I am fucking melting

I'm REALLY struggling in this heat. West Midlands.

I know we've barely had a summer and I know I should be enjoying this week but the amount I sweat is making me completely depressed. My hair is constantly wet, I have sweat running down my face as if it's raining, and I promise that is no exaggeration.

School run I could cry. It's so embarrassing being pouring of sweat, which then makes me sweat more I'm sure. It's nearly 1pm and the thought of the school run and being seen like this again is making tears come into my eyes.

Anyone who suffers from hair/face sweat, is there anything I can do?

Again, how can people enjoy this?

I like the sun, I like dry heat. I do not like 31 degrees in sweaty London!!!!

bluewanda · 08/09/2023 22:38

It’s truly vile. I feel like I’ve been dripping with sweat all day. Only three more days (two disgustingly hot ones and Monday slightly better). Roll on Tuesday!!

29c is way to hot for some people. Me included.

Agree! This weather is awful! I just make sure I have tissues with me to constantly dab at my face and tie my hair back.

catscatscurrantscurrants · 08/09/2023 22:57

I don't cope well with the heat either OP. I wear light cotton clothes that don't fit tightly, close the curtains and windows on the side of the house where the sun is, carry a desk fan with me from room to room, drink at least 2 lt of water a day, cut down on the caffeine as it can increase heat intolerance. When it's really unbearable I have a shower as cold as I can stand it.

catscatscurrantscurrants · 08/09/2023 23:01

I had to travel down the length of the country on Wednesday and it was horrible, no respite from the sun and I was a sweaty mess! Anything over 20 degrees and I'm stuffed.

Asparagus1 · 08/09/2023 23:02

I hate it too, I’ve been day dreaming about snow today 😣

TheLostNights · 08/09/2023 23:13

I've been sitting in my bra and pants all evening because the house is so hot I can't tolerate any clothing. Last night was so unbearable, legs were sticking together, felt I was melting into the bed, stifling with no air. It makes me feel so irritable. Roll on Tuesday and please let that be the end of it.

fizzypop100 · 08/09/2023 23:19

Laid on the bed 11.15 p.m with 2 fans on. I don't like summer and this late hot weather is the final insult. It can bugger off asap.
I'm in the north, so must be a lot worse for those of you in the south?

TheLostNights · 08/09/2023 23:20

In London and it is bloody horrendous

KMA2023 · 08/09/2023 23:36

I don't sweat much except for my face and head. I have looked like a bloody water feature over the last two days.
I even have red skin from the constant wet face as you do when you have cried a lot.
Can't wait for Monday.

maddening · 08/09/2023 23:38

This is me 🤣😅😅😅

I am fucking melting
Trenda · 08/09/2023 23:52

Lying on top of my bed trying to get to sleep. I have a large fan blowing on me but the air is warm so im not getting any cooler
i went to get a glass of cold water and while i was in the bathroom i decided to soak my flannel and lightly wring it out. It felt so good on my hands and arms so i brought it back into the bedroom with me.

l sleep naked so i draped the flannel over my chest and neck but it didnt hit the spot . I then moved it to my lower stomach / groin area and the difference was phenomenal. 30 minutes later
and its still cold and i can feel the lower temperature throughout my body. Combined with the fan im almost comfortable.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/09/2023 23:59

I'm in wear midlands as well and it's been unbearable and I try not to complain about it. Went jogging at lunch time and had to walk after 3k it was awful. It feels like there is no air anywhere

ALongHardWinter · 09/09/2023 00:00

I'm in west London and it's been getting progressively hotter all this week. 32 yesterday and 33 today. I'm hating every bloody minute of it. Temperatures like this are not normal in the second week of September. I've had my tower fan on all night, every night for the last week. I'm fed up with pouring with sweat every time I exert myself in the slightest. My poor cat hates it (I think she holds me responsible for it!).And I hate it when the media rave about how wonderful it is. To my mind, the words 'enjoying', and 'basking' should not be appearing in the same sentence as '33 degree heat'! And I swear if I hear one more person say 'Isn't it lovely?' I shall not be responsible for my actions! Thank goodness it's predicted to cool down to 21 degrees on Tuesday next week. And no,I won't be complaining when it starts getting colder as winter approaches! I'd much rather be chilly than too hot any day.

LuckySantangelo35 · 09/09/2023 00:09

i am thoroughly enjoying it!!

It’s about time we got some heat after the shit show of a summer we have had

LuckySantangelo35 · 09/09/2023 00:12

And for those complaining…

would you rather be up in the morning in the freezing cold and dark de-icing your car?! Really?! No?!

Stop complaining then!!

Actually today I found myself rather looking forward to this 🥴

Pandasandflowers · 09/09/2023 00:39

Try not to worry about the sweat, I know it feels awful but there's really not a lot you can do.

Lots of cold water to drink, fans on, cold showers, nice light clothing. As someone else mentioned hair up is a must. Stay in shade where possible, just try and get home from school run quickly but not so much that you get more hot and bothered :)

Likely depends on what part of the UK you are in. I’m in SE England so hell yes!!!

The humidity even when cold makes it feel warmer than it actually is. It’s more wet here than icy during winter for the most part and you can at least put on layers if you’re cold. You can be naked in this heat and still be sweating.

Currently in the “cooler” part of the house with two fans going so we can sleep. Even my DH who runs cold is finding the heat too much.

Siwggy · 09/09/2023 00:53

My bedroom is 31C currently. Windows open, but no breeze. I've got the fan going all night and it does keep me relatively cool, so I can still have a bit of the duvet on me. I get myself cooled off first by laying on top of the covers in a just a tank top / vest and letting the fan blow on me. No knickers because my ass crack is pretty much continuously pooling with sweat.

I’m basically fanning my fanny for the first 10 mins to cool off and and then I'm good to sleep.

KatyKopykat · 09/09/2023 00:56

This week I saw a man wearing a shirt and v neck jumper, a girl in a woolly hat, a woman in jeans and a jumper (today) and a young lad wearing a hoody and a puffa jacket. How do they cope?

Pandasandflowers · 09/09/2023 00:57

@TheLostNights I'm going to do this, bra and pants. Sitting in a silk nightie I bought myself this summer but it feels like hell sticking to my body

TerrorOwls · 09/09/2023 01:02

I was out this evening and the weather is beautiful.
Walking along in light clothes and sandals. Having cool drinks. Everyone was in a good mood.
Gorgeous.

This is why many hot countries have a more active evening, with shops open til late and quiet afternoons. Indoors and siestas. So much more comfortable in the evenings.
