My question isn't emotive at all. It's a test of belief. Either his defenders genuinely believe he is innocent and in the misunderstood, misquoted maxim 'innocent until proven guilty' so there would be no problem whatsoever with anyone - or they don't, in which case they wouldn't leave their daughter with him because common sense applies. Any waffling about court cases is irrelevant.

Can you not actually understand the distinction here? When we are talking whether someone is guilty of a crime talking about court cases is not “waffling”

Do you not believe in the right to a fair trial? Do you support dictatorships where people are punished outside of a regulated and transparent justice system? Because if that’s your bag maybe North Korea would suit??

Wanting to maintain a system where safeguards are in place around justice has nothing to do with supporting or not of an individual. It’s about knowing what the best position is for a stable society.

There seems to be a lot of people who are happy to allow their dislike of an individual to override one of the fundamental pillars of our society

Innocent till proven guilty...

Saville is therefore innocent.

Yep. And Fred West.

heathspeedwell · 23/09/2023 09:22

"Fundamental pillars of our society"?

Do me a favour. Fewer than one in a hundred rapes lead to a guilty verdict.

Where is the fair trial for rape victims?

More gaslighting mantras. “The fundamental pillars of our society” are broken. Rape has been decriminalised in this country.

All a bit cult leader.

Agree. He gives off major Charles Manson vibes.

ClarkWGreaseball · 23/09/2023 09:23

@Janieforever it's a specific and very famous line ..

bombastix · 23/09/2023 09:24

Tbh I don't know how anyone expects to know how many women have made a report to the police.

People act like they are entitled to know. They aren't. He will be in time.

If it's in the press from the police officially then okay. The rest is noise. There could be many complaints. We have no idea.

SoRainbowRhythms · 23/09/2023 09:24

Some comedian said "he looks like a child has been asked to draw a bad man" 😂

I thought you were all comparing him to Charles Bronson. I've just twigged!! 🤯😞

The allegation are allegations - they are not proven, therefore I believe that RB should like other who have had allegations made against them be treated as innocent. The same in my view should be applied to all of the other people in the media where allegations have been made but there has been no criminal action or where they have been found innocent.

That said I have never like the humour of RB in the past as I have found it quite vulgar, however, just because I found his humour quite base and used the off button does not mean he has committed a crime. To be honest I have not listened to his TV/radio work but do think what I have heard over the last few days to be be in extremely poor taste - but that is not a crime. I have listened to a few of his broadcasts re media/pandemic/war etc on Youtube in the past and have found them interesting, I don't agree with everything he says but again that does mean I thin he guilty of a crime.

My point is that trial by media should not be happening in our society - it is not good for society as a whole or individuals. Anyone could end up in this situation potentially, and for that reason I think we as a society and individuals should be very careful in how we treat any allegations.

As much as the DM is sometimes a nightmare...

Headline:

Russell Brand says he has faced an 'extraordinary and distressing week' in new conspiracy-filled video but fails to address rape and sexual assault allegations - as he begs fans to 'support' him on his $60 Rumble channel

It's all about him.

He's "distressed" - what about the woman that he bragged about sexually assaulting on radio 2? Who assumed that part had been edited out of the show as no one contacted her about it, only to find last week it was aired?

But he wants as many $60 as he can get for his statement ta very much.

I can’t work out if you’re deliberately being stupid. It’s a good move to not reference the allegations. And why on Earth would he reference victims’ distress if his position is that there are no victims? That would be parallel to admission of guilt. Use your brain.

Janieforever · 23/09/2023 09:30

Whatafustercluck · 23/09/2023 08:59

It was a Monty Python reference.

Then you read the room wrong, this man is accused of being one of the worst serial rapists and sexual abusers of our time. The severity and magnitude of the crimes he’s accused of committing is heinous. Minimising the accusations in this manner isn’t funny.

itsmyp4rty · 23/09/2023 09:30

Narcissist surely? Always talks like he thinks he's some kind of supremely intelligent messiah using 3000 words to say what could have been said in 3. It always just all sounded like drivel to me, I didn't get why anyone was ever enthralled by all his claptrap. No doubt he'll try to obfuscate the jury with his word salad nonsense if he does ever stand trial.

SatsumaNightmare · 23/09/2023 09:31

AnImaginaryCat · 23/09/2023 07:50

This is true. Least the bit about people who believe in conspiracy theories are tend to be educated.

Though I'd argue at the 'well educated' part and the bit about doing their own research. Because they tend to be educated but not intelligent. (I'm sure they think they are.) Also not well enough educated to think.

Research tends to be in a one-sided field, and often by listening to some leader in whatever the field is and not questioning what they say.

I can't recall where I read it, but I did read RB being described something along the lines of someone the unintelligent think of as a philosopher. He talked quickly and used 'big words', so people thought was clever. But if you actually listened to it, he was chatting shit.

He's not been on my radar for years, but that's still happening it seems, all be it mostly on social media now.

This is usually said by the left about anyone they disagree with. It’s a way to try and discredit the person but also make the person who is either listening or agreeing with them feel bad about themselves. It’s a silly game.

SatsumaNightmare · 23/09/2023 09:32

GCAcademic · 23/09/2023 07:51

Rape has been effectively decriminalised in this country. Repeated mantras of "innocent until proven guilty" and "it needs to be tried in a court of law" amount to little more than gaslighting of victims of sexual assault.

The answer to a broken system is not trial by media, it’s fixing the broken system. Why are people not expending energy into calling for that rather than a witch hunt?

RausageSoul · 23/09/2023 09:34

That insta post was helpful for me to check the 'likes' from people I follow. Disappointing, but good to know.

Josell12345 · 23/09/2023 09:43

To the muppet who said he was a gaslighting rapist- what a ridiculous comment . Hes neither been charged or found guilty.

For me its the timing. Why wasnt this brought out at the time. Just hold onto it all until hes hovering right over the target, calling out msm/globalists/usa politics/war for what it is and suddenly its time to silence him!
See this for what it is.

Upcyclerookie · 22/09/2023 23:22

Why is he getting everyone to go on Rumble? I checked and his YouTube channel is still there

Because his youtube channel has been demonetised - so he's not making any money from it, but he can on Rumble.

That's what I find so irritating about the video - he claims he's being censored by the deep state blah blah, but no, he can upload all the videos he wants on yotube he just can't make a profit from it, which seems fair enough.

Incredibly disengenous and just another way of whipping up his fans.

He's not the messiah. He's a very naughty boy.

😅Now go away!!

loulouljh · 23/09/2023 09:47

Whether he is guilty or not of what is alleged we don't know. What has happened, however, is utterly disturbing. This could happen to anyone whose views do not align with the powers. Utterly chilling.

lightpineapple · 23/09/2023 09:50

Im not a fan of his but boy are the media able to take someone down at speed. I find that infinitely more worrying.

He hasn't been "taken down" by the media. He's free to say and post whatever he wants, just certain outlets are deciding that he shouldn't be able to make a profit from it. They're private companies, they can choose to do this.

He's not prevented from saying what he thinks or getting his message out to his fans and I find all the comparisons to countries where freedom of speech genuinely is restricted pretty gross.

Tbh I don't think anyone should be able to make a career out of pushing conspiracy theories because it's caused and is causing endless harm (including genuine risk to life), but I have no idea how this can be regulated.

overtaxedunderling · 23/09/2023 09:51

hollyblueivy · 23/09/2023 06:09

What channel have they shut down?

This is the letter that was sent to Rumble to stop the income of someone who has yet to be charged of an offence.

While I have no idea if a jury would give credence to a defence lawyer making the case that they have leads and testimony to refute charges, but their client couldn't afford to follow them up due to external pressure to stop his income, I have seen Trump generate vast sums very quickly when claiming to be attacked by the establishment.

It's less than two months since Andrew Malkinson was released after serving an additional ten years for refusing to admit guilt - during which time Greater Manchester Police, the Criminal Complaints Review Commission and the Crown Prosecution Service all knew that the real rapist was free.

The allegations relate to 2006 to 2013, there may well be a case to answer and those women should be heard but in the meantime an innocent woman, two months away from giving birth seems worthy of no sympathy whatsoever.

What "powers"?

Why is it disturbing that the media are able to have the freedom to conduct an investigation if they feel the police/an insitution are not doing their jobs?

Do you not have any concerns regarding the wealth of evidence (multiple streams) behind the claims of sexual assualt? You think it's all made up?

Its5656 · 23/09/2023 09:56

What Powers?!??
Please tell me you don't mean his conspiracy theory powers.

Walkaround · 23/09/2023 10:01

He was and always has been vile. He was not only allowed, but encouraged, to behave like a vile creep in public - quite literally, paid to behave in unacceptable ways that would get anyone else arrested. Anyone who employed him knew they were playing with fire, as he produced more than enough smoke. There is a certain hypocrisy in pretending any of the recent “revelations” are really of any surprise to anybody at all. It does feel like he was used by the mainstream for having certain characteristics it wanted to exploit, and he is now being spat out by the mainstream for the exact same characteristics.

I also do not believe he really understands what “consent” means, tbh - I think he thinks doing as you are told by him is consenting, which is always dangerous when you have a personality as forceful as Russell Brand’s.
