To think this just sums up XL Bully owners?

Look North last night. Peter Levy is interviewing a woman who owns two XL Bullys. Both cropped and docked which she says happened in another country before she got them (yeah, course it did).

Peter asks her “so why do people want these dogs in the first place, what’s the attraction for you?”

She replies “well I wanted dogs that were good with kids and famines and stuff so we got XL Bully’s cos they’re great with kids”

Wtf? If I didn’t know better I’d swear this was a spoof interview. Good with kids and families?? These dogs have been responsible for the most human deaths in dog attacks in the UK in recent years!!! Just last week an 11 year CHILD was attacked by one of these dogs … so when looking for a child friendly dog she bypasses the golden retriever etc and goes for the breed with the biggest track record of killing humans …

He then asked her if she will comply with the muzzle when the laws are changed - she said NO.

Then the cherry on the cake … he asked her “would you leave your child alone with these dogs?” And she said “yes, absolutely. I leave my two year old alone with them all the time whilst I’m busy making dinner etc”

Honestly the interview couldn’t have been any more gobsmacking.

This just sums up XL bully owners doesn’t it? Thick as pig shit with no regard to their own safety or the safety of others.

This diagram traces the origins of xl bullies/pits etc.

Not a Labrador to be seen 😄

They probably are all the same though. Why would you want a breed like that? I don’t think nice law abiding citizens want them or own them. If you want a family dog what is wrong with a Labrador or any other breed that is not responsible for attacking/killing humans?

They are all the same.

They are rough chavs.

Missingmyusername · 19/09/2023 19:25

@BabyStopCryin I read the article about that dog- ridiculous amount of inbreeding wasn’t it.

The XL bullies that retail for thousands are elite protection dogs, it’s the training I think you pay for presumably? could be wrong!

Mendingslowly · 19/09/2023 19:26

It's why the ban will do next to nothing IMO. Law abiding good owners with this type of dog will abide by the laws and have taking every measure to raise them right anyway, but they're not the problem in the first place.

People whose dogs are a danger, who haven't been careful and who don't care or aren't of reasonable intelligence, will take no damn notice of it anyway.

Stroopwaffels · 19/09/2023 19:26

I was gifted my XL by some very good friends who had an accidental litter and who refused to let the pups go to anyone who wouldn't train them, love them, and be completely responsible

No such thing as an "accidental litter". Accidental litters happen when irresponsible owners do not get their animals spayed/neutered and then allow them to be with other animals who are also not neutered. Also, what a coincidence that the female unneutered XL bully happens to come across a male unneutered XL bully when she is in season. Almost as if it was planned for the £££!

There are two responses to someone wanting to "gift" you one of these chav-beasts. The polite response is "no thank you". The less polite response is "no fucking way".

Here's the complete list from 2020 onwards of dog bite fatalities in the UK:

Staff Bull Terrier and Mastiff Cross
Chow Chow and German Shepherd Cross
Staff Bull Terrier Cross
American Bulldogs
Bully XL
Bully XL
British Bulldogs
Husky
Bully XL
Rottweiler
Cane Corso
Bully XL
Bully XL/Italian Mastiff
Bully XL
American Bulldog
Bully XL and Cane Corso Cross
American Pit Bull Terrier
American Bulldog or Pitbull/Husky Cross (unconfirmed)
Unconfirmed
Bully XL
Unconfirmed
Rottweilers
Bully XL

Now consider the fact that Bully XL dogs apparently make up less than 1% of the dogs in the UK.

This was my point for posting the link. That stays show the rapid increase in attacks since their popularity/breed occurred. I could spot one Dobermann death and as I said read the right hand column it was confirmed accidental as a result of the owner fitting. There is a death by a Jack Russell. Again read the right hand column, this is not in the slightest bit funny. It was a small baby. Unattended.

Thats just not true.

GuardiansPlayList · 19/09/2023 19:28

With the notable exception of assistance and working dogs, no one should be getting a dog for a pet - they are a luxury the planet cannot afford due to their high carbon footprint.

Willmafrockfit · 19/09/2023 19:21

on my fb someone put a picture of a bull terrier - saying Owners not Dogs.
what has the bull terrier got to do with it?

Who knows.

The thing is, these people seem to be saying it's the owner and not the breed and #dontbullymybreed, but then they're saying chihuahuas and labs are 'evil vicious fuckers'. What happened to it being the owner not the dog? And not bullying breeds?

They're just not very intelligent people and you can't argue with stupid.

Willmafrockfit · 19/09/2023 19:30

i spose if you have spent a fortune on those dogs you would stick up for them

HeatherMoores · 19/09/2023 19:31

we have been down this road before with several others breeds,

Yes we banned 4. 25 years later now if we have to add a 5th, so what? Eventually maybe a 6th or 7th? Ok. It’s all Ddoable.

Interestingly the RSPCA have banned about 27 specific breeds from their insurance.

Yes to all of this. But irresponsible people that have 'accidental litters' mix with other irresponsible people willing to take these dogs on.

It's a bit late for this comment.

Edited

And….the breed ban has been a total failure. Just as this new planned ban will be.

PalominoUK · 19/09/2023 19:36

This is why I won't watch Look North. Terrible journalism.

ToBrieOrNotToBrieThatIsTheQuestion · 19/09/2023 19:37

I saw this doing the rounds - a 'peaceful protest' against the ban outside parliament.

But they explicitly say not to bring dogs.

Bring empty leads though, and pictures of your dogs with your children Hmm

It's almost as if they know that, if people bring their XL Bullies to such a protest, there will be an incident in front of the cameras.

If I wanted to change people's opinions and make them see that my dog breed was actually really soft and lovable, I'd want them to meet the dogs - what better way to persuade them?

They are awfully ugly too

I think this too, I will honestly admit that I am not a dog person but can see the appeal of some of them with their intelligence, glossy coats and affectionate natures. One of my ex partners had a golden labrador and I can say I grew to truly love that dog. She was such a sweetheart, so bright and affectionate and even I as a non-dog lover fell for her. Those XL bully just look so ugly (not their fault I know), threatening and unpleasant. Their appeal has to be in the threat they pose and their horrible reputation

Some of us are just taking on the dogs that have ended up in rescue, often directly or indirectly as a result of irresponsible breeders.

I'd never buy a puppy from a breeder and I do think you're right in that a lot of pet ownership isn't a good thing.

I'd like to see a lot of dogs 'banned'. Leads, neutered/spayed, compulsory training, dog licences, something to stop basically anyone breeding etc. We should be trying to end a lot of the breeding that is happening.

Willmafrockfit · 19/09/2023 19:39

i am still very wary of dobermans

IClaudine · 19/09/2023 19:41

I have spent 20K on bullies. What a fucking idiot.

mbosnz · 19/09/2023 19:41

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And are we saying that people shouldn't want or enjoy a breed because we ourselves personally and subjectively, find them to be ugly?

There's lots of people don't like Chinese Crested dogs, pugs, pekinese, chihuahuas, basset hounds, british bull dogs, beagles, etc, etc etc. Are we saying that subjective opinions as to beauty should be factored into the equation of merit of existence?

colourwheelofortune · 19/09/2023 19:42

Hopefully social services are looking into it.

MagentaRocks · 19/09/2023 19:42

I have 2 collie crosses, neither of them are aggressive and have never bitten. They are good around kids and just want to play. I still wouldn’t leave a kid alone with them, especially a toddler.
