Man in caravan parked over the road

Would this creep you out?

We live in a holiday type place, fairly close to the beach (not U.K.)
But it’s a suburban area and a cul de sac
On and off for the last few weeks, a caravan has pulled up across the road and just parks there for days on end and then just goes until the next time.
I walked with my Dd and dog before and looked in the front window (driver part) and sort a man sort of dart into the back of the caravan.
I am a fairly anxious person about these sorts of things, I have a 5 year old and a few of Dds friends of a similar age on the street and I just don’t like it
Aibu?

Wouldn't bother me. I'd assume he's living in it and moving around 'sites'

BigFatLiar · 10/09/2023 19:59

Are there any bylaws against it. May just be someone wanting to be near the beach with gheir caravan. With wfh he may be taking the opportunity to work from his caravan while getting away from home for a while.

If I wasn't retired I might be tempted to dothis, though in different places.

Thisyearhasflownby · 10/09/2023 20:03

@BigFatLiar To just park up in front of houses on a cul de sac where people live and try to park? Dh is more pissed off we can’t park easily now, I’m just creeped out

@MatthewsMumFromTikTok Yes, but you can’t just live on people street can you? Right in front of their homes and gardens and in their parking spaces

Contact the Council if you want him moved on.

Clymene · 10/09/2023 20:04

Travellers aren't any more creepy than any other person.

It’s not your parking space, is it? It’s public road so anyone can park there

MissingMoominMamma · 10/09/2023 20:06

Do you mean a motorhome/campervan? Lots of people live in them now because they can’t afford housing.

If it is a caravan though, that’s odd.

nebulae · 10/09/2023 20:06

Why are you creeped out? Are you assuming he's a paedophile?

RandomMess · 10/09/2023 20:06

In the UK they can and do just park up.

Thisyearhasflownby · 10/09/2023 20:08

Not assuming he’s anything, but don’t like not knowing who he is..everyone knows each other in the neighbourhood…there are camp sites v v close and people park their vans by the beach, why go to a random quiet cul de sac, it’s just weird

@RandomMess Hasn't happened on
our road before, just seems odd

You can't expect to 'know' everyone though, that's unrealistic

There are a few converted vans parked near our local hospital, and there are camper vans parked up on the streets with people living in them.

it’s dreadful thst in 2023, people working a full time job, have the luxury of a van conversion to call home.

MatthewsMumFromTikTok · 10/09/2023 20:10

You answered it yourself Ip....it's quiet

And they are not your parking spaces if it's on the road

LakeTiticaca · 10/09/2023 20:10

Isn't there a law about just parking a caravan in a residential area and camping in it? Sounds like this guy just doesn't want to pay for a pitch .
Report to the council

PinkRoses1245 · 10/09/2023 20:10

YABU. Assuming it’s a public road it’s actually not illegal to sleep in a van there

Maybe he doesn’t feel safe by the beach? Maybe he thought it would be safer in a quiet street?

Thisyearhasflownby · 10/09/2023 20:11

@randomusername2020 Exactly, haven’t seen him come out yet, but just the way I saw a male figure move away when I walked past freaked me out.
They’re not designated parking spaces, but only residents ever park here, it just really stands out and seems odd

PinkRoses1245 · 10/09/2023 20:11

you are being very paranoid as well, like you assume he’s going to hurt your kid

WhateverMate · 10/09/2023 20:11

OP, what has your local authority said about it?

If he's allowed to do it, then that's that. If he's not, then he'll be moved on.

mumyes · 10/09/2023 20:11

OP I think you're being slightly unreasonable. He might have housing struggles / difficulties, or maybe he comes to visit his DC after divorce. Or could be anything.

I think it's unlikely he'd make his presence so obvious if he was a criminal.

Thisyearhasflownby · 10/09/2023 20:11

@LessYappingMoreDoing He should go in a campsite.

OP posts:
Thisyearhasflownby · 10/09/2023 20:14

I haven’t contacted the local authority yet, I’m sure it’s not legal at all.
Its a brand new, shiny nice one, like a holiday one with an expensive bike on the back.
Just don’t like the fact I’ve not seen him and he’s opposite my house
