It's not half as salacious, possibly a bit dry and dull to most people.

But it's fucking constitutional dynamite

Last night we watched a BBC documentary (2nd of the series, State of Chaos, presented by Laura Kuenssberg) which covered precisely this (Boris and the Queen) so I don’t see how anyone can think it’s been ‘buried’.

@Lastchancechica

Media coverage does not generally help with successful prosecution in criminal law. Makes jury service more difficult for a start

Would Weinstein have been convicted if it wasn't for media exposure? Doubt it. He was getting away with it for decades. This is not just about Russrl Brand. It is shining a light on the entertainment industry enabling predators on their watch, and destroying the careers of staff in the industry just so they can protect ' stars'

PenhillDarkMonarch · 19/09/2023 09:31

Tell that to Weinstein. And Ghislaine. And Rolf. And all the rest who the justice system only actually seriously pursued after they were exposed by the media.

Agree with this. Seems to be the ONLY way to get justice for these kind of crimes is to use the might of the media to bring attention to them first.

OneTwoThreeShake · 19/09/2023 09:31

There is quite literally no reason to need to bury the fact that Boris was (is) a shitcunt. We all know. It's been pretty heavily reported for best part of a year. The current tory party is fairly anti Boris too.

@AmazingSnakeHead

"
Nobody is saying this, though. The idea is rather that when there are big stories, the government lets otherwise headline news into the press so that it gets overlooked. Or perhaps sometimes there will be a big story which isn't time sensitive, like the Brand one, and the papers have some discretion about when to release the story.

Nobody is saying that they did the investigation specifically to bury this. It's just that timing in newspaper stories has always been used to political advantage. When a seemingly trivial story is being pushed for an entire week, it's hardly illuminati level conspiracy to ask yourself why that is."

Exactly!

Brand isn't important, he's a nasty little creature who needs to face justice.

In the meantime, nobody bothered about rampant corruption from a party that could again, win the next election?

I don't believe that the rot stopped when Boris was ejected. I don't want my country to be corrupt. I want a proper, functioning government. A proper, functioning gov could root out sexism in the Met. Instead, we have corruption top to bottom.

Whether it's civil servants feeling that they need to appeal to The Palace for help or the Met being riddled with misogyny, it's the SAME problem.

Don’t disagree with any of your points. However, I part ways with you on making statements that the RB report was manufactured to distract from that. It makes no sense and is horrendously flawed even without close inspection.

if you want an actual evidenced example of government manipulating the media, have a look into the piece on Carrie Johnson’s job offer being withdrawn after publication online. I don’t deny it happens but bashing a square peg into a round hole because you want people to feel a certain way isn’t going to gain support.

heathspeedwell · 19/09/2023 09:34

According to Rape Crisis UK fewer than 2% of rapes reported to the police end up in charges being brought, let alone making it to court.

And some people are worried that poor little Russel might not get a fair trial?

The whole legal system is weighted in favour of the rapists, not the victims, but we still have women on Mumsnet prioritising male feelings over women's safety.

Something like 95% of rape victims don't bother reporting it to the police. Reading some of the naive attitudes on here I can see why.

In case of Maxwell, didn't she have a black book of clients? Now that would be expose most world would watch

The civil service asking the palace for help is not an old story.

If it is, can you tell me when it was released?

It was released years ago. The civil service hated Johnson and Cummings. It was transparent at the time that the queen didn’t want to get dragged into it!!!
Just because you have conveniently forgotten is meaningless!

Please answer why you have downgraded the rape and sexual assault of women and children (at 16 one of the victims is legally a child) to a mere cover story?

I have noticed you have repeatedly ignored this question?

EmmaPaella · 19/09/2023 09:36

Unsure what has been hidden here. Both stories seem to be being covered?

I did wonder whether the Huw Edwards story was broken, at that precise moment I mean, to bury George Osborne wedding email though.

Why the hell do I still have to stand outside Greggs to get my bloody mobile app working??!!

You can tell the ones in Waitrose who haven't had it, that's for sure. Five minutes to get a signal to pay by phone.😄Gates didn't get me, I'm too clever for him, I use cash.

Now I'm embarrassed that I've revealed on Mumsnet that I have the Greggs app (I use it to get the kids an after school snack, honest guv!)😂

Exactly and they are only running it again as the BBC latest effort to drum up support for Labour. It’s astonishing that people can be this dumb.

Every time I turn on the bbc it sounds like a constant Labour election campaign.

When was the news about the specific request for help from the palace, released?

This is new and has huge ramifications

Russell brand is merely an example of a much bigger and ongoing phenomenon where famous men in film and television have been enabled to abuse their power and to exploit and abuse a whole range of people.

He is just the latest example where there’s sufficient evidence to expose this.

In himself, he is simply not important enough to be the centre of any conspiracy. No matter how dearly he’s love us to believe he is.

He’s merely a creepy man who has been able to behave dreadfully. It’s not even been a secret that’s just come out. Only that dispatches and channel 4 have assembled enough evidence to ensure he can’t use threats of litigation to keep it as just well known gossip and rumour within media circles.

Answer my question about your minimisation of rape….. I am waiting

donquixotedelamancha · 19/09/2023 07:13

Yeah sure. Two separate media organisations did 4 years of investigation to bury the fact that Boris Johnson is a cunt.

I genuinely don't understand how people who think the world works this way cope with life.

'The shop's out of milk again. Oh no, the Illuminati must be restricting supply to distract us from the alien landings'

Couldn't have put it better myself!

countrypunk · 19/09/2023 09:40

I agree. RB has been vocal of late on his YouTube channel about cluster bombs and the west's influence in the war in Ukraine. It absolutely feels like a stitch up. I don't automatically believe a documentary full of actors stating allegations. I also feel it is impossible for him to get a fair trial now, should it proceed to court.

You do realise, don't you, that when you imply the government has colluded with the media in this story in order to silence RB's conspiracy theory ramblings, you're doing exactly what RB himself wants you to do, yes? He's spent the past few years cultivating a cult leader persona and manipulating his online followers into mistrusting anything the 'mainstream' media says, probably precisely because he knew this day would come when he'd be held accountable for his appalling treatment of women and girls, and he'd need an army of goons behind him?

Do you really believe that
a) a multimillionaire, Henley-on-Thames dwelling global Hollywood star is really that far outside the mainstream, and
b) the government gives a single solitary shit about videos he posts about Ukraine?

I find this level of gullibility really quite worrying.

Covidwoes · 19/09/2023 09:40

@Lastchancechica I have actually reported the thread for minimising sexual abuse and rape. I doubt it'll be removed, but like you, I'm incensed. The OP clearly didn't watch the documentary or read the article. The phone call between RB and Saville alone made my blood run cold. How on earth people can brush that off as harmless banter is disgusting.

Lastchancechica · 19/09/2023 09:41

It is not huge or massive it’s just reflective of a civil service spat. It was covered amply at the time.

I am still waiting for the reason why you are minimising rape and sexual assault on a mothers forum op?

HRTQueen · 19/09/2023 09:42

The second episode is on tonight last weeks was just a reminder of what a mess UK politics was in after the referendum and how back stabbing politics can be (abs really nothing in comparison to some countries)

tonight’s program won’t shock many we all know what Boris Johnson is about and most voters are only interested in politics once there is an election (or referendum)

His team shall probably use this as claim that there is a campaign against him within the Tory party

Indeed, if there’s any hint of ‘conspiracy’ here, it’s far more likely that brand himself has encouraged the scandal to be exposed because, quite frankly, almost everyone had forgotten about him - other than some people at the crackpot end of social media.

actors have been used to voice witness statements on tv for decades. This argument is ridiculous.

Nobody with an ounce of credibility gives a shit about Brands opinion on the Ukraine conflict.

The news in the report is that after years of manipulation and misuse of injunctions by Brand to silence anyone who tried to speak out about his actions, his victims have had a platform where they’ve been supported to speak out despite the legal protection Brand can afford to erect around himself. The playing field has been levelled. That’s all you’re witnessing.

I hope he gets his day in court too, but don’t for one second think this is what he wants. He’s gone to a great deal of effort to make sure he doesn’t have to address any allegation in court.

Bingo. You are doing exactly what brand - or camp brand want you to do….almost by sheer chance…..what an amazing or most miraculous coincidence.
