To think the Tories must actually want to loose the next election?

School closures for repairs just before the term starts is bonkers. Are they now content with the amount of money they have plundered and now want Labour to inherit the mess or are they hoping that the dumb electorate will still vote for them or say " well the cost of living has hit everywhere...its nothing to do with Brexit?" Or " but boats."?
I don't get it.

Was she an excellent MP @ilovesooty?

She was awful. I'm thinking of revisiting to campaign against her for the next election.

verdantverdure · 04/09/2023 19:03

I'm in a Tory safe seat. I'll campaign for anyone who can win who isn't a Tory.

The Tories have been in power for most of my life, It's about time somebody else had a go.

BarelyLiterate · 04/09/2023 19:10

This is what happens in politics when parties stay in power for too long. They have to deal with the consequences of their own previous fuck ups. The same happened to Labour after the 2008 financial crisis and to the Tories in the mid 90s.

The country is in a mess, the NHS is dysfunctional & failing, Brexit has been a complete disaster and now the schools are literally crumbling. The Tories can’t be honest about what caused these things because they know it was their own policies and their own chaotic incompetence. So they carry on trying to blame anything & everyone but themselves.

We need a new government, and next year it is highly likely we will get one. If we don’t, then the electorate will only have themselves to blame for what happens next.

Lastchancechica · 04/09/2023 19:15

I am betting a hung parliament with Labour promising a referendum to the SNP to get into bed. Starmer will last less than 18 months.

All bets are off if a new party of any colour emerges.

Anxioys · 04/09/2023 19:34

Well my money is on a large Labour majority and the SNP looking lonely.

Newusernaming · 04/09/2023 19:41

But why do people keep getting folled by tories?

Newusernaming · 04/09/2023 19:48

Fooled I meant.

To be fair, most aren't. But the problem is much wider than schools. RACC is used in my local hospital, which needs a complete rebuild. Not sure where the money for that is going to come from, given Labour have said no increases in income tax.

If we won't pay more tax, how are we going to have better services and infrastructure?

There are lots of people out there who will still vote Tory, as they still think Boris woz robbed.

Tax wealth? Look at why 52% of adults are net takers? Why should higher rate tax payers who are funding everything pay even more. They are already the most highly taxed in the world and are changing their behaviour. The chancellor has been told this and that it is actively damaging the economy and tax take - hence why Labour have backtracked. You can’t just keep taxing PAYE and expect productivity.

What the hell happens when the deal between Starmer, the bbc and Jimmy Saville comes to light?

Will that happen before or after the election?

You do know that’s libellous, don’t you? I’d be very careful with my lies if I were you - even Johnson had to apologise for that whopper.

I really don’t think they are. Scandinavian rates are far higher. As are some African countries.

Because they believe things that aren't true.

Marginal rates - yes they do. Which is why Labour have you turned. They know it’s stupid.

Many Tory voters haven’t been ‘fooled’ at all. They support the Tories because they believe the party will represent & protect their interests.

They may be retired people relying on their triple locked pensions ( a Tory policy) or higher rate tax payers who believe they will always have to pay lower taxes under a Tory government.

Higher rate tax payers on the whole do not vote Tory. Their marginal rates are the highest in the world. You mean pensioners and asset rich. The Tories have brought in more damaging tax policies than any government. They’ve been told that too by their own reports.

BIossomtoes · 04/09/2023 20:13

How’s that working out for them now?

To be honest if your target market are the people who don't care about facts and reality you can do whatever you like so long as you regularly say something they agree with about bringing back imperial measures/capital punishment/National Service or women being women, or asylum seekers, or some other focus grouped to appeal to them meaningless old nonsense.

Saschka · 04/09/2023 20:15

They were hoping these chickens would come home to roost after the next election, Ie when it would be Labour’s problem. Unfortunately for them, it has come to a head six months too early.

at this point I'm hoping one of the nordic countries would invade us as we are clearly no longer able to govern ourselves

This long term higher rate taxpayer is paying MORE than ever and does not vote Tory.

I did however used to get reasonable public services for this. No longer.

Like I keep saying, to vote Tory nowadays you have to believe things that aren't true.

Oh, I don't know ... any excuse to find a picture of Mr Savile sporting a "Vote Conservative" T-Shirt is never going to help the Tories, is it ?

AKA gambling with people's lives.

After a school roof collapsed in 2018 there was an assessment that stated that 300-400 schools a year would need to be rebuilt per year in order to stay ahead of the collapsing concrete.

As far as I understand the facts they've been doing an average of less than 50 a year since then.

State schools innit? Their children don't go to those.
