I'm REALLY struggling in this heat. West Midlands.

I know we've barely had a summer and I know I should be enjoying this week but the amount I sweat is making me completely depressed. My hair is constantly wet, I have sweat running down my face as if it's raining, and I promise that is no exaggeration.

School run I could cry. It's so embarrassing being pouring of sweat, which then makes me sweat more I'm sure. It's nearly 1pm and the thought of the school run and being seen like this again is making tears come into my eyes.

Anyone who suffers from hair/face sweat, is there anything I can do?

I’m finding it hard in this heat. It’s not so much the heat it’s how humid it is. I hate feeling sticky all the time. It doesn’t help that I’ve been back and forth to school today. Dropping Ds1 and 2 in the morning, collecting ds2 at 11 as he’s doing settling in sessions at reception, then having to get him and baby ds3 out in the heat to collect ds1. All of us very hot and bothered this afternoon!

Unbelievable to me that many people wish for this weather all summer long.
My own mother last year said she missed the 40C heat. I sort of questioned at that point whether we were actually related.

I feel a lot healthier when the weather is hotter. My hrv on my fitbit increases and my sleep improves with a lot more rem and deep sleep. I rarely sweat.

When it is colder than 18 degrees my toes go numb and I always feel cold and sleep more poorly.

Not sure if it is down to body weight, mine is at the low end of healthy bmi and my blood pressure the low end of normal. Resting heart rate is also low.

I think I need to emigrate to the Mediterranean.

My toddler keeps wanting to lie on me. Make it stop!

Those that are sweaty working at a desk or sitting in a car… how do you go on when you exercise?!

The gym is fully air conditioned, as is the studio for the classes and the pool is cold.

Summer sucks, I don't know why anyone ever enjoys it

This is how I feel about autumn and winter!

TerrorOwls · 07/09/2023 21:58

I need a very cool shower before bed. So hot.
Windows open. Fan on.

TheLostNights · 07/09/2023 22:11

Don't know how we are meant to sleep tonight. Both windows flung open as wide as they go and it's still stifling 😔

bluewanda · 08/09/2023 01:53

Agree with others that it’s completely unbearable. I’ve got a really busy week and it’s impossible to get anything done without sweating buckets - so uncomfortable. I’m counting down the days until Tuesday!

It's quite warm and I took advantage of it to put my Ugg slippers through the wash and washed all the caravan carpets. Just using the fans in the bedroom and downstairs, haven't got the air conditioner out this year as not really hot enough, 26/27 in the bedroom last night, so not worth the roar of the aircon.

dontforgetme · 08/09/2023 11:07

To the people who suggested the Amazon neck fan.

I would kiss you if I could!!!!!

Was delivered at 10pm last night. Best thing I have ever purchased!

We have solar panels so to take advantage of the sunshine I have waterproofed mine and dhs raincoats, washed the floor mats, cleaned our welliebobs and oiled them (they are rubber and neoprene ones) and coated my walking boots in Dubbin.
I was, until the heatwave hit, painting our front door but it's been far too hot (south facing front) and sometimes humid for the paint for me to do it. I hope after Sunday I'll be able to finish it and get the new door furniture on.

As for ways to cope with the heat, especially at night, I have been using freezing gel usually used for sprains. It really cools down my feet especially which I find have been swelling a bit by the end of the day. A few nights ago I put too much on and was actually whispers too cold! We kept our bedroom door open last night which really helped with the heat build up (we are in a south facing room) with our dog. Also ran the dehumidifier before bed which I think helped. Also opened up the loft hatch to see if that takes away some of the heat.

Good luck to all of you suffering. Only 2 more nights🥵

@dontforgetme haven't read through all the tips but one from me: I cycle the school run and even though I actually love the heat it is unpleasantly warm atm and I get very very sweaty cycling. I take a cold shower before the school run and carry a Muslim soaked in cold water (sometimes I even put it in the freezer briefly) to wrap around my neck. This helps a lot.

I read this out to my friend (who is a Muslim) and she asked if you could soak her in cold water and put her in a freezer please

gannett · 08/09/2023 16:55

I love sweating when I exercise. Went for a run this morning and was drenched in sweat when I got back.

Sweating when I'm trying to make my way across London for a social event where I have to look vaguely presentable... I love that a lot less.

Ultimately I am much more into intense heat than endless miserable winter so I have to remind myself to enjoy it while I can, while literally rubbing ice cubes into my hair (this works, if you're at home).

TheLostNights · 08/09/2023 18:35

Nearly fainted earlier because of the extreme heat, didn't sleep at all last night. Both windows flung open but was like a absolute sauna. Just disgusting. This is what people wanted all summer. Bizarre.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2023 19:06

It's just awful weather. Hate it

ShadyPaws · 08/09/2023 20:14

Back in the metal cabin today
The workshop were moaning their AC was too cold
The rest of us were AngryAngryAngry

TheSoapyFrog · 08/09/2023 20:21

I am also this level of sweaty. Try Odaban. I forgot to get some, but it does help with the face sweats.
It's 33° here tomorrow apparently and I'm not sure I will survive!

frankie001 · 08/09/2023 20:40

Really struggling tonight. Have 2 fans in bedroom which are doing nowt. Was so strange being in shorts, drinking an iced drink and seeing Halloween every where in town earlier!

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 08/09/2023 21:03

Same here Ireland, was so hot out, had to walk to get a bus and no wind or shelter and waiting at bus stop forehead and neck so sticky and sweaty, but saw a few other people and their faces were dripping in sweat. It was so humid like a block of heat, got a booklet out of my handbag and fanned my face all the way into town on bus. Would love to have a sun umbrella but people would look at me as if am mad. But thankfully bank and shops had to go to were so quiet as everyone probably out 'enjoying' the sun and all had air conditioning. We got a taxi home as could not bare the intensity anymore of it. Happy when it is 18 degrees and a breeze. Am guessing as I get older and in peri-meno less able to tolerate heat. Do love when we get sunny but cold Autumn weather and clear blue skies my favourite weather and can wear my nice winter clothes but dislike the early dark evenings. Hope you have cooled down now and totally understand how you feel as it drains us.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 08/09/2023 21:04

Also for indoors keep curtains or blinds closed in the daytime so keeps the place cool.

jugggugg · 08/09/2023 21:10

Those that are sweaty working at a desk or sitting in a car… how do you go on when you exercise?!

I don't exercise in 32 degree heat

TheLostNights · 08/09/2023 22:07

Again, how can people enjoy this? I guess if they can afford air conditioning it makes it all a lot more comfortable? We cannot so are sweltering. London in a heatwave is absolutely vile. Yet a lot of people have wanted endless weeks of this weather. I honestly cannot wait until Monday when it is cooler. Tomorrow will be horrendous.

User16328715 · 08/09/2023 22:12

It's nowhere near as hot as last year, we had the air conditioner on for about a week, practically all day, we haven't even used it this year. House is 25c, we are in East Midlands/South East

Abracadabra12345 · 08/09/2023 22:12

Would love to have a sun umbrella but people would look at me as if am mad

But why? I was holding one and I heard a mum explaining to her child that it was to stop the sun burning me. Parasols are common in hot countries- which, sadly, we have become

User16328715 · 08/09/2023 22:14

DH went to the drag racing today with a parasol, some people had umbrellas he said
