Found something DISGUSTING in my clean washing

went to put a tshirt on my DS this morning and it was a bit stinky. Put it back in the bag with the other clean washing and went on with the day.

We’ve just Spent a week in Cornwall but I washed and dried most of our clothes before we left so it was a carrier bag containing clean clothes belonging to DS.

the more I looked into the bag the worst the smell got. It stank of rotting fish.

I got to the bottom to find a carrier bag of DDs rocks and shells from the beaches containing 2 mussels which must’ve been alive when they went in but were open and rotting in the 27 degree weather we’ve had for the last few days since returning.

mortified that it’s been sat in my room for days and the smell was horrific Blush

please feel free to share anything disgusting you’ve found to make me feel less gross about my find!!

I once walked around all day wearing boots. One felt a bit funny but I just thought they were getting a bit small… got home took them off and a VERY dead mouse fell out of one! Thankyou cat for that.

@Briandouglas
😂that made my day - thanks.

Muu · 07/09/2023 06:47

@Briandouglas you win. If anyone can beat that, I don’t want to know.😄

We ate a load of prawns (the type you have to de-shell) and I told DH to put the empty shells, heads etc in a bin bag so they could go straight into the outside bin, which he did.

A couple of weeks later, there was an absolutely horrible smell in the living room, like a combination of rubbish dump and rotting corpses, which wouldn’t go no matter how much we aired the room. Eventually I found the source of the smell - the bin bag of old prawns under the sofa 🤮

Rotten potatoes also stink to high heaven as I once discovered (DH threw out or cleaned everything around them without spotting the problem 🙈)

heldinadream · 07/09/2023 06:48

Not disgusting but my fave funny story, friend of mine was chairing a meeting at work, it was a circle of chairs type thing. She had yesterday's jeans on and her legs crossed and was jiggling her foot as some people do. And out the leg of her jeans wriggled her pants from the day before in full view of all colleagues! 😂

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 07/09/2023 06:53

Mrs Grumpy emptied the pockets of her dressing gown before washing it once and discovered a desiccated back end of a mouse. We could only assume that one of the cats had half eaten it, popped it somewhere safe for later and then forgotten about it

muddlingthrou · 07/09/2023 06:54

My 18 mo took a swig from an opaque cup with a top yesterday then immediately scrunched her face up and dropped the cup. It turns out it was full of off milk from lord knows when. The milk was completely solid when I ripped it out and reeked to high heaven 🤢

FlamingoQueen · 07/09/2023 06:57

My dd (was about 7) put ‘shells’ from the beach in my handbag.

About 2 weeks later there was a funny smell that took me longer to work out where it was coming from. I had to bin my handbag as it never fully recovered from the smell. That was a mussel.

Was a lovely handbag too (not a posh one hence it going to the beach, but a nice one!).

Same thing happened to me as a child! We used to keep out wellington boots in the old coal hole outside the house. One wet morning, I wore my wellingtons to school but forgot to take some shoes so had to wear them inside. I was in the orchestra sat at the front of the school hall when my foot began to itch so I took off my boot to have a good scratch - I was only 6 or 7 years old so no inhibitions. To my horror, a little mouse ran out of my boot and across the hall floor towards the children sat on the floor. Chaos ensued as I screamed with little reception aged children jumping around and a little mouse darting around frantically trying to escape! The assembly ended being cancelled and I had to wait in the Heads office for my mum to bring me some shoes to wear.

We were moving some patio furniture at the weekend and were hit with a horrific stench. Then we saw a decomposing rat that had been stuck underneath. I scooped it up with a spade and thousands of maggots spilled out of it on to the tiles. Absolutely thousands, must have stuffed full of them.

That needs blurring and click on it only 🤢

Came downstairs one morning to half a mouse. Thanks Dcat - standard.
Few hours later, waving goodbye to DH as he went off to work, I noticed a weird shadow on the living room curtains.
I pulled them back to find vomit. Cat vomit including the rest of the mouse, up the curtain, on the windowsill and down between the two sides of the radiator. The radiator sits behind a huge sofa so I had to pull it all out to clean it. I've a tough stomach, not much makes me retch but fuck, that was a tough hour cleaning. Trying to find something I could poke down between the radiator sides to clean the dessicated half vommed mouse.

When I was a kid we were on holiday at the seaside. There was an awful smell in the caravan towards the end of the week but we couldn't track it down.

On the way home the car stunk to high heaven and everyone was so confused where it was coming from.

When we got home and unpacked we found that my younger sister had taken a massive dead crab from the beach and stashed it in the pocket of a rucksack and it had been slowly rotting 🤮

My youngests (16) football kit bag. He's a ref, so does quite a few games, so needs his kit washed regularly.

Opened the bag to find his football boots in there, along with a sweaty kit. His feet absolutely honk and I almost threw up!!!

Love it when the first reply sets the bar high 🤣

It'll take a bit to top that one.

How mortifying!!

trulyunruly01 · 07/09/2023 07:18

DD had a dead cockroach in her makeup bag when she returned from holiday one year. We think it perished in the luggage hold.

cashmerecardigans · 07/09/2023 07:19

Thanks for this. It's just reminded me that I was super organised and put my washing on last night, timed to finish this morning. I've just got on a train to go to an all day conference and realised I've left it in the machine. 🙄

HurdyGurdy19 · 07/09/2023 07:19

I was pegging a load of washing on the line, and found a dead bird amongst it. 😒

We figured out that the neighbour's cat, who was forever in our house, had caught it and left it on our kitchen floor (which is exactly why I refuse to have cats - I hate finding their gifts in the house). Someone had then dumped a load of laundry on top of it, and it had got scooped up with some clothes and into the washing machine.

I just hope the poor thing was dead before going into the washing machine.

SkySecret · 07/09/2023 07:20

Why would you take sealed mussels from the beach? Do you not teach your kids that sealed shells have live creatures in them? …..

DoubleHelix79 · 07/09/2023 07:21

When I was about 5 or 6 I collected a lot of 'snail shells' on a playground. I left them in my dad's car and when we returned the next day the very much alive snails had crawled all over the car, leaving slimy trails everywhere.

Watchkeys · 07/09/2023 07:25

On the subject of smells, my dog ate some cat poo once, then threw up in the back of the car a few hours later. There was nothing I could do because I was on the motorway, I just had to accept what had happened and keep driving until I could pull over. It nearly killed me. If I hadn't had a waterproof cover on the back seat to catch the mess, I would have probably scrapped the car.

I love my dog, but if I think of that, I still can't look at her.

isthismylifenow · 07/09/2023 07:26

I woke up one morning, went to put the kettle on and smelt this almighty stench as I approached the kitchen.

In those days I kept my eggs in my food cupboard. One of the batch was clearly very off and had exploded during the night. It smelt disgusting, and looked it too. I had to clean green off raw egg out of my cupboard, it took a while for the smell to competely go away.

They are kept in the fridge now and properly rotated.

goodnightkiwi · 07/09/2023 07:26

Found a dead, rotting, maggot infested rat in the spare bed at 3am after returning from a 2 week holiday to Aussie. Saw the cat drag it in the night before we left and I asked DH to remove it. He forgot - plonker. Maggots everywhere but mainly they had found a very nice home in the pure wool underlay.
