anyone do that?

Out for a walk, visit a pub with you dog - fine. Put your dog in the car to take to the pub - why?

but why is it an unfair comparisons, both spread germs ? dogs sniffing and dribbling over products and sneezing etc, same with kids that are not under the control of the parents, with the product's etc

anomaly2 · 23/09/2023 20:51

@NoodlesAndRice Can I ask why owners like you do this? Instead of saying yuk those dogs’ owners should have controlled them, you bring up the actions of children? It’s odd but your type do it a lot. Do explain.

It’s an unintelligent and pointless ‘defence’.

Your type??? Good grief and you are trying to talk about a lack of intelligence? Go away and learn some manners Petal
