100% this and beautifully put.

People are really telling on themselves. Imagine chucking away your integrity and decency to defend disgusting millionaire rapist Brand.

Actually, it’s terribly put. The presumption of innocence of a crime until proven guilty lies at the heart of society.

if you get accused of a crime would you be ok being sacked from your job before the case hit court, maybe your kids would be taken off you. All your friends deserted you.

it’s a very dangerous world where accusations are seen as legitimately destroying lives.

if you are accused of a crime, the only place where you should be deemed guilty or not is in a court. Not in the media.

Just because someone is objectionable, just because the media have whipped up a frenzy, just because some other celebrities are saying he’s a creep doesn’t make him guilty of a crime. - the people who come out and say he is an ok guy have just the same right to be heard.

We have many examples of situations throughout history where people thought it was fine to think someone guilty until proven innocent (clue it never ended well).

we cab say what our impressions of a person are (in my case I always thought brand came across as a horrible slimey man who never even made me smile). But crimes have a specific definition, the criminal justice system demands a certain level of proof. For a person to be found guilty. This is there to safeguard the innocent, it is vital to our society this is maintained. Can you imagine if someone accused their political rival of a crime, paid dime people to back up their claims. All of a sudden the very notion of democracy is undermined. Think through the consequences of what is being said here.

if the only place for the concept of innocent until proven guilty is in a court, the flip side of that is that court is the only place to decide if someone is guilty of a crime.

I don't like RB.

I don't find him funny.

If the police believe he should be tried, get him in court so he can defence himself properly.

I again point out that he has gone up against the government. Look what they did to greenpeace for protesting at Rushi's house! It is not coincidental that going up against this government and these accusations are chiming nicely ref timing.

Keep an open mind about why it's all come out now.

That's it! Charles Manson is exactly who he reminds me of with those soulless black eyes, but I couldn't place his name.

Some people, who walk this planet do not have human souls. I mean that literally, not metaphorically.

ChillysWaterBottle · 23/09/2023 05:53

@Maatandosiris 'actually' it was beautifully put, like I said, although nothing in your superficial and condescending essay suggests you understood it at all.

Er the government has much more credible, powerful and influential critics than a crackpot ex-presenter ranting on YouTube to an audience of mostly dim, credulous Americans, incels and bots. He did voice work for Minions 2 last year lol. No one in govt is scared of him or probably thought about him for years.

My view is that the comments from people supporting him on Instagram are clearly written by those who are either a) vulnerable b)uneducated or c) people who believe in conspiracy theories.

He is just a gaslighting rapist.

Nail on the head.

It's scary how many of them there are.

I *Do think it’s odd though how they’ve been able to shut his channel down

What channel have they shut down?

hollyblueivy · 23/09/2023 06:12

Upcyclerookie · 22/09/2023 23:22

Why is he getting everyone to go on Rumble? I checked and his YouTube channel is still there

I think what's happened is that he isn't banned from posting on these platforms, but any income stream he was benefitting from have been stopped. Therefore he is asking people to go to another platform where he is able to receive financial support.

Can anyone confirm this or provide any other information?

hollyblueivy · 23/09/2023 06:17

anotherside · 23/09/2023 00:18

@Upcyclerookie

Why is he getting everyone to go on Rumble? I checked and his YouTube channel is still there

Because YouTube has demonetised him based on the accusations. Banning him outright isn’t a good look when the accusations are as yet unproven, but by demonetising him they can be seen as taking a stance of some sort or other … (as opposed to YouTube displaying the courage of their convictions one way or the other ie, booting him off the platform completely based on the accusations, or defending his right to - for the time being - profit from content creation on the platform like any other user).

Generally speaking, demonetising content gets the necessary people to shut up (be they “friendly” govenements, pressure groups etc) while still making themselves appear an “open” platform with a diversity of people/opinion.

So it if you tube making the decision to de monetise him or if there a great power and influence at play? If so, who and how?

Just wondering when people talk about THEY - who are they?

What do you call a man trapped in a paper bag? 🤣

What do you call a man with a load of dead leaves on his head?

or

what do you call a ridiculous little man who takes himself far too seriously and doesn't realise people just couldn't give a shit what he rambles on about?

GrammarTeacher · 23/09/2023 06:26

Dee9409 · 22/09/2023 23:41

Look he is innocent until a court of law finds him guilty. His face, his name is all over the internet. This is totally unfair, he hasn’t been convicted or found guilty. People accusing a man should also be named just as he is being named. He has NOT BEEN FOUND GUILTY

This is a misunderstanding. It's in a court of law you're innocent until proven guilty. We make up our minds with the evidence presented to us ALL the time. Having read the transcripts of the recording of that footballer I don't need it to go to trial to know that he is guilty. Cases don't even get to court these days unless there's a very strong chance of being found guilty.
The burden of proof also matters. If we look to the US, OJ Simpson was found guilty and not guilty of the same crime due to the different levels of reasonable doubt in criminal/civil cases.
Sexual Assault cases are particularly difficult in the light of criminal proof. Our style of trial (which has its advantages) seems ill suited to sexual assault cases (and technically detailed white collar crimes as well that really require the jury to have detailed knowledge).

Probably! Grin I am just so sick of fucking hearing about this twat Russell Brand! Angry I know I know I don't have to open the thread. Wish I could block certain words on here like you can on twitter. I would block Russell Brand and BREXIT! Grin

I don’t follow him on any platform but did just pop over to insta to have a look. Although there were a lot of posts of people calling him out, there were also a worrying number of people supporting him.

Why is it worrying, none of us know what he has or hasn't done.

Im not a fan of his but boy are the media able to take someone down at speed. I find that infinitely more worrying.

WarriorN · 23/09/2023 06:36

Some people, who walk this planet do not have human souls. I mean that literally, not metaphorically.

How they treat animals is often a good litmus test.

Another thing he bragged about in his booky wook.

YouTube made the decision. It's not a good business look to allow someone to profit from these allegations but they also try and prioritise free speech to a certain extent and they are legally allegations so the videos and channel stands.

LikeARainstorm · 23/09/2023 06:37

MissTrip82 · 23/09/2023 00:27

The maxim of the presumption of innocence applies in one place, and in one place only: a criminal court. It applies there because it is the forum in which the state can apply its maximum sanction. It applies literally nowhere else, nowhere, anywhere, ever. People are perfectly free to decide on someone's guilt in any other forum. People are even free to say it publicly; the only constraints are the laws of defamation or contempt if a trial is in progress.

Russell Brand is in turn free to sue the multiple media outlets whose investigative journalism over a period of years has led to this. In making this public, those media outlets will have had lengthy in-depth legal advice on the likelihood that such an action would succeed.

The most useful thing about the presumption of innocence is the people who come out to defend it and do so solely when the allegations involve crimes against women and children. Identifying the rape apologists amongst us is indeed helpful.

What's unfair is the sickeningly low rate of prosecution of rapists, and the even lower rate of conviction. What's unfair is that a man accused of rape is many many many more times likely to have done it and simply walked away without any criminal sanction than it is likely that the woman (in this case multiple women) involved has lied. What's unfair is that rape apologists care only for the damage done to the perpetrator, and not for the life-changing damage doe to the victims.

Brilliant post @MissTrip82

Im not a fan of his but boy are the media able to take someone down at speed. I find that infinitely more worrying.

We know exactly what he's done on air and on film. And that's a joint issue with the bbc and him. Which is sexual assault and bragging about it. On that one situation, which he's not acknowledged or apologetic about, he's guilty.

This has not been at speed. This has been years in the making, very carefully, as he's previously threatened everyone with litigation.

One of the first tweets I saw before the news broke was Suzanne Moore's about how he threatened her with lawyers. "Just saying."

Ladybug14 · 23/09/2023 06:42

He's got a number of brain cells which are squewy round the edges , that's for sure. Very very strange man

But he's scared now. Extremely scared. Fear is coming off him in waves

Agree.

I couldn't believe a friend of mine when she said she felt sorry for him (!!) and said women threw themselves at him so it's their fault.

Didn't realise she was so ignorant, but then she does believe a few conspiracy theories.

Cheetah7 · 23/09/2023 06:53

Alleged rapist

Indeed. Lessons haven’t be learned and this is another trial by media. He’s not my favourite person, and maybe he has done these things, but let the courts decide if he has a case to answer.

Well the chair of the Department for Culture, Media and Sports, the MP Caroline Dinenage has been busy writing to various platforms about RB. A clear example of government overreach and influence as her letters refer to "victims" which is prejudicial.
