To think this just sums up XL Bully owners?

Look North last night. Peter Levy is interviewing a woman who owns two XL Bullys. Both cropped and docked which she says happened in another country before she got them (yeah, course it did).

Peter asks her “so why do people want these dogs in the first place, what’s the attraction for you?”

She replies “well I wanted dogs that were good with kids and famines and stuff so we got XL Bully’s cos they’re great with kids”

Wtf? If I didn’t know better I’d swear this was a spoof interview. Good with kids and families?? These dogs have been responsible for the most human deaths in dog attacks in the UK in recent years!!! Just last week an 11 year CHILD was attacked by one of these dogs … so when looking for a child friendly dog she bypasses the golden retriever etc and goes for the breed with the biggest track record of killing humans …

He then asked her if she will comply with the muzzle when the laws are changed - she said NO.

Then the cherry on the cake … he asked her “would you leave your child alone with these dogs?” And she said “yes, absolutely. I leave my two year old alone with them all the time whilst I’m busy making dinner etc”

Honestly the interview couldn’t have been any more gobsmacking.

This just sums up XL bully owners doesn’t it? Thick as pig shit with no regard to their own safety or the safety of others.

Me and my husband are owners of a 10 month old XL bully, we are both professionals. I hate the stigma that is attached to these breeds. I agree they are plenty of people that have them for the "status". However, our puppy is exceptionally trained. That saying, would I ever leave him with my children? Absolutely not! I would never leave any breed of dog in a room with my children as it's not worth the risk at all.

Can I ask why, out of all the breeds of dogs, including family friendly ones, small ones who would do barely any harm should your kids be attacked, you chose the XL bully?

Rb65678 · 25/09/2023 21:45

I have always been brought up around large dogs, Staffordshire bull terriers and Cane corsos. We as a family, love larger dogs and it was a collective decision.
Whether a dog is "family friendly" or not, doesn't stop them from attacking! We are responsible owners and ensure that our children and our dog are safe.

MartinChuzzlewit · 25/09/2023 21:47

It doesn’t stop them from attacking but certain breeds ar wear more prone to attacking, and the bigger the dog the worse the damage.

If it was an XL Bully or a Shih Tzu I know what I’d rather take my chances with

Dillane · 26/09/2023 16:15

Why did you chose this breed @Rb65678 ? Genuine question.

TawnyLarue · 26/09/2023 19:09

@Rb65678 what is it you think you’re going to do if your “exceptionally trained” decides it’s going to attack your child though? Isn’t this the point? It doesn’t matter if you supervise it because there is fuck all you can do either way.

Could I ask how you do that? If your dog developed dementia for example, how would you prevent it from killing your children? You've said you and your husband are professionals, what profession are you in that means you also have enough time to care for such a complex puppy?

Comeonbarbiebrianharvey · 26/09/2023 20:22

I've got a tiger, someone gifted it to me as a puppy as they know I'm responsible. I always have it on a lead, I will muzzle it when I have to and I've taught my kids how to behave around it.

Yes it's powerful on the lead and scary to walk past, as it is powerful enough to overpower me and get off the lead if it wanted to, but my tiger isn't like that, I'm educated and I've got a good job, I've trained it so these instincts other tigers have mine definitely doesn't have.

If I want to walk a massive beast, from a breed renowned for attacking and killing people, and my neighbours are frightened, that's their problem they're just completely ignorant.

Why are people now bringing Staffies and cane Corso’s in to the equation? 🤦🏼‍♀️

Why are people now bringing Staffies and cane Corso’s in to the equation? 🤦🏼‍♀️

A couple of reasons really.

Firstly, Staffies and especially Cane Corsos are often part of the breed combination that make up the XL Bully.

Secondly, Staffies do unfortunately have a history of attacks in the UK. There are lots of families who have Staffies that they adore and if the subject ever gets raised, there are lots of impassioned defences with people posting cute photos of their dogs with phrases like "yeah, so vicious lol".

The problem is that Staffies are a breed that was bred for fighting, and for their tenacity in attacks. These stats are a few years out of date now as XL Bullies are much more of a current problem but in 2018, 43% of dog attacks in the UK were carried out by Staffies or Staffy crosses.

Staffies aren't as big or as scary as the XL Bullies and there's not the same issue with lineage - ie/Kimbo - but they have had a substantial number of problems. And like other bull breeds, if they attack, they can cause serious injuries.

I'm not suggesting Staffies should be banned, but turning a blind eye to their bull nature, their genetics and natural tendencies, and the relatively high % of bites is foolish.

Missingmyusername · 26/09/2023 22:52

“Cane Corsos are often part of the breed combination that make up the XL Bully.” They’re really not. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Missingmyusername · 26/09/2023 22:53

“What two dogs make a XL bully?
They are mixed breed bulldogs, typically American pitbull terriers crossed with American, English and Olde English bulldogs.”

oakleaffy · 27/09/2023 00:27

In USA, XL's just get called ''Pit Bulls''... these dogs were ALL family pets who were raised from puppies or got from rescue centres and were assessed as ''Friendly''- they all went and 'flipped' killing or severely injuring women and children mainly.

They just ''went mad'' - they flip. Very red zone, very easy to anger out of nowhere.

Someone said of this programme :

''This is the most valuable expose I've seen on this topic so far, because it shatters a number of myths: These dogs have been identified as pitbulls by their owners (not "wrongly labeled" by law enforcement or the media) .... These dogs were family pets, not "fighting" dogs ... These dogs showed no aggression prior to attacking (and are also docile when shown after the attack) ... These dogs came to their owners as puppies, or with a clean bill of behavioural health from shelters.''

Missingmyusername · 26/09/2023 22:52

“Cane Corsos are often part of the breed combination that make up the XL Bully.” They’re really not. 🤦🏼‍♀️

But they are?

Granted, Cane Corso isn’t listed in every XL Bully list but as you already know, the XL Bully isn’t fully defined and recognised. There are a number of breeds that are often mixed in with the pit bull and bulldog breeds, and the Cane Corso is accepted as one of those that regularly appears.

What is also happening - which won’t help the Cane Corso - is that XL Bully x Cane Corso cross puppies are becoming popular. That connects the Cane Corso and XL Bully even more tightly. These dogs will still have the XL Bully traits.

Like it or not, Cane Corsos are often bred to create the XL Bully - and now they’re being used to create a new cross breed too.

Liverpool Vets don't seem to mind XLs.

Well, that’s just one vet in a whole city!

Liverpool has one of the highest number of XL attacks in the country.

These 5 separate incidents are from the last 3 months alone:

Viszla needs 17 stitches after XL attack in Sefton park (July 2023)

I would never own a pet in the home I couldn't kill with my bare hands if required. That means most breeds of dog are out. It's just dangerous, especially with children.

OneTC · 27/09/2023 09:37

I think the fact they had a rally in support of their lovely friendly dogs but everyone had to leave them at home because it would have been a fucking blood bath tells you everything you need to know

Exactly that.
It would have been absolute carnage.

As it is, an XL Advocate asked a man to put his XL on a lead as it was being aggressive, and the owner beat him up and set his nasty XL onto the advocate.

The black eyes are from the thug owner, the chewed legs from the mutt.

Maybe you'll be lucky and maybe your dog won't snap. But I've heard a dozens of stories like yours - except with owners who were dog trainers - who said the same thing. Until the dog's breeding kicked in and they ripped apart a child.

Why do you even want to risk having an animal around kids and others that has the potential to kill/ disfigure/ maim? This, I do not understand.

Trainer near us is holding an XL bully day where upto 100 XL bully’s will be attending. Aim is to educate people on the breed. As soon as I find out where it is I’ll be warning all family members and friends to avoid the area on that day. Disaster waiting to happen.

Hopefully they'll all rip each other apart and we can all get on with our lives without worry over these hellhounds.

Hopefully it wasn't returned to it's ineffectual owners to get loose yet again.

These things need removing from the streets for everyone's safety.

What other dog type would need tasering?
