She has d&v like I had the last couple of days. I have a training all day, what would you do ? Stay with her or go ? I was really sick with it at first. I don’t know what to do

I wouldn’t leave my child 16 or not . It’s wretched being ill alone.

where is her dad though?

HonoriaLucastaDelagardie · 09/09/2023 07:00

Blimey, I would be as conflicted as you. Is there another family member that can come over?

Don't suppose another family member wants to catch it.

She is 16 years old. She just projected vomiting everywhere in the bathroom :( I just feel bad I gave it to her.

Don’t go. My friend is having. Chemo. You wouldn’t even know it to look at her. But a bug could kill her. Think about others before you go in

I agree, and she’s still young. It’s horrible being sick, and being alone with something like norovirus can be scary- you can feel so unwell. And it’s so hot at the moment I’d be wanting to make sure she stayed hydrated.

If her dad can’t be with her, I’d stay home with her.

Fififafa · 09/09/2023 07:03

She’s 16 and you have to go to work. As long as she has water, it doesn’t matter if she doesn’t eat. Leave her dry snacks or fruit, Netflix and her phone with charger. She’ll cope until you get home, presumably the same evening. You can always phone or message throughout the day.

Megifer · 09/09/2023 07:16

At 16 she'll be fine just make sure she's got everything she needs, Imodium etc.

Assume the training is a work thing? If so I understand we can't all just not go to work for 48 hours even if you feel ok. Dont get to close to anyone, take hand gel and use it like mad, don't pick at the buffet with fingers, take a few cleaning wipes for the toilet in a sandwich bag etc and it will likely be fine. Weve all managed to dodge D and V bugs in the house when one has had it by just being over the top with hygiene for a day or two.

YearoftheRabbit23 · 09/09/2023 07:17

Please do a COVID test on both of you, more and more people are getting stomach bug symptoms with COVID, as discussed on the thread about the bride having D&V on Thursday before her wedding today.

Make sure to swab your cheeks and throat and nose.

Slippersandacuppatea · 09/09/2023 07:19

I wouldn’t want to leave a 16 year old to cope all day with feeling really rough and cleaning up puke etc although it is definitely reasonable to leave them when you have to work

But it doesn’t sound like you are out of the 48 hour free of symptoms yourself you ABU to go along if that’s the case as it’s clearly very contagious.

Could you ask for a Teams link and watch it remotely? So still ‘working’ but home just in case DD needs some support.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 09/09/2023 07:20

Don’t take Imodium for D&V.

how satisfied are you that you’re not contagious?

ilovesooty · 09/09/2023 07:28

If there's any chance you can infect others you shouldn't go.

However if you are well there's no reason to be staying at home with a 16 year old.

Cucucucu · 09/09/2023 07:43

She is 16 , she can stay in her own . Unless she has some special needs ?

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/09/2023 07:45

How far away are from home are you going to be? If you are 48 hours free of symptoms, I would go if not too far. I get you don’t want to. I have a 15 year old and I couldn’t leave her for health reasons with d&v, but presuming your dd is healthy, I’d try to get her some full sugar coke or lemonade and open them to go flat and dry biscuits etc.

Fizbosshoes · 09/09/2023 07:50

Not what you are asking but ice lollies are good if even water makes you sick. (And ideal in this weather as well)
Hope she is better soon

Sprogonthetyne · 09/09/2023 07:52

No 16yo wants somebody hovering outside the bathroom door when they're ill. That's peak 'everything's embarrassing' age.

ActDottie · 09/09/2023 07:57

She’s 16!!! Just go

PinkRoses1245 · 09/09/2023 07:59

If you feel ok; I’d go; she’ll be fine expect she’ll just want to stay in bed

A couple of public service announcements on the back of this:

You shouldn’t take Imodium for diahorrea caused by bugs - the body needs to expel the infection, so you prolong the illness by taking it.

Hand gel doesn’t kill norovirus - thorough hand washing is needed to physically remove germs from hands.

Tinkerbyebye · 09/09/2023 08:15

She’s 16!

go

Megifer · 09/09/2023 08:24

Interesting never knew that about hand gel/noro (if this is noro)! Must have washing our hands so much our fingerprints came off 😬

Normally I'd agree let virus run its course but it can be really miserable having both d and v to contend with at the same time. Pharmacist once recommended the imodium duo (dual?), it is pretty good at calming things and the cramping so you don't feel massively shite and chances of sharting when vomiting reduced Up to op to judge that one.

CherryCokeFanatic · 09/09/2023 08:24

What’s a training precious?

Megifer · 09/09/2023 08:26

As a side im still fuming that you can't get Pepto Bismol anymore, it's a miracle that stuff 😩

LollipopChaos · 09/09/2023 08:28

How many hours ago was YOUR last symptom?

Mariposista · 09/09/2023 08:28

People on here can be horrible. Focusing on ‘she’s 16’, banging on about covid and being contagious. Regardless of age, this type of illness is vile and can leave you very vulnerable. At 19 I had severe food poisoning and became so weak I collapsed in the bathroom trying to get to the loo. Fortunately it was uni holidays and was at home. So assess it yourself, if she is ok to sleep it off, go, and check in on her by phone every couple of hours. But the OP is not being unreasonable to wonder whether she ahould stay.
