I am fucking melting

I'm REALLY struggling in this heat. West Midlands.

I know we've barely had a summer and I know I should be enjoying this week but the amount I sweat is making me completely depressed. My hair is constantly wet, I have sweat running down my face as if it's raining, and I promise that is no exaggeration.

School run I could cry. It's so embarrassing being pouring of sweat, which then makes me sweat more I'm sure. It's nearly 1pm and the thought of the school run and being seen like this again is making tears come into my eyes.

Anyone who suffers from hair/face sweat, is there anything I can do?

It's absolutely disgusting, I was putting washing away earlier (the only good thing is the line full of washing was dry by lunchtime so I could get it away before birds shat on it) and sweat was pouring down my face

All blinds are down to stop the sun burning in the house is like a bat cave but it's STILL hot

I'm another who hates summer, autumn is my favourite season

The only time I don't mind heat is if I'm lying reading on a sunlounger on holiday with a pool to sporadically go in to cool off in

It's horrible oppressive heat in the UK

Interesting the number of people saying they've had headaches I've had one nearly every day this week, including a few I've resorted to my hardcore tablets for. Didn't think today's was that bad so done ibuprofen and paracetamol but it increased and was pounding so I took to holding a hot water bottle against it as when I have bad ones I crave it - fortunately it's slightly cooler outside and I ordered too small a bottle this week to replace my leaking one, so it's size is actually quite handy.

MadCatLady27 · 09/09/2023 22:37

I'm another who can't sleep with windows open especially noise - mainly due to the fucking pests of flying rats that are seagulls flying round screaming non stop. We don't even live by the sea

Prepgrw · 09/09/2023 22:39

I am counting the days! It’s because we don’t get the in between temperatures no build up just wham straight up to 30/35. Lack of sleep, skin sticking to skin peel off clothes, I hate it but hopefully can soon moan about how cold it is!

bluewanda · 09/09/2023 22:39

Only one more day of this disgusting heat to go folks. Monday will also be warm but significantly cooler than today (-5C). Then from Tuesday it’s all gonna be A-OK!

We just can't have pleasant summer weather in this shit hole country, its either:

Option A - Cool, grey, overcast and damp.

Or

Option B - Viciously hot and oppressively humid.

We had some beautiful, pleasantly warm, sunny days in late May through to June and July. Sitting in my front garden, eating brunch, reading my book, while the bees hummed gently around the cotoneaster flowers, apple blossom, violets and other flowers, and the butterflies fluttered about. Made me glad to live where I do.

MillenialAvocado · 09/09/2023 23:00

Urgh this weather can do one. Seriously. I hate it so, so much. I don't even want to open the windows because of spider season, so I've been melting inside with the fans on.
It's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow where I am - 32 apparently 😩 I've been grumpy enough today!
I'm taking solace in the fact it will be Tuesday soon.

Wincher · 09/09/2023 23:19

Normally it's my DH who is more grumpy than me in the heat but right now I'm not coping (in London). We've just got new cats who can't go outside yet so having to keep all doors and big windows shut and little ones only open a crack. I know that does help to keep hot air out but it's hell not being to open everything in the evening. I've had all the bedroom windows wide open with doors shut but it doesn't help as there isn't a through draft. Just relying on fans! Poor cats are struggling too, they must think our house is always like this and where on earth have they come to live where it's always hellishly hot.

Flat cats screens are great. My cat likes a cooling mat, I've been keeping his food in the fridge and adding extra water, and also cold gel packs wrapped in a light tea towel

DH is doing a marathon today, it will be quite warm. Air conditioner is on at the moment, at least it's getting some use.

Webl · 10/09/2023 02:52

In London, have a newborn baby and room temperature is 30C. It’s hot, dry and no let up in this concrete jungle. I don’t know if it feels different on the coast but I don’t find anything enjoyable about this weather here.

i think to enjoy this type of weather you need either aircon, the coast or a pool or all three!

KnittedJimmyChoos · 10/09/2023 03:26

@MillenialAvocado
Indeed.

I usually always have it open but dare not.
I've woken up its 2 25 am and I've been battling, heat or spiders.... And the heat won and I've opened it.
Not that it's made much difference and I will shut it shortly.. One more day and night.

MixedCouple · 10/09/2023 04:32

Snap! I am an Autumn and Late Spring lover. July-Aug Nope Nope Nope.

My body doesn't agree with this heat despite coming from a country with a large desert 😂
Humidity makes it 20× worse

So loads of you love getting up in the cold and dark to de-ice your car! Who knew?!

I don't, I loved getting up at 6am to exercise in the garden this morning, perfect temperature. Just need to make the most of the cooler parts of the day.

When it is the usual miserable grey cold uk weather there are no nice parts of the day.

I am counting down the years to when I can move somewhere warmer.

Considering it’s a thread about struggling with the heat, not that surprising.

Plus, several have said that they don’t have a car, prefer it being colder because they can add layers and have hot drinks to stay warm and many who are in the warmer parts of the country don't get snow and ice enough that they have to deal with de-icing the car to the extent of hating hot weather.

This past winter, DH only had to scrape ice off the car windows twice so compared to this current weather, he definitely would take that over having sweat dripping down his face and arms to the point his sunscreen is going with and sweating through his clothes.

JFDIYOLO · 10/09/2023 09:15

What I love is a cold clear crisp autumn morning, blue sky, golden light, colour in the leaves, breath puffing out in white clouds, especially at sunrise walking to work as the colours change, I'm in boots, tailored coat, pretty pashmina, nice gloves, my face is non red, non sweaty, my hair is in curls not damp matted frizz, there are no bastard flies, no dust …

Perfect.

Today I've used ALL the hair products, up to here is sunblock, not even going to attempt anything more than mascara and lippie but I'm at an outdoor social and there will be photos …

Beargrumps22 · 10/09/2023 09:18

hot flushes as well make it really unbearable! I'm lucky my shop has the sun in the evening so it is not too bad and I have lots of fans on so people say my shop feels nice and cool
sorry for anyone pregnant both my now grown up babies were summer babies once it was so hot I ended up sitting in the kids paddling pool just for some cooling relief

There's a lot of variance between 32 degrees humid weather and de-icing your car.

Didn't you post this already?? You got lots of answers then.

Oakbeam · 10/09/2023 09:28

I think it’s fairly obvious that some people just cope with higher temperatures better than others so not surprising that there are disparate opinions.

I have always been able to cope with it, even as a small child. I was the one being dragged around Greek and Roman ruins in full summer heat by my father while my mother and sister were melting back at our accommodation.

It’s over 30 in my dining room now where I’m eating breakfast. We have air conditioning but it isn’t warm enough to need it. For us.

Besides, using it only contributes to the problem.

Upsizer · 10/09/2023 09:33

I do worry about what future summers will be like. Imagine if the jet stream had settled to the north of the UK earlier in the year - we’d have been sweltering the way Europe has been. Our houses are just not made for it.

I have one air conditioning unit but as soon as I turn it off the room gets hot again and I can’t have it on overnight as I’m in a terrace and only a couple of feet away from my neighbours’ bedroom - it’s too noisy!

lollipoprainbow · 10/09/2023 09:34

Hate it! Makes me feel drained, bad tempered and gives me a headache. Bring on the sunny autumn days with a nip in the air please.

ilovesooty · 10/09/2023 09:36

As it gets cooler next week we're forecast to be back to incessant rain here next week.

Bloody depressing.
