To think the Tories must actually want to loose the next election?

School closures for repairs just before the term starts is bonkers. Are they now content with the amount of money they have plundered and now want Labour to inherit the mess or are they hoping that the dumb electorate will still vote for them or say " well the cost of living has hit everywhere...its nothing to do with Brexit?" Or " but boats."?
I don't get it.

Sunak doesn’t attempt or pretend he is representing the poor, and he doesn’t hush up and hide his pampered luxury like Starmer.

Lastchancechica · 04/09/2023 17:43

What the hell happens when the deal between Starmer, the bbc and Jimmy Saville comes to light?

Will that happen before or after the election?

VikingVolva · 04/09/2023 17:43

Could you gist what makes up the overall tax burden?

To open that link requires turning off all the partner vendor tracking cookies (that don't show on the first page - I don't really have appetite for a couple of hundred clicks and I was hoping you might have the key points at your fingertips)

We end up with Raynor as PM??

I think that's given me the best laugh I've had today.

I seem to recall Sunak trying to push his normal credentials and failing to fill up a Fiesta in a petrol station.

Who gave Saville a knighthood?

You're getting a bit desperate now.

Anxioys · 04/09/2023 17:46

The Tories are a bunch of greedy people who know they are going to lose.

They will do nothing about strikes, crumbling infrastructure or public services, police or education funding.

The next election is either May or September next year. Unless you can pay for private medicine or private education then you had better hope that Labour Party can find some money. It's going to be a nasty hangover after Brexit bollocks.

No, he's just funnelling UK money into his family business before he's out of a job.

I’m not a Tory. I have never voted Tory, and I think their behaviour, definitely since 2015, has been pretty disgusting in every area aside from gender. But. The three main things that have fucked the country now are Brexit, covid and the Ukraine war.

Brexit was undeniably the Tories’ fault, but Labour did sod all to stop it because the dangerous, incomplete fool who led them at the time supported it, and they left it far too long to get rid of him.

The only thing Labour did during covid was argue for more lockdown, which would have left us in an even worse mess. To be fair, Andy Burnham was an exception to this, but god forbid that the Labour Party might have a northern leader.

And Ukraine, to be fair to both, is beyond the control of either of them.

And, gender. Sorry, I know lots of people like to get very angry that it’s important to some of us and we aren’t prepared to suck it up, but it is and it’s there.

So I’m not really seeing the justification for calling Tory voters morons. We’ve had a choice for years between incompetent and nasty, and not quite smart or inspiring enough to beat incompetent and nasty. I don’t think picking option 2 necessarily makes you inherently superior in your judgement.

I'll be SO proud if mine ever buy me a donkey field Grin

The truth of the matter is 95% of the British public would put an x in the box that offered them literally anyone else!

Starmer is not PM material, a lisping indecisive public school boy that had concrete charisma and a rag tag second rate party. They are certainly not anything like the slick operatives of Blair’s team.

Then you have Rishi that blew up their own party - and with it their chance to win.

I couldn’t call it.

I was asked upthread why anyone would vote conservative, and I will say people really don’t like Starmer and especially not rabid Raynor and it’s better the devil you know sometimes. I am not sure anyone wants to pay even more tax next autumn with Labour, it will boil down to that.

Perhaps look up where Keir Starmer went to school.

AdamRyan · 04/09/2023 18:02

I like both of them.
Her surname is Rayner.
How come resorting to insults?

Anxioys · 04/09/2023 18:06

Lee Anderson and Keegan are both much more foul mouthed than Rayner.

Don't tell me, they are responsible sons and daughters with a robust attitude and Rayner is some kind of chav.

More bollocks from the Tory party for DM dipshits

To be fair Ukraine and Covid did know that this kind of concrete needs regular maintenance and about hospitals having to close off whole floors because of RAAC in 2012 and what did they do?

Nothing!

I bet they even made Michael Gove take away the funding fir said maintenance.

It's all Covid and Ukraine's fault that our schools and hospitals are crumbling, and you can't even go for a paddle on an English beach because of human faeces.

And definitely not the fault of the party in power for the last 13 years

Or the party in power for most of the last 50 years.

It's about time the Tories took a bit of personal responsibility and located their internal locus of control if you ask me.

They always blame something or someone else.

They all do. It’s electoral suicide to admit you made a bad decision. The last politician I remember doing it was Nick Clegg, and look what happened there.

Obviously what would have been ideal would have been if someone had actually joined some dots up and fixed the school buildings (and supported the construction industry) while the bloody schools were closed for months, but clearly that’s far too much to hope for.

Who was that really classy one who gave the middle finger outside 10 Downing Street?

Andrea Jenkyns. She used to be my MP.

verdantverdure · 04/09/2023 18:49

To be fair @LoobyDop a situation that was known about and done nothing about/actively worsened by removing the funding by the last five Tory PMs isn't a "A bad decision is it?

No it isn't.

You're just being an arse, so at least own it.

verdantverdure · 04/09/2023 18:54

It's kind of @Lastchancechica to prove my point about having to believe things that aren't true to be a Tory supporter currently.

That's the demographic the Tories are relying on at the next General Election.

verdantverdure · 04/09/2023 18:57

Highest tax burden for 70 years AND crumbling infrastructure, 8 million on waiting lists, child poverty up etc.

Where's our money gone??

I know, right? Not only is she a woman but she's from a working class background! Urgh! Know your place you vile harpy!!

Anyway, I see the tory defence league have well and truly scraped the barrel clean and are now deploying flat eatther levels of denialism. We're all being treated a truly magnificent meltdown.

Ps first part of this is sarcasm (I know it's obvious but can never be too careful these days with the out of context quotes from the TDL).
