I'm REALLY struggling in this heat. West Midlands.

I know we've barely had a summer and I know I should be enjoying this week but the amount I sweat is making me completely depressed. My hair is constantly wet, I have sweat running down my face as if it's raining, and I promise that is no exaggeration.

School run I could cry. It's so embarrassing being pouring of sweat, which then makes me sweat more I'm sure. It's nearly 1pm and the thought of the school run and being seen like this again is making tears come into my eyes.

Anyone who suffers from hair/face sweat, is there anything I can do?

Im in Birmingham, currently 26 weeks pregnant and I hate the weather, too. My skin is always wet with sweat even at night and my feet are swollen.

ilovebagpuss · 09/09/2023 18:51

I have a very cold wet flannel draped over my face. It's grim.
I can't think of anything to help with the sweating. Hair up in a tight bun maybe a cool loose clothes. Cold water to sip. Hat.
I made the mistake of cleaning the bathroom and was sweating for about 45 mins after.

ragin · 09/09/2023 19:03

@Chickenkeev I am awful altogether - That saying really brought back memories of my grandma. 😭

I know what you mean, I do like the look of sunny weather, just not the reality of it. 😂

I made this mistake too. Only not just cleaning, but plunging the sink which has needed doing for ages. Thought I was going to collapse!

Loving this heat! The hotter the better ! Wfh so make that ice lollies and pool in garden (with laptop on of course !) Enjoy it !

Fine for you. Maybe spare a thought for people who don’t work from home on their laptop, and don’t have a pool?

pigsDOfly · 09/09/2023 19:43

The whole of the back 'wall' of my living room is glass and the sun hits straight onto it, it was 27.5 degrees in my living room this afternoon.

I had the binds down, the curtains drawn and a fan going all day, otherwise it would have been even hotter.

Tbh, I've done nothing much all day today, just kept to doing things that require very little movement.

The dog has just lazed around all day doing her best to keep cool. She sensibly kept upstairs for a good part of the day where the house is cooler.

I'm in the SE and the forecast is that it'll be very hot until about Tuesday, although, it's still going to be warm thereafter.

Hate it, it makes me feel tired and washed out, and I seem to have a permanent, low level headache the whole time.

i've just ordered the Meaco fan somebody recommended earlier. Collecting tomorrow

Anonymouseposter · 09/09/2023 20:03

I have just got off a train with broken air conditioning 🥵🥵

Me too. I'd love a great big thunderstorm and rain (though not flooding of course). I wish temperatures would just drop down ffs.

Of course it would all be fine if I wfh, had a pool and made ice lollies 🙄

It's chucking it down here now!

Positive41 · 09/09/2023 20:15

I hate this weather.

Can't sleep. Kids have the fans in their bedrooms whilst my fat ass is roasting downstairs. Let this stop!

Yants · 09/09/2023 20:24

We just can't have pleasant summer weather in this shit hole country, its either:

Option A - Cool, grey, overcast and damp.

Or

Option B - Viciously hot and oppressively humid.

Chicknpan · 09/09/2023 20:33

That has literally been our summer this year with just a few 'nice' days in between the heatwave in June, the shitting rain ad wind and now this heatwave.. It's been a crap summer.

IDriveMySupernova · 09/09/2023 20:56

One upside of the current temperature in my flat is that my bar of dark chocolate is at perfect eating temperature. But unfortunately there’s only one square left.

creamedcustard · 09/09/2023 20:56

High humidity! That explains why the t-shirts I've had on the line all afternoon in full sun still had damp collars when I took them in just now. I couldn't understand it.
I would swap dripping sweat for what I get in hot weather - tight chest, fast pulse, breathlessness, heavy legs etc. I can't seem to sweat properly and think I've got shit circulation.

Whereabouts (roughly) are you? Hoping somewhere near me!!

cushioncovers · 09/09/2023 21:02

I'm on sertraline, menopausal and fat I've had enough and bought an air conditioning unit.

JimnJoyce · 09/09/2023 21:23

i've a migraine coming on due to the high pressure Sad

CrunchyCarrot · 09/09/2023 21:30

Ooof way too hot here, another one in the West Midlands. Just no movement of air! Bedroom temp 25C. Can hear distant fireworks. Was hoping it was thunder but nope.

I don't cope well with the heat, not since having hypothyroidism. Easily feel exhausted and ill with it. My cat has decamped to the great outdoors, only see him briefly for meals! Don't blame him.

CyberCritical · 09/09/2023 21:37

I've got a new bed arriving on Tuesday and need to finish redecorating the room before it arrives so I've spent the day stripping wallpaper, painting and re-papering. Sweat literally dripping off me as I worked. Have to pull up the old carpet tomorrow and put down new flooring so anticipating another sweat lodge experience.

glossypeach · 09/09/2023 21:40

I hate this heat. It causes my arthritis and asthma to worsen. My sons eczema also gets worse in the heat. I’m all hot and bothered and miserable in this weather. I cannot wait for it to get colder again as that’s when I thrive.

Oakbeam · 09/09/2023 21:57

Bedroom temp 25C

That is lower than our aircon is set to.

I've had two migraines this week because of the heat.

TinaTeaspoons · 09/09/2023 22:18

23C here now. What a horrible day.
It's physically and mentally draining trying to keep cool and well. Kids have been mega irritable too. Nights of broken sleep and not being able to stay cool. Many people don't have air conditioning, pools or the ability to WFH. As I mentioned, DH has arthritis as well and because of his meds is more intolerant to heat so all all this you should love it, make the most of it etc is enough to drive anyone insane.
I'm hoping Monday is the end of it and that it's back to normal temperatures as this is disgusting.
