It's not half as salacious, possibly a bit dry and dull to most people.

But it's fucking constitutional dynamite

@MechaBuilder

What justice?

Out of morbid curiosity: who is 'they'?

Lizard people

More women are coming forward, so hopefully the police will be able to get something that they can arrest and convict him with. But this takes time. The police are investigating, more accusations are happening. Weinstein was done, hopefully Brand will be too.

Friths · 19/09/2023 11:29

@LondonLass91
yes it is about believing women because the denial of women's experiences is central to our oppression.

madamreign · 19/09/2023 11:30

@MechaBuilder

So people do want the police involved after all?

Maybe it would be better if the State (which includes the police) could be a bit less corrupt then?

OP posts:
ChocolateCinderToffee · 19/09/2023 11:31

I would guess 'they' is those who want the Tories back in power at the next election. Might be media barons, might be terrifyingly rich Tory funders. #

To people who think is is just another conspiracy theory: I doubt it. If you've worked in journalism or public relations, you know this is how negative news stories (for your particular client) are played down. There's a scandal about an overspend on a new project? Put it on a left-hand page where hardly anyone will look at it and slap a photo of cute children or an animal from a rescue centre on the right hand page. Hardly anyone will notice the negative story.

What gets me is how few people realise this is done.

Of course they do, and of course it would be better. But to twist it so that this is a bit cover up of something else is deeply unfair on the victims.

actualpuffins · 19/09/2023 11:33

I hope it buries Brand, TBH.

Janettttt · 19/09/2023 11:34

AIBU to think that your theory OP is an attempt to bury the RB story?

Why would you do this?!?

Jumpingthruhoops · 19/09/2023 11:34

Wanderingllama · 19/09/2023 07:00

I don't think it's this but I wondered the same from the moment they announced the programme

I don't think it's this but I'm certain it's a cover-up for something. It's all just a little too conveniently timed and very: 'Don't look over there, look over here!'

madamreign · 19/09/2023 11:38

He's not even that much of a celebrity these days- bit of a has been nut job.

Even Prince Andrew didn't get THIS much attention.

Yeah sure. Two separate media organisations did 4 years of investigation to bury the fact that Boris Johnson is a cunt.

I genuinely don't understand how people who think the world works this way cope with life.

'The shop's out of milk again. Oh no, the Illuminati must be restricting supply to distract us from the alien landings'

'I genuinely don't understand how people who think the world works this way cope with life.'

And I genuinely don't understand how people who don't think the world works this way cope with life!

How do you know it was a four-year investigation? Oh yes, that's right, because THEY told you. Oh dear...

Jumpingthruhoops · 19/09/2023 11:41

Wherly · 19/09/2023 07:15

Who is the "they" that exert all this power over Channel 4 and The Times but none over the BBC?

'They' would be the establishment.

The BBC is basically the PR arm.

So what did ‘they’ do? Start planting stories years before Russell Brand turned into a guru? They made Dani Minogue say what she said, made Jordan right the book, made a woman go to the police and file reports, all years and years ago just so that if and when Russell Brand talked about Covid on his YouTube channel they could use him to cover up the fact our previous bumbling idiot of a PM got up to more dodgy shit?

Yup, sounds legit to me.

MechaBuilder · 19/09/2023 11:42

Write not right, not paying attention

Janettttt · 19/09/2023 11:44

No point arguing with conspiracy theorists. They’re living in a parallel universe.

MidnightOnceMore · 19/09/2023 11:44

Conspiracy theories are a coping mechanism. Humans find uncertainty emotionally troubling. Conspiracy theories are very soothing - it means there is order, the chaos is illusory. It is also soothing to believe that you 'know' more than the sheeple do.

Conspiracy theories increase when there is turmoil/chaos - as during COVID - because more people need to seek the comfort of 'knowing' it's all a plan.

Conspiracy theories are a response to fear.

Longtalljosie · 19/09/2023 11:45

God above. Firstly - there’s nothing in that story which wasn’t known. It does not say the Queen actually spoke to him. It does not say who reminded him. BJ was playing fast and loose with constitutional convention left right and centre so I’d be amazed if members of the civil service weren’t trying to work out how to safeguard the limits of power, as it’s literally their job.

Secondly - this Brand story is a story. It was stood up by the “sorry” text message, the confirmation from the rape crisis centre and the contemporaneous therapy notes and the number of accusations. In what world does bringing down Russell Brand do anything at all to the government? He’s not the messiah, he’s a nasty piece of work who ran out of road…

But it isn’t about him per se it’s about the fact that many people knew abd were aware and did nothing, and the fact he clearly isn’t the only one on the comedy circuit

burying stories does happen I just can’t see it here

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/09/2023 11:48

Is anyone suggesting that there shouldn't have been an investigation into Russell Brand's obnoxious and possibly criminal behaviour? Do we really want the media to say 'We can either investigate RB's sexual behaviour and whether he raped women and even had sex with a 16 year old, OR we can investigate Boris Johnson's despicable and possibly illegal behaviour - we can't possibly investigate both!'

Surely BOTH stories are important and should be investigated and reported on? I am sure that the British public are intelligent enough to care and be angry about more than one thing at a time.

MidnightOnceMore · 19/09/2023 11:51

Janettttt · 19/09/2023 11:44

Agree there is no point arguing.

The worry is the rapid rise in number during COVID. It's a bit of a one-way road - hard to talk yourself back from this thinking.

What society does about the increased number who now think this way I don't know.

Jumpingthruhoops · 19/09/2023 11:53

MechaBuilder · 19/09/2023 11:41

Yup, sounds legit to me.

Not at all. I don't dispute any of those things happened. Russell has been open about his addictions and womanising.

That still doesn't make him a rapist.

My point is that the only reason you think it's been a four-year investigation is because TST and Channel 4 told you! Don't you think the timing especially is all a bit... random?

The establishment/globalist media have been looking for a way to take him down. This is it.

RedToothBrush · 19/09/2023 11:53

'They' is an unamed unameable undefinable concept that has no substance what so ever.

Its just a dislike for government institutions and public organisations for people who are incapable of forming a coherent argument that has any merit below its cooled chocolate crust.

Expose it to any level of sunlight above 10C and it melts into a messy blob of goo which needs to be scrapped up.

Brand goes down with these types of people because he's flamboyant and good at overegging the idea of intellegent because he uses frilly words. Never trust the word salad muppets of the world for this reason. Its a cover for lack of substance.

I saw a tweet earlier which really sums up my own sentiment on this well:

James Bloodworth AT J_Bloodworth
What I wrote about Russell Brand in 2013: “a comedian who won fame by sexually humiliating a woman on the radio and thinks it normal to harass every woman in his vicinity is now treated as Che Guevara because he uses words like ‘pre-existing paradigm’ in conversations with Jeremy Paxman”

He was given far too much of a platform for swallowing a dictionary.

But tbh, thats really the level politics has operated at for far too long.

More to the point they DON'T WANT to listen to anything but the voices in their own head and the ones that echo it.
