Found something DISGUSTING in my clean washing

Millenialmom · 06/09/2023 22:40

went to put a tshirt on my DS this morning and it was a bit stinky. Put it back in the bag with the other clean washing and went on with the day.

We’ve just Spent a week in Cornwall but I washed and dried most of our clothes before we left so it was a carrier bag containing clean clothes belonging to DS.

the more I looked into the bag the worst the smell got. It stank of rotting fish.

I got to the bottom to find a carrier bag of DDs rocks and shells from the beaches containing 2 mussels which must’ve been alive when they went in but were open and rotting in the 27 degree weather we’ve had for the last few days since returning.

mortified that it’s been sat in my room for days and the smell was horrific Blush

please feel free to share anything disgusting you’ve found to make me feel less gross about my find!!

Went to visit family in Ireland, left car door open overnight, headed away first thing, 3 hour drive to Ferry, then 3 hour drive home.
10 mins into drive realised a feral cat had sprayed inside the car, absolutely stinking. Stopped at supermarket, bought dettol, febreze & various other cleaning items. Car still stinking. Totally paranoid we were all reeking on the ferry.
Phoned every local valet place & had up bring car next day to be deep cleaned. Was the worst drive ever.

If you've ever looked at the back of a fridge you'll know there's often open parts at the bottom with wires cables and the cooling bits. Now imagine hundreds of mouse poos all over and inside the crevices. Had to drag it outside to hose them off. I've a strong stomach but it was horrendous. We are now thankfully mouse free.

This is why I prefer integrated appliances - fewer crevices and crannies.

Holy shit, I'm trying not to vomit into my own handbag. This made me laugh and cry at the same time.

A nappy with a solid shite in it. So there was poo and nappy crystals in my washing.

That was not fun to wash.

In your case I'd do a pre rinse for all the smelly clothes, then wash them with a bio powder and laundry cleanser to get rid of the smell. May take a few washes but it should go

This reminds me of something that happened to my mum. She was a primary school teacher and helping dress the children for a stage production. She discovered the previous wearer of one costume had evidently been very nervous.

My youngests (16) football kit bag. He's a ref, so does quite a few games, so needs his kit washed regularly.

Opened the bag to find his football boots in there, along with a sweaty kit. His feet absolutely honk and I almost threw up!!!

needs his kit washed regularly?
No - needs to learn how to use the washing machine

TakenUpTheOxoTower · 07/09/2023 11:06

A bag of dog poo! 😩

Had a very heavy fleece that I used for dog walking - but only if weather was horrendous… for some reason (probably wrestling idiot dog on to lead). I must have put the knotted bag in the fleece pocket.
Put the fleece on in the spring, shoved hand in pocket to check for poo bags … found a poo bag alright- already filled with 5 month old poo!🤮

I went on a residential school trip when I was about 9 or 10 and found a fairly large, completely whole dead crab on the beach. I thought it was really interesting, so I put it into a plastic bag and brought it home with me in my suitcase. By the time I was back home and my mum was opening up my case to put my stuff in the wash, it absolutely reeked.

I think, at the time, I thought it would just kind of dry out. Any crab shells I'd seen/found before on beaches had been empty and pretty much clean, but it hadn't really registered with me that that was only because they'd been in the sea getting picked clean by other creatures and getting washed and weathered by sea water, wind and sun for months. The whole crab I'd found had probably only been dead about an hour when I popped it into my bag.

Our kitchen smelt a bit like poo for a few days. A plumber came round to unblock the downstairs loo- there was a rimblock stuck in the u bend and we both commented it smelled a bit and was maybe coming from there. A few days later I found a bag of potatoes in a cupboard rotting with all liquid at the bottom 🙈🤢
Another one- Amazon delivered a box of car food but a couple of the pouches had come open. I threw those away and checked the others and they seemed fine and we threw them in a carrier bag. DD feeds the cat and had been taking one out every day. I looked in the bag to check if we needed more and the bag stunk of cat food. I delved deeper and there was one at the bottom and loads of maggots crawling around. The whole bag went in the bin. Luckily Amazon had refunded me for the lot anyway when I reported the split packets.
Last one- we lived in a house that had bins that weren't wheelie bins. Previous tenants had left a carrier bag at the bottom and when I went to get it out it was an old nappy. The bin had human waste all at the bottom and I had to clean it out sewage and all

Went to France as a 12 YO with school and bought a Camembert for my mum. On the first day of about 5. There was nowhere to store it, so I took the stinkiest cheese home nestled carefully in my clothes. Mum thanked me but didn't eat it Grin

Not disgusting but...mum used to make massive glass jars of pickled onions every Christmas to gift to her dad who loved them. Will never forget when one of the jars broke in the boot of the car, the smell never went away. I'm not even sure what happened to that car if I'm honest.

Helping a heavily pregnant friend out by tidying and cleaning for her, found a spilled milk bottle from god knows how long ago. She was hugely embarrassed - but as I said she was heavily pregnant and had toddler twins so she just couldn't find it! Unfortunately it had seeped into the carpet so was not easy to get out!

Most recently, DH insisted he had removed everything from the fridge to find the source of the nasty smell and had cleaned everything before it went back in. Now I could smell the cleaner he'd used, but the nasty mouldy smell was also still there.

Reader, it was a bowl of baked beans that was cultivating some rather splendid green mould, not hidden, just on the top shelf. It was horrible. Once it was gone of course the smell went away, but DH was embarrassed he got caught in a lazy lie!

That needs blurring and click on it only 🤢

No it doesn't. Don't go into threads with DISGUSTING in the title if you are easily disgusted...it's really not that difficult.

What's your AIBU OP?

You are being unreasonable to not teach your kids not to take living creatures from the beach.

Scalottia · 07/09/2023 11:23

PureAmazonian · 07/09/2023 09:19

There's always one.

One what? A person who cares about living creatures? Thank god we aren't all as non-caring as you seem to be.

Willygogs · 07/09/2023 11:25

Been cooking a joint of meat in the slow cooker, took the meat out, and poured the fat into an empty coke can.
A few hours later DH took a drink from said can
@😂

My 9 year old found a putrifying mouse under the laundry basket in his bedroom which was covered in maggots. Patently the cat had bought it in but when I tried to clean it all up it sort of melted into my hands! Euughhhhh

So looks like it had been there for a long while and I'd failed to notice all summer!

Whataretalkingabout · 07/09/2023 11:30

Had a roll down electric operated aluminum shutter in my work studio in France. Only closed it when gone for a few days. Discovered a strange smell that was getting progressively worse after a few weeks but couldn't find the source. Leaving again for a weekend away I flipped the switch and a disgusting rotting huge snake fell out of the roller blind. Had to clean inside and outside of the huge window and shutter, including the goo filled tracks that held the shutter in place. Yech!

orangecreamdream · 07/09/2023 11:31

I once opened my washing machine and noticed that there was some fluff/debris stuck in the rubber seal, stuck my fingers in to remove and it turned out to be a disintegrating maggot infested mouse... now al over my fingers. I'm still traumatised from that!

TeeBee · 07/09/2023 11:33

OP, I once found the same but in the bottom of my handbag. My kitchen was stinking for days until I found where it was coming from. Boys collecting 'treasure' from the beach :-D

I’m actually not easily disgusted but those little bastards make my Fanny go funny and make me retch 😂

Hereforthedramaz · 07/09/2023 11:36

My SIL was feeding her toddler bolognese at the kitchen table, it came straight back up again so she grabbed a bowl.

It got left on the kitchen table and an unrelated BIL came along and ate it all (again).

I'm all fairness it shouldn't have been left but the thought of it still makes me feel sick

WollyParton · 07/09/2023 11:38

Not my photo, but my boyfriend at the time ordered a Chinese takeaway and found this poor little mouse which must have fallen in to the deep fat fryer. He didn’t order food from there again!

KnottyKnitting · 07/09/2023 11:39

My sister was helping me with the washing up after Christmas dinner one year. She thought that one of the serving dishes was clean and put it in a cupboard we don't use much.

The next time we used this serving dish some two months later we were hit by an ungodly stench from the Christmas dinner left over sprouts which were merrily growing the cure for something!

lalaloopsy83 · 07/09/2023 11:40

When I was younger, my granny spent the whole day looking for her set of false teeth....I had them under my pillow since the night before waiting on the tooth fairy 🙈🤣

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 07/09/2023 11:42

I went on holiday for two weeks, having somehow forgotten I'd defrosted some chicken in the microwave and so left it there........the smell was horrendous

Ovasaurus · 07/09/2023 11:47

I grew up very remote and as such we relied on rain water tanks for drinking. I complained for a week that the water tasted funny and was told the water was fine....eventually my dad investigated and scooped a very large decomposing possum out of the tank.
Possum soup-I still remember the taste.

MisdemeanorOnTheFloor · 07/09/2023 11:53

Horrific smell in my house once, which my husband insisted was just blocked drains. It got worse and worse, and then the tiny flies appeared.
I eventually isolated the smell to a trundle bed in the spare bedroom, pulled it out and a huge dead rat fell out with a loud 'splat' (thanks Cat).
The smell scorched my nostrils and it took months of steaming, bleaching, airing and cleaning to get rid of that smell.

Oblomov23 · 07/09/2023 11:57

Found a mouldy black banana and black satsuma in with ds2's pe kit. Made me retch.
