Just on the news - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-stoke-staffordshire-66817795

Week after week, there is something wrong with dogs (and the owners) today, I grew up with them and this never, ever happened. Maybe because dogs were treated as dogs and not trophy animals. Awful for everyone.

Crime scene

Man attacked by two dogs near school in Stonnall dies

A man suffers fatal injuries when attacked by two dogs in a street near a school in Staffordshire.

That doesn’t sound like a sensible matching by Dog Trust! Poor woman.

It is going to be interesting to see how the Government handle rehomes by rescue organisations when the law changes at the end of the year. When the current four breeds were banned, there was nowhere near the numbers in general population that we are faced with in today’s climate.

Shadowchaser · 19/10/2023 06:41

People will be in uproar about ‘healthy’ bullies being euthanised when in reality is thousands of healthy dogs are euthanised every week because they can’t find homes. I doubt rehoming will be easy,, mostly because not many people will want a dog with such restrictions.

There are always so many Facebook posts campaigning to rehome dogs that have bitten or are dangerous breeds. I saw one yesterday trying to rehome a large dog that had bitten a 7yo child- people were commenting calling the child and commenting saying it should remain in the home with more parental supervision. Personally I would ban the rehoming or passing on of any breed that’s shown aggression. You can either cope with it therefore it’s not that bad or you can’t, it shouldn’t be made someone else’s problem.
If any of my dogs had shown aggression to anyone, especially me or my children, there’s not a chance I would be keeping it to see what happens next!

Another attack - a young man in Scotland this time. Fortunately just injured, attack recorded by the neighbours. Two grown men are battering the thing and it doesn't flinch.

People will keep defending them though. The fb comments regarding the previous attack on the woman were ludicrous. Apparently she must have provoked it, and it was the height of cruelty that the police shot it - a vet should have risked having their face torn off to put it down instaed.

Moment 'XL Bully' attacks teen as passers-by desperately try and stop horror mauling

THIS is the horrifying moment a suspected XL Bully savages a teenager outside a block of flats. The bloody attack took place at the entrance of Oakfield high rise in Anderson Street in Motherwell. …

Clearly that is not an xl bully. The dog is way to small to be one.

Freshstart78 · 20/10/2023 02:13

It is weird how it’s always the Midlands. Never south, never north. Do you reckon there’s a bad blood line or something?

A ‘pocket bully’ - that’s probably why the poor lad is still alive. Still obviously the same bite behaviour and difficulty to stop it despite attempts from two adult men, but (thankfully) not quite the strength.

Anna8089 · 20/10/2023 07:44

Really. Have you looked outside. Where i live its out of control with dogs. Kids cant walk to school or play outside. Even public transport is a no go with people taking their unleashed akitas pitbulls etc to roam freely up and down the aisle. Authorities ignore this. This year like a lot of people we are prisoners in our own homes. You don't know if you're going to live just walking out your front door and we aren't allowed to protect ourselves. Your the one that's crazy. I used to think guns were bad. Now we need them wither we want them or not. Also not safe from all the extreme violence seen every single day and the government is making more police redundant. I cant believe this is modern living whilst poverty is everywhere too. This is no life. The drop in quality of living in the last 10-20 years has been nothing but astounding. And the government cant understand why no-one wants to work in jobs dealing with the public.

Dullardmullard · 20/10/2023 08:25

And this is how we mistake the xl for other dogs and condemn all dogs because folks don’t know the actual breed.

Well for a start it isn't an actual breed...it is a type that shares certain characteristics & should include pocket bullies. They are the same type

But for many this isn’t true though that dogs are everywhere certainly not in my area or others.

oh fyi dogs have always been allowed on public transport.

also you want us to have guns wtf so the violence increases not decreases.

yes we need better reform but guns nope

But you don’t know if it was a pocket bully you assumed it was an xl could of been a staffie or even another breed

my point all dogs get condemned because no one knows the breed or even the type

We do know the type. It's always the same type of dog in these attacks, how on earth can you pretend it isn't and expect anyone to believe it when there is video footage of dogs that look exactly the same doing this (this one smaller but otherwise identical to all the other dogs in all the other videos that start mauling passers-by for no reason and can't be stopped). There is a pattern that even the most ridiculous deed-not-breed defender can deny. The same dogs, behaving in the same way over and over again.

BreakfastAtMidnight · 20/10/2023 09:35

Here is the dog in question, @Dullardmullard - its face is smeared in blood from the teenager it's just attacked but it's hardly a baffling mystery as to what type of dog it is, is it? It's very identifiable as a bully breed, just like all the other dogs who are attacking people in the street. The fact that it's a bit smaller is the reason someone has managed to get it tied up before it was thankfully destroyed, but it still took two grown men beating the thing to save the teenager. It's enormously disingenuous to pretend we have no idea whar sort of dog it is and what it has in common with all the other dog attacks we're seeing.

I think all dogs not on a lead in public spaces should be PTS . That would solve the problem,

Deadringer · 20/10/2023 10:19

All I could think watching that footage is thank god it wasn't his face/head or he would be dead or horrifically disfigured. I actually feel really sorry for the dog sitting there waiting to be killed, but dogs like this one are killing machines once they get going, they shouldn't exist in society, if people want a dog as a companion they should pick one that isn't a danger to other people.

What a stupid comment. Really? My little Westie, playing peacefully, under control, that has no history of biting, unlikely to so much as break the skin even if he did, and could be overpowered by a toddler should be put down, because there are a few monster abominations going around?

BreakfastAtMidnight · 20/10/2023 10:31

The dog doesn't know it's waiting to be killed @Deadringer - it's had a lovely time attacking that teenager and it has no concept of its own mortality. I think we have to be really careful about anthropomorphising animals. It's not mournfully contemplating its death sentence, it has no idea. What we should be sad about are the injuries, death and lifelong trauma being inflicted on people as a result of these dogs being bred and bought. Not sad about a dog having the time of its life mauling someone and then being euthanised as a result.

I never said that, I said you assumed it was a pocket bully. Also is it a bully can you tell by a pic as I mistook a cane corso cross for a bully in the past why because of his head shape.

for your info it is the deed not the breed. It’s how they are raised and bred. Yes there is idiots out there that use them as weapons but we’ve had this with other breeds for years too

also do you actually believe what the press or news tell you what’s happened as it’s to sell or to keep you interested so 90% is made up or embellished for the vying public to get their backs up and this government are using the xl to gain votes, look at the damn bigger picture

but is there any point in debating with you as it looks like you’ve made up your mind.

dawngreen · 20/10/2023 11:21

Stop anthropomorphising animals your self @BreakfastAtMidnight !

SomeCatFromJapan · 20/10/2023 11:22

I hadn't actually seen the picture of the thing. That is definitely no staffie. I agree it looks like a pocket bully or like they've made an attempt to breed one of those gross toad bully things.

CBAanymoreTBH · 20/10/2023 11:23

@Dullardmullard dogs have different behaviour traits depending on type. This is literally why dogs exist in so many varieties as a species. It is breed not deed! Have you seen a farmer using a greyhound as a sheepdog? Or a shitzu retrieving game?

CBAanymoreTBH · 20/10/2023 11:24

You need to read what I wrote

again I never said that, the attacks happened but we are getting the baying public after reading the reports in the press

case in point paper reports bully breed for attacking and maiming someone turns out it was a lie it was another breed entirely will they change it will they fuck

it’s been discussed in parliament and it’s been shown these attacks happened to the folks that actually own these dogs or family within not strangers as reported.

I’m sadden with the deaths yes but when you target one breed where does it stop.

reform
legislative laws
heavier fines/jail time
