Man in caravan parked over the road

Would this creep you out?

We live in a holiday type place, fairly close to the beach (not U.K.)
But it’s a suburban area and a cul de sac
On and off for the last few weeks, a caravan has pulled up across the road and just parks there for days on end and then just goes until the next time.
I walked with my Dd and dog before and looked in the front window (driver part) and sort a man sort of dart into the back of the caravan.
I am a fairly anxious person about these sorts of things, I have a 5 year old and a few of Dds friends of a similar age on the street and I just don’t like it
Aibu?

I wouldn't mind if it was up the road, though I would be curious. If it was parked outside my house, well that is a different matter...

WandaWonder · 10/09/2023 22:28

A person lives in a caravan and that is creepy?

OK then

Do you mean a motorhome/campervan? Lots of people live in them now because they can’t afford housing.

If it is a caravan though, that’s odd.

I'm pretty sure you can park a motorhome on the street, subject to restrictions of any vehicle e.g. size, time limited etc., as it is road taxed. You might or might not be able to sleep in it, but you can certainly park it.
But you can't park a caravan so freely.

RantyAnty · 10/09/2023 22:36

Sounds like you need more to do OP.

ImWally6 · 10/09/2023 22:37

I'd be creeped out too and so would my sisters and friends.

I don't like when you said he ran away from the window.

Probably best keep a log on when it's there and the licence plate and keep your door locked and DD in the back garden for now. Maybe with winter approaching he may bugger off.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 10/09/2023 22:59

He’s probably just trying to save money by not going to the campsite.

It sounds annoying but probably nothing more. And tbh anyone creepy wouldn’t need to come by in a caravan and live there.

Not assuming he’s anything, but don’t like not knowing who he is..everyone knows each other in the neighbourhood…there are camp sites v v close and people park their vans by the beach, why go to a random quiet cul de sac, it’s just weird

I think you've answered your own question there - he probably likes the fact that it's more peaceful than an official site.

Rubiconmango · 10/09/2023 23:08

If everyone knows everyone that well, why don't a few men in your close knit community approach them politely but firmly to check in and see what they're about? Mn community can't really do anything on this one besides add to wild speculation!

If my gut spoke to me, I wouldn't sleep until I knew what they were about.

Why is someone parked opposite you more worrying to you than anyone camped in a "v v close"camsite? Can the people from the "v v close" campsites not walk to your cul de sac?

It seems to me you're saying you're worried about your 5 year old (without being able to give any clear reason why) when it's really the fact that they've made parking more difficult for you that's the problem.

And he's going to tell some random men exactly what he's about, is he? 😂

"Hi, thanks for knocking on my van. My name is Charlie and I'm an escaped convict who just wanted park opposite a house with a 5 year old kid. Oooh and can you lend me some teabags? I'm completely out".

Not that I'm saying he's an escaped convict before anyone gets me wrong, but what good is getting men to knock on his door going to actually do?

Thisyearhasflownby · 10/09/2023 23:41

The licence plate is from the country I live in, but writing/stickers on the van look like they’re written in Dutch perhaps

Really you have to ask? Sorry, I can't entertain such a basic literal mindset.

Really? When you want to intimidate a man that's minding his own business?

I'm not asking you to entertain anything.

I'm asking you to explain how these men are going to 'find out what he's about'?

You think the PP was talking about Neighbourhood Watch?

And I'm a little hard of thinking?

Oh you poor deluded thing! 😂😂

Thisyearhasflownby · 12/09/2023 13:25

He’s gone 🤷🏻‍♀️He seemed to leave late last night, hopefully won’t be back again in a few days or whatever, very odd
