Hatred of certain words/phrases

In a supermarket and heard a middle aged woman say 'OH! You've got back off your holibobs then!?'

What is wrong with saying 'holiday'? I actually cringed when I heard it.

Feel free to add your own...

Hate “wanna, gonna, gotta” etc, not sure why I just never have liked them!

paisley256 · 08/10/2023 20:58

"Man up"

Anything being "awesome"

RainbowBasket · 08/10/2023 20:59

Also corporate speak like “sync up, circle back” etc. I’d rather just speak to the person.

IMarchToADifferentDrummer · 08/10/2023 21:09

People saying "I mean" before they've even said anything!
Calling them 'chester draws' when it's a chest of drawers.
Saying 'somethink', 'anythink', etc, use the blooming 'g' at the end!
'Woke' that really gets my goat up!!

NoNoHellaNoNoHellaNoNo · 08/10/2023 21:22

The vast overuse of the word “woke”, which peaked the last week when it was used to describe HS2.

”Sleeps”, used by anyone over the age of 10.

Fucking “love language”.

This thread has been brilliant! I've laughed so much at how many I hate 😂

RantyAnty · 09/10/2023 07:42

Pudding
Krissy for Christmas
Pressie for present

Specific to FB marketplace...
"Chester drawers"
"Could do with a clean" - take some pride and give it a scrub before you put it on then you dirty bugger!

Yes, and the brand new except some major flaw ads.

"Car brand new except for missing wheels"
"Car perfect except for blown engine"

Umm no, it's not close to being brand new.

inapropertyquandry · 18/10/2023 08:05

'Smash it'. As in a FB post from a proud parent who proclaims their child will 'smash it at uni'.
Actually I don't like uni very much either.

marshmallowfinder · 18/10/2023 08:23

I keep seeing trash articles with the headline "xx breaks silence..." FFS! You mean the person simply said something at some point? 🙄

Starchipenterprise · 18/10/2023 08:34

'Good Egg' as I read on a thread this morning, 'belly' or any phrase with 'belly' in it.

LastHives · 18/10/2023 09:20

Unpick 😩

jc12689 · 18/10/2023 09:51

We're pregnant.

FluentinSimlish · 18/10/2023 10:34

I can’t stand ‘get your ducks in a row’ or the use of the words tummy or belly.

One that I see a lot on Facebook is “my love”, usually when someone has tagged their partner and put “Eating dinner with my love.”

Houseplanter · 18/10/2023 11:45

Cuppa
Brekkie
A bite to eat.

sammylady37 · 18/10/2023 21:03

“I lost my shit at X situation” - it’s horribly crass and unnecessary. Similar to “boils my piss”

andbreathe555 · 18/10/2023 21:31

"Muck in" to help out I have always hated as an expression and I'm not sure why!

Hollibobs, hun, 'making memories', train station.

Why the objection to "train station"? There are bus stations as well, so "pick me up from the station" might mean either.

LavendersBlueeee · 18/10/2023 22:26

So many on here that I concur with.
chocca as in chocca block, as in busy. Hate that one.

It's really a railway station.
