as a new person on here to expect some of my posts to be acknowledged?

I joined this site recently, thinking it might be a friendly place to chat to other mums, but how wrong I was- I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall. All my posts are totally ignored. Do newbies not warrant any acknowledgement?

OP posts:

Hi PetLamb, welcome to Mumsnet. I haven't been on here very long either so I don't think my response really counts... but HELLO, count your post as acknowledged

lalaa · 03/03/2008 19:45

no, you're just unlucky! bear with us.... it's worth it!

ska · 03/03/2008 19:45

oh dear! its a bit cliquey sometimes, dont worry they're ok really!

You've not made it unless you've been ignored, were you not warned about the initiation ceremony

Maidamess · 03/03/2008 19:45

Petlamb where have you posted? Have you started threads or just joined existing ones? In my experience, its not that often that the original poster can comment on all posts that people leave. The threads move so fast...just say what you want and move on! Welcome, by the way!

Did somebody say something.......?

Only kidding PetLamb.

Welcome to Mumsnet, I know it can seem a bit harsh in here to begin with but you'll soon grow a thick skin and get into some of the more heated debates.

ShinyDysonHereICome · 03/03/2008 19:46

Some times the board is busier than others. Don't be afraid to bump your thread to get more responses

Can you post a link to some of your threads- the title of the post tends to draw the reader in so have you worded it in a way that will catch people's attention?

Welcome to Mumsnet

Buda · 03/03/2008 19:46

Are you mad? Joining this mad lot? You will regret it. It is addictive.

Hi!

You know you are in if you are ignored.

theyoungvisiter · 03/03/2008 19:47

well it depends on the thread. If you post saying "please give me advice on X" then yes - you probably will be acknowledged.

If you post on a 243 post thread about breast vs bottle then no, your post probably won't be acknowledged as people are too busy shouting over each other to be heard.

Do you think making more interesting/supportive posts might be a better way of addressing the problem, rather than starting deliberately provocative threads ?

MissyTheFlouncer · 03/03/2008 19:47

it is a bit clique sometimes i try to ignore it............. welcome by the way

Overrun · 03/03/2008 19:47

PetLamb, you have to persevere, both develop a bit of a thick skin I'm afraid. If you are posting on lots of threads, your name will start to get noticed, and also look at how people write the thread title. Some threads get a lot of responses because of a catchy title.
Hope this helps, but you ANBU in opinion

FAWKEOFF · 03/03/2008 19:47

well you've grabbed the attention now

SugarSkyHigh · 03/03/2008 19:47

agree with maidamess, and ska.

welcome !

(what threads are your ignored threads on)??

2happy · 03/03/2008 19:48

Just say something about P&T spaces. Or fruit shoots. Or breast v bottle. Then you'll get noticed

i mean posts

Nessamommy · 03/03/2008 19:48

Hello Petlamb! I'm new too...I've found that it just depends on the topic and it also depends on who is looking at it when. Some are responded to a lot and quickly..some not so much. Hope it gets better!

WallOfSilence · 03/03/2008 19:48

She's done 9 posts.

Hi Petlamb

How're you doing?

colditz · 03/03/2008 19:48

PetLamb - lamb to the slaughter?

I've never seen your name before, you really must lose these notions of 'parenting' and 'housekeeping' if you want to be noticed ...

Seriously, YANBU BUT there are roughly 100 people posting in any 24 hour period, and I get ignore3d the majority of the time too. don't let it faze you.

tell you what, shall I follow you around for the next week saying "I totally agree, PetLamb"?

lottymadbird · 03/03/2008 19:48

No one really knows you are a newbie (unless they spend their whole lives on MN, which does happen to a few of us!), so dont be offended.

Wait until you've been on a while and you end up killing every thread you post on like I do.

Welcome ! And persevere !

hercules1 · 03/03/2008 19:49

You might want to develop some thick skin.

nickytwotimes · 03/03/2008 19:50

Hi petlamb. You just have to jump in round here. And have a thick skin. And a sharp tongue....
Seriously, there is a lot of, um, debate, but if you are looking for support, it is here too.
