In a supermarket and heard a middle aged woman say 'OH! You've got back off your holibobs then!?'

What is wrong with saying 'holiday'? I actually cringed when I heard it.

Feel free to add your own...

It’s gonna get messy
living my best life
all the feels
going for a cheeky (insert word)

Unprecedented

vibes

‘and just like that…’ at the start of any post

🤦‍♀️

Ienjoyedthebarbiemovie · 16/09/2023 20:00

I’ve had worse Mondays with a picture of whatever they’re smug about

Frazzledandfried · 16/09/2023 20:01

Specific to FB marketplace...
"Chester drawers"
"Could do with a clean" - take some pride and give it a scrub before you put it on then you dirty bugger!

Northernsouloldies · 16/09/2023 20:01

The term Markies instead of marks and spencers could be regional, Ne Scotland its called markies by people.

Notts90 · 16/09/2023 20:01

Overused words.

Toxic is thrown out for the most minor of disagreements.

Narc

General buzzwords actually.

WhyShouldThatMeanItIsntReal · 16/09/2023 20:01

“A bite to eat”
It’s not a bite though is it. Who the fuck just has one bite of a meal?? And who the fuck is “biting” their food??
This phrase honestly fills me with inexplicable rage.

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 16/09/2023 20:02

I was today year old when I realised.....
Adulting

Hollibobs, hun, 'making memories', train station.

I agree with the first few, but “train station?” What do you mean? What could possibly be wrong with that? Is bus station OK?

I really hate “picky bits/picky lunch” and my most hated is “we want to put our stamp on the house” it irritates me so much!

It’s not one that bothers me but I assume it should be railway station.

IsleOfPenguinBollards · 16/09/2023 20:04

Reaching out - this gives me a mental image of pleading faces and desperate clawing hands. Are you sure that’s how you want to portray your business?

Cuppa

Cheeky takeaway (or cheeky + any other food or drink)

Going forward - we’re all going forward; there’s no other option, so it’s meaningless. You may as well remind people that Tuesday is followed by Wednesday, or that Winter is followed by Spring.

motleymop · 16/09/2023 20:04

'Bits' bothers me too. 'I got a few bits from the shops' is another example.

Fromage · 16/09/2023 20:04

I am glad "reaching out" is on its way out. Lives have been saved.

verabarbleen · 16/09/2023 20:05

Spag bol always annoyed me even as a little girl 😂
Also hollibobs , and agree with pp about 'need gone' on ads or even worse 'just want it gone' sounds so dramatic 😂

NoraLuka · 16/09/2023 20:06

Pup when talking about an adult dog.

Nom nom nom.

I like living my best life, but I don’t think I’ve ever said it out loud in real life!

I would think that most people are Grin

How would you describe eating an apple? You bite it!

I hate the expression too, though

FadedRed · 16/09/2023 20:07

Getting ‘the rage’ - always think of those posters at Dover and similar ferry port buildings about not smuggling in animals from the continent because of the risk of Rabies ‘La Rage’ in French. When I see posters writing that something or other ‘Gives them the rage’, I can imagine them foaming at the mouth and biting people 😂.

IsleOfPenguinBollards · 16/09/2023 20:07

I once had an English teacher who said that “train station” was an Americanism and that “railway station” was the original British equivalent.

Fromage · 16/09/2023 20:08

American English, rather than British English: "go ahead and...." followed by an instruction. I can no longer watch recipes from Americans. "Go ahead and get a bowl. Go ahead and crack an egg. Go ahead and separate it. Go ahead and get your whisk. Go RIGHT ahead and whip the egg. Go ahead and block me because I can't stop saying 'go afuckinghead.'"

Oh! I am West Indian so that makes sense.

Coastalcreeksider · 16/09/2023 20:09

Raging

No one I know in real life has ever used that word. It's usually angry or furious.

Only on Mumsnet is anyone raging.

Alltheparmesanplease · 16/09/2023 20:10

'picky tea' makes my blood boil

When people review an item they have bought and describe it as a 'great bit of kit'. Just pisses me off.

Christmasusernamepending · 16/09/2023 20:10

Manky and peng
Could think of loads more but they came to mind first

AuntieJoyce · 16/09/2023 20:11

Boundaries. What happened to standards? It’s just poncey psychobabble.

I’m afraid I’m still reaching out at work. Apologies everyone.
