I'm REALLY struggling in this heat. West Midlands.

I know we've barely had a summer and I know I should be enjoying this week but the amount I sweat is making me completely depressed. My hair is constantly wet, I have sweat running down my face as if it's raining, and I promise that is no exaggeration.

School run I could cry. It's so embarrassing being pouring of sweat, which then makes me sweat more I'm sure. It's nearly 1pm and the thought of the school run and being seen like this again is making tears come into my eyes.

Anyone who suffers from hair/face sweat, is there anything I can do?

Yes I hate this heat too. Its not what I signed up for, I'm British goddammit! 25 degrees is plenty. I'm considering a move to Scotland.

Hot and humid in Scotland too atm but being cooler is a plus sometimes

UnctuousUnicorns · 07/09/2023 17:02

A pleasant 23.5° on my thermostat atm. I have sometimes wondered if the increasingly hot weather down south would lead to more people moving up here. (DH and I are English, but have lived in Scotland for 27 years) Climate change migration? Sobering to think of, really.

StormzMe · 07/09/2023 17:05

@dontforgetme haven't read through all the tips but one from me: I cycle the school run and even though I actually love the heat it is unpleasantly warm atm and I get very very sweaty cycling. I take a cold shower before the school run and carry a Muslim soaked in cold water (sometimes I even put it in the freezer briefly) to wrap around my neck. This helps a lot.

Cadburysucks · 07/09/2023 17:10

Carry a cool bag with a couple of frozen blocks, and keep it next to your body when outside. Wear a hat as well as loose linen/cotton clothing. Agree this heat is too much but a welcome break from cold wind and rain throughout summer.

That's extremely nice of the Muslim.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 07/09/2023 17:11

Hi OP

Do you have a hot water bottle? fill it with cold water, stick it in the fridge (removing any fleecy cover). When cool use to cool yourself down and stick in your bed to cool the sheets down.

I'm counting the days down to next week.

That's a very disturbing autocarrot there. 😅

Let out a proper belly laugh at the freezer comment

I've just come down with a virus, thinking its COVID maybe. Having a temperature in this weather is no fun at all. 🤒

Summer sucks, I don't know why anyone ever enjoys it

I think the same about winter. Can't abide snow either. Don't know why anyone ever enjoys it.

hattie43 · 07/09/2023 17:26

29 here and wilting . Am working hard to keep the dogs cool

LuckySantangelo35 · 07/09/2023 17:27

Those that are sweaty working at a desk or sitting in a car… how do you go on when you exercise?!

NonMiDispiace · 07/09/2023 17:32

31° here on the edge of the Cotswolds, so humid and muggy. I have been awake since 4am, my head aches and I hate this weather.
I’m retired so luckily don’t actually have to do anything but got my hair chopped short this morning so I can keep it off my face and neck. Dog hates it too, DH says it doesn’t bother him 🙄
Going to have another cool shower shortly, drinking plenty but that ramps up my heart failure so can’t win! Ankles swollen and fingers too…roll on cool weather!

user9630721458 · 07/09/2023 17:37

It is hot, but so far I have not got to the point of putting people in freezers or draping them around my neck.

cardibach · 07/09/2023 17:38

MelodiousThunk · 07/09/2023 13:03

Didn't realise it was so hot up there. It's a lovely sunny day here (SE), about 29C which is perfect and really makes up for the crappy summer we've had, except for a couple of lovely weeks in June.

I love the heat. I really do. But 29 is hot. I enjoy it normally, but even while enjoying I would recognise it was hot. It’s the humidity that’s causing the issue I think. It’s quite uncomfortable even for a heat lover.

Flickersy · 07/09/2023 17:40

25° is hot and relatively normal for the UK.

29-33° is an extreme weather event for the UK.

I think my perfect temperature is about 22-24°. The current weather is very uncomfortable in your bog standard UK house with no pool or air con.

bonzaitree · 07/09/2023 17:44

I wet my hair in cold water and then leave it down to cool on my neck.

granted not a sexy look! But needs must!

FOJN · 07/09/2023 17:47

I share your pain. It's been high twenties, high humidity and cloudy here today so no sun to burn off the humidity and not breeze either. Today feels far hotter than the recorded temp. I was sweating like you describe at 7am this morning.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 07/09/2023 17:47

Roll on next week. This weather is awful. We've had a great summer of cool weather, this is the pits... I thought we'd got away with having no stupid hot weather this year...

MelodiousThunk · 07/09/2023 17:49

LuckySantangelo35 · 07/09/2023 17:27

I’m waiting until this evening to go out for my run. It cools off very quickly et this time of year even if it’s been warm during the day. Went out for long run yesterday evening and by 7pm it was only 24c.

Overitallnow · 07/09/2023 17:52

Get a neck fan. Got mine from Amazon. Worth every penny!

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/09/2023 18:03

@MelodiousThunk yep you exercise early or late. We were in France this July when it was 31 - 35 every day. Mr Monkey ran in the evening or early morning.

The problem with us in the UK is we never have to make many concessions for weather (hot or cold). You can't fight weather like this, so jast adapt your behaviour.

TheLostNights · 07/09/2023 18:44

Unbelievable to me that many people wish for this weather all summer long.
My own mother last year said she missed the 40C heat. I sort of questioned at that point whether we were actually related.

cardibach · 07/09/2023 18:46

uncomfortablydumb53 · 07/09/2023 14:25

I'm exactly the same
29 here and I feel dizzy nauseous and drained No sleep or appetite and I can't even stomach coffee
I identify with the sweating too, My hair is literally dripping and sweat runs into my eyes
Since menopause I literally don't sweat or have body hair anywhere else!

I have the same experience re body hair and sweat. Even though I’m on HRT, so it’s genuine heat not flushes.
