AIBU to think... 'here we go again?'

Anyone watching? I've always said 'innocent until proven guilty' but also 'there is no smoke without fire'.

Having been sexually assaulted myself, one of the stories seem so similar to mine.

What's your thoughts?

This is the most confusing post, I know. I just don't know how I feel.

I always thought he was smelly and dirty, but had no clue he was a rapist and groomer too. Hiding in plain sight, like Savile.

Sickening, isn't it?

This whole programme on c4 made me feel sick

JamSandle · 16/09/2023 22:16

I think it's impossible to tell who is capable of sexual abuse.

I'm reserving judgement on the case (not watched the documentary yet). But I have been raped and also sexually assaulted (two seperate occassions).

I also know of two women who made false rape claims.

So it's a very complex, or can be a very complex area.

Just sad all round.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 16/09/2023 22:17

I want to know the opinions of the fan girls on MN who swoon over this odious pos.

ArtCollection · 16/09/2023 22:17

I gave zero doubt he's a sexual predator. Another one in plain sight.

ArtCollection · 16/09/2023 22:18

Blueeyedmale · 16/09/2023 22:18

I met him many years ago he was a patron of a well known drugs charity I don't know what to think I feel quite sick seeing this tonight

Wassapp · 16/09/2023 22:20

I'm a nanny; he was at a fun pool that I took my charge to a few months ago.

Ashamed to say that I was starstruck. I had no idea.

I've read a lot of posts on here today saying "oh but he's always been honest about who he is / about having a lot of sex" etc.
But what if that was all a cover because he knew it would come out one day?

I was saying that earlier.

I think I am changing my mind now.

Absolutely no surprise he’s officially an odious predatory creep, he made no secret of it. The bigger story is how and why he kept getting so many high profile gigs when it was so obvious how relentlessly vile his treatment of women was.

magneticmoon · 16/09/2023 22:26

Russell Brand has been an open secret in comedy / acting circles for a very long time.

Yep, and also saying he has turned his life around with yoga and spirituality 🙄

As if that’s redemption for rape and grooming.

gingersnappz · 16/09/2023 22:27

Hiding in plain sight - as you said in the OP I think, is the best summary of it IMO.

This video gives an interesting analysis of why he released the YouTube video last night:

Agreed.

This programme is tough to watch.

Flufferblub · 16/09/2023 22:27

I think that the floodgates are going to open now. Like me too and Savile

Mayorq · 16/09/2023 22:28

I mean he's absolutely a fucking wrong un but I'm not sure how you can say "I've always said 'innocent until proven guilty' but also 'there is no smoke without fire'."

They're mutually exclusive.

Just say you trust the smoke more than you believe in innocent until proven guilty. Nothing wrong with it

I seem to recall Louis Theroux saying that Jimmy Saville was honest about who he was, too

Yep. What I said was totally confusing and I said that in my OP.

I think what I meant was, I like to think that people are innocent til proven guilty but in a case like this, in a day and age where someone will sue at the drop of a hat, a media coverage like this has to be shown with alot of conviction that they are sure of what they are saying.

Hotelecholimapapa · 16/09/2023 22:32

Wow, that was a tough watch. If the victims were telling the truth, there will be many, many more to come forward. I tried to stay open minded but I can believe he is guilty.

Flufferblub · 16/09/2023 22:33

Eccentric, a bit of a character, does a lot for charity. Seems to be ticking some boxes

Goldcircle · 16/09/2023 22:34

I think he might have been set up, too political and into conspiracy

Frickinghell · 16/09/2023 22:34

I just think these situations where its jury by media are all very sad. Let it go through the courts before the public flogging. Did it happen or not? We dont know for sure, however there are multiple victims here. I just dont know 🤷🏻‍♀️

StBrides · 16/09/2023 22:34

"Innocent until proven guilty" means he won't be incarcerated in prison or receive a criminal record unless proven guilty in a criminal court. Its a fundamental tenet of our justice system.

It does not mean that it's unfair to believe the testimony and weighty, compelling evidence of victims.
