Found something DISGUSTING in my clean washing

Millenialmom · 06/09/2023 22:40

went to put a tshirt on my DS this morning and it was a bit stinky. Put it back in the bag with the other clean washing and went on with the day.

We’ve just Spent a week in Cornwall but I washed and dried most of our clothes before we left so it was a carrier bag containing clean clothes belonging to DS.

the more I looked into the bag the worst the smell got. It stank of rotting fish.

I got to the bottom to find a carrier bag of DDs rocks and shells from the beaches containing 2 mussels which must’ve been alive when they went in but were open and rotting in the 27 degree weather we’ve had for the last few days since returning.

mortified that it’s been sat in my room for days and the smell was horrific Blush

please feel free to share anything disgusting you’ve found to make me feel less gross about my find!!

There was the time my poor mum scooped up the liver she was thawing for dinner with the wash. When she went to pull out the ‘clean’ clothes she got a handful of liver. She panicked for a moment thinking the cat had fallen in.

Come to think of it that wasn’t her only liver catastrophe over the years. I think the other was a cut of liver that she’d taken out to thaw and my sister put it back in the freezer. Thinking she had forgotten to take it the next day she took it out again,,, sister puts it back. By the third day of thaw and refreeze… the liver was rank and putrid.

Millenialmom · 07/09/2023 20:46

do you eat meat? You realise all over the world mussels are a delicacy?

You do realise mussels aren’t sentient beings? They don’t have any thought process and don’t feel pain. (As it happens I’d never given this much thought before but did google it when I discovered them buried in the clothes!)

I didn’t pack a seagull and a dolphin in our cases.

My children obviously didn’t realise it was something living and if I had realised I’d have obviously left it behind rather than having to re wash clean clothes 3 times and endure the stench.

I found a semi-dried cat turd under my stairs WEEKS after the cat deposited it. I had been smelling it intermittently all that time but couldn’t find it and managed to convince myself I was imagining it.

mrsfeatherbottom · 07/09/2023 22:36

When DD was at nursery they did the usual painting a hard boiled egg at Easter. I put it in my handbag wrapped in kitchen roll as she wanted to take it to show my mum. I promptly forgot about it until weeks later when I must have banged against it and all of a sudden there was the most horrendous smell in the car. Took a while to work out what it was and much longer to get the smell out of my nostrils.

AdoraBell · 07/09/2023 22:42

We moved about 18 months ago, new build in a rural area. SW, damp weather in early spring. I put my boots on and while in the car thought I felt something wriggling. I wasn’t driving so when it happened again I took my boot off and upended it. A small toad fell out.

PaperwhiteTheGhost · 07/09/2023 22:58

My Nana broke her leg and went into hospital in the middle of summer 2020. I went to her house 2 weeks later to pack for her when she went into rehab- all was well. Emptied the fridge and bins, cleaned out the kettle etc.

Went back to collect post and some more bits a couple of weeks later. Walked in to an unholy stench. Took ages to track it down but finally looked in a cupboard and found a sprouting, dripping, rotting potato and an equally rotting red onion that I hadn't thought to chuck out. They looked like they might come alive in the night and the smell was unreal!

Had to stay for ages mopping up the juice and airing the place 🤢

MonkeypuzzleClimber · 07/09/2023 23:06

My mum had a dead pigeon in the cold water tank in her loft. She didn’t find out until it was all soupy and feathers started coming through the bathroom taps. We’d brushed our teeth with that water 🤢🤢🤢

We couldn’t work out where the revolting smell in the utility room was coming from, searched everywhere except…..my wellies. I had bare feet, put them on to take the dog for a walk and a cat (we don’t have cats but neighbours do) had crapped in one 🤢🤮

🤣🤣🤣

1daughterand3sons · 08/09/2023 00:09

There was a foul smell in DDS room she was around 5 couldn't figure it out the smell was getting worse over the days.
So I decided I would look in anything that things could be hidden in. Opened DDS play til and the smell was crazy rotting mince and pasta.

oh my christ

you just reminded me that I put a poo bag with poo in it in my dog walking bag a couple of days ago

Oh my fucking lord 🤦🏼‍♀️

I’ve forgotten AGAIN

Worst story I heard was someone living in a warm part of the States on a public transport route; she had a car, but only took out at weekends for shopping and the like. Once, a package of meat dislodged itself from the shopping bad and rolled under the passenger seat…. And stayed there for five days in the heat….. Oh dear.

We had a neighborhood fox bury eggs in our garden for later. Thought we had found them all, but dog found one that must have been 9 months old. I saw him pick it up, I ran to stop him, but he bit it... OMG the stench. He was hosed down, he was bathed, had to get some stuff from the groomer to get rid of the pong, he still smelled for a week or more. He spent a lot of time outdoors that summer!

This has just reminded me of when I done similar. I was very young, must've been around 5 or 6 and was on a caravan holiday park with family. Found an egg and picked it up which then cracked it and oh my god the stench! My mum was in the little shop on the site a couple of minutes walks away and said she heard my scream from there.
Multiple baths later I still stunk Grin

hittingtheshelves · 08/09/2023 06:55

DD didn't make it to the loo in time and a poo rolled into her wellies. My DH cleaned her up but didn't notice the rouge wellie poo. She stomped around in it all day. Got poo everywhere in our tent. It wasn't until a few weeks later we realised it was in the welly. They were then chucked but stunk to high heaven. Kids are gross.

8misskitty8 · 08/09/2023 07:09

There was a horrific smell in DD’s room. We traced it to under the bed, moved everything out but couldn’t find anything.

I then opened her jewellery box that had been under there. It was full of snails !
Dd had been taking them from the garden and they where her ‘pets’
Jewellery box was chucked and the room bleached.

It's literally just a photo of maggots!

It’s ‘literally’ a borderline phobia.

CharlotteBog · 08/09/2023 09:53

This is not so much a tale of disgust, but a warning.

Neighbour Samantha noticed lots of blue bottle flies in another neighbour's home (John). nb not their real names.

John was not at home. Thinking he was dead she called the police who bashed down the door.
I arrived home to find neighbour's and police at his house, and could then explain that John was in fact abroad. As the only neighbour with his number, I then had to call him and explain that the police had broken down his door. The police made the house safe but John had to arrange for a new door to be fitted while he was away (i.e. massive and unnecessary pain).

I went in to see what was enticing the flies and found a banana left on the side. That's all. It was very warm and the flies had had a bit of an orgy.

Samantha is known for being a bit dramatic. She knows I know John well yet didn't think to call me before calling the police.

hookiewookie29 · 08/09/2023 10:23

Once had an awful smell in the cupboard under the stairs. Couldn't locate it and it gradually got worse. We had a small chest freezer in there, and in the end we had to resort to pulling the freezer out to see if we could find anything.....
Bag of long defrosted sausages, crawling with maggots....
Not a lot makes me heave but that was bloody grim!

Pebblesflintstoneandbambamrubble · 08/09/2023 10:40

I mentioned this thread to my son (he of 1000 book bags in primary school and a mucky little oik)

He told me of the time he let a work colleague move into his flat for a month while she was between places to stay

He has a dog-and she moved in with a cat

All rubbed along together the whole time, colleague and cat finally moved out and he noticed a whiff what was getting stronger

In desperation he ripped the flat apart thinking it could have been a dead animal or something somewhere

Found nothing until he opened a cupboard door-he only used this cupboard to store the pans/bowls/small plates/random tat he never used-the cats final goodbye was at least 3 wees in one of the bowls-it had overflowed all over the floor of this cupboard and soaked in

It was enough to strip the lining from your lungs-and he couldn't get rid of the cupboard

It took god knows how many bottles of urine neutraliser to finally get rid (I still think I can smell it)

We joke the cat didn't want to leave-it had done it on the last day (we think or the smell would have been found sooner) but they had been talking about going on a date together-he won't in case it gets serious and she moves in with moggy!

My neighbour’s cat balances on their fence and craps into the hanging baskets below, not obvious until neighbour checks how dry the compost is….😵‍💫🤢
It also crochet over the edge of the bath, washbasin, kitchen sink etc.

That’s one clever crocheting cat 😂

Having worked in a Hepatic/liver setting in a hospital I cannot fathom how people can consume liver for their dinner. If only people could see what I’ve seen no one would ever eat it again. It is 🤮

I presume you are seeing diseased livers though?

I can't stand the thought or smell of it so it's a moot point for me, but isn't it very nutritious?

Treaclewell · 08/09/2023 12:09

Not a sight revolting sight or smell, but it made me heave (and as a primary teacher I'd seen many a heave worthy sight). I'd bought a new place, but still had my old one, and had a good think about my cooker. I liked the old one, which had a slow cook feature, but thought the one in my new home, with a ceramic hob had attractions. Eventually went with the old one, and engaged tradesmen to do the swap. And underneath the ceramic topped one, was a mass of black dog hairs. I can still see it. Not dirty or anything, but hairs. And I heaved. I'd had to have the carpets cleaned for the doggy smell, but that was just normal dog, and the rest of the house was OK. Bur that hair.

bluebellsanddaisies23 · 08/09/2023 12:12

I had a just done a load of washing and we were going to MIL's house, so I popped it all in a black bin bag so I could get it all dried when we were at her house. Fast forward the next day and I ask DH where the washing was (he assured me on the way down that he would get it all dried). Turns out, he put my washing in the BIN at home and picked up the actual bin bag full of rubbish and brought that down to MIL's house and left it in the car overnight...

Icannoteven · 08/09/2023 12:31

My partner and I picked up my daughter from nursery one day. She was very quiet on the drive home and when I turned around to see what she was up to she was putting something green in her mouth. On further inspection in transpired that her sister had left an old packed lunch in the car (probably for a few weeks) which she had managed to find, unzip and help herself to ……well……what originally must have been a cheese sandwich but was now nothing but a dusty block of green-blue mild. Yum.

Same child: I moved our sofa last week to clean the carpet underneath and noticed there was some sort of speckle dirt all along the back. Rubbing at it ineffectually with a cloth I suddenly realise that it’s hundreds of snots 🤢. The little bugger has been picking her nose and wiping it down the back of the sofa.

Then there was the mouse. DCat left a mouse for dead on the patio. As I was picking it up and bagging it ready for the bin, a knock on the door distracted me. A few weeks later, at the height of summer, there is a terrible smell near our back door. Following my nose outside I find basically a bag of liquified, maggoty mouse remains that had been left fermenting in the sun. Lovely.
