Have you started wearing a coat yet?

Thunderstorms last night, but looking around most people are wearing a hoodie/cardigan and flip flops (in London). It doesn’t feel cold enough for a coat yet but are you wearing a coat?

A coat??!! Where do you live? 21 degrees here today. It did rain but tshirt amd umbrella only needed.

TheLightProgramme · 18/09/2023 22:45

Yep! Your standard trench coat...breathable, light, but get a proper one & it'll keep out rain too

And where was it 21 degrees today? We had 14 degrees max.

OneTwoThreeShake · 18/09/2023 22:47

Christ no. I'd boil alive! I'm still in tshirts.

RampantIvy · 18/09/2023 22:48

So, it seems that I live in a cold microclimate while the rest of mumsnet boils (apart from the poster in Northumberland)

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 18/09/2023 22:52

It’s been about 12/13 and wet here today. No winter coat yet but you definitely need something - leather jacket and umbrella for me.

IntheSnowySnowyMountains · 18/09/2023 23:24

No! Have worn a sweater once since May and been out with my umbrella a few times. Was considering getting the duvet out tonight but couldn't be bothered, we just have the cover on, though I have an emergency blanket! It's throwing it down here but there is plenty of heat stored in the house.

I don't think I'd wear a coat before November. Weather seems to go straight from warm to freezing around then.

Clymene · 18/09/2023 23:25

No. London is still really warm

cocksstrideintheevening · 18/09/2023 23:29

Nope still on shorts and vests. Wet skin dries quick than cloth.

EggInANest · 18/09/2023 23:30

Been in shorts and short sleeved top all day in London.

UnNiddeRides · 18/09/2023 23:30

No

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 18/09/2023 23:30

I rarely wear one really. I just take a brolly if it's raining, and will wear a waterproof knee length thin-ish coat with a hood when it's really torrential rain, or very cold. So nope, no coat yet @TakeMe2Insanity Probably not for 3 months... at least. Smile

VanillaFlotilla · 18/09/2023 23:31

No but I shut all the windows tonight, for the first time since the summer. It's chilly here tonight! (South East)

Caswallonthefox · 18/09/2023 23:36

Nope, cuz ziggy told me the current temp was 19° and even though it was dripping after a thunderstorm I didn't need a coat.
My room is 19.4° with a window open, so 't ain't cold

RampantIvy · 19/09/2023 07:14

I have put my shorts and summer clothes away for the winter. I'm back in socks snd jumpers, and our night time temperatures have gone down to single figures. Our heating has even come back on in the morning now.

No urban heat island effect here.

ApolloandDaphne · 19/09/2023 07:21

It's 9 degrees here. Of course I am wearing a coat!

Zonder · 19/09/2023 07:29

No but I might start wearing a jumper today.

YourNameGoesHere · 19/09/2023 07:30

I suppose it depends on whether you drive to work and then spend the day inside but on my commute this morning by public transport everyone is wearing a coat. It's blowing a gale and pissing it down a brolly and T-shirt just wouldn't cut it.

faban · 19/09/2023 07:31

No but I got my gilet out yesterday and it was lovely

NeverDropYourMooncup · 19/09/2023 07:34

I've put a light sweater on to go to work. That should cover it until the end of November.

AvengedQuince · 19/09/2023 07:36

I have a thin waterproof jacket if I'm out walking and it rains. My puffer jacket I wouldn't wear until it's single digits usually.

Hufflepods · 19/09/2023 07:39

@EggInANest Been in shorts and short sleeved top all day in London.

Unless you went out for 1 hour in the later evening sunshine you will have looked ridiculous. I was out in London all day and not one person was dressed like this.

EasternStandard · 19/09/2023 07:40

Very mild here

Weather app says 24 next week!

Why should a person be ridiculed for dressing differently to the majority? We all feel temperature differently.

GigiAnnna · 19/09/2023 07:43

No, it's definitely getting cooler now but not cold enough for me to wear a coat where I am. I've just been wearing a rain jacket.
