Make up

Do you wear make up every day? I do...I know I look better and younger when I wear it and feel so much better. I know so many people who don't wear make up on a daily basis who look stunning when they put make up on to go out. Why wouldn't you want to look the best you can all the time? It doesn't need to take a lot of time...5 mins for basic eye liner..mascara.. blusher and lipstick...I have a friend in her 60s and if we go out she wears lipstick and mascara and looks 20 years younger! I also would wear make up if I'm just at home hanging out with my DP...I want to look my best for him. I find it baffling that people will do their hair and make up to go out with with work colleagues but don't do the same on a daily basis for their partner...

Nope. I work outdoors/with animals so there's absolutely no point.

KimberleyClark · 04/09/2023 08:25

No. I used to wear a bit when I was working but not once I retired. I’ve just never found it makes that much difference. I had a professional makeup job done for a black tie do pre Covid and although it looked OK it wasn’t the transformation I thought it would be! I have naturally dark pink lips and cool pinky toned skin and I think I look fine without it and so does DH.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 04/09/2023 08:29

I don’t wear make up if I’m just hanging about at home with my partner because that feels like an immense waste of time. He also doesn’t expect me to ‘look my best’ for him like some fifties housewife! I do wear it when I leave the house (eg for work or for a whole day out but not if I’m just nipping to the local shop). I have an extremely good skincare routine which shows (imo, of course!) and I’ve had permanent make up on my eyebrows so even when I don’t have make up on I sort of do iyswim?

I LOVE make up though. I only ever wear it for me because it makes me happy. No one should feel pressured to wear if it they’re not bothered or actively dislike it though.

CassiniG · 04/09/2023 08:31

I'm outdoors walking/hiking for four to six hours or more some days and I always wear make up.

Foundation and powder ing with sunscreen have definitely helped my skin and given me protection especially in the winter months.

I would never leave the house without make up on. I like to always look my best.

anothertrainwreck · 04/09/2023 08:32

I do not. I find it too uncomfortable to wear every day and can’t achieve a “stunning” look in five minutes so it’s too time-consuming for me. I am quite content with my appearance without it, don’t care about the appearance of others, and don’t subscribe to the beauty standard where I am supposed to look younger than I am.

I do like makeup and beauty though, and love to do it for a more special occasion, it’s just not an everyday thing for me, maybe once a week or so.

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 04/09/2023 08:35

Because who needs to wear a full face of makeup to do the school run, walk the dog, work from home, take the kids to softplay etc?

Plus I think being bare faced or absolute minimal makeup is more "in" now. Foundation with bronzer, eyeshadow and lipstick just looks a bit tacky in the day imo.

CyberCritical · 04/09/2023 08:36

I don't agree that people look better with make up on. They look different and your perspective of that may be that it's better but that isn't everyone's perspective.

I wear makeup maybe 5 times a year and then it's a bit of mascara and some eyeshadow, have never found a foundation that I feel comfortable wearing, last time I tried was 16 years ago when I was a bridesmaid and I felt fake.

SuperCallieFragilistic · 04/09/2023 08:39

I also don't agree that people look better with makeup ... like a PP said, they look different. Whether it's 'better' is entirely a matter of opinion. But the make-up industry is making a lot of people a great deal of money by convincing us to think that way...

Mumof1andacat · 04/09/2023 08:41

Just odd bits of concealer as needed, a bit of powder over top and some clear mascara. I don't wear much more on a special occasion. I don't really know how to put make up on

IHeartGeneHunt · 04/09/2023 08:42

Mascara, because I have white hair and grey eyes and without it I look like an albino woodlouse.

Dreemhouse · 04/09/2023 08:43

I love makeup and wear it everyday, even for the school run and going out for a run. But I have scarring on my face from
teenage acne and non-existent eyebrows. I enjoy the process of putting it on. However, if I had nicer skin and thicker brows I probably wouldn’t bother. I think if you have good skin, it will always look better without makeup.

Golightly133 · 04/09/2023 08:45

I wear basic makeup every day, but only wear eye shadow contouring etc if I am going out out. Can’t imagine going out with out it I think I look like a potato without it 😂

BIossomtoes · 04/09/2023 08:46

IHeartGeneHunt · 04/09/2023 08:42

Mascara, because I have white hair and grey eyes and without it I look like an albino woodlouse.

Same. And I have no eyebrows and pencilling them in is non negotiable. Doing my face takes five minutes and is as automatic as brushing my teeth or showering in the morning.

persisted · 04/09/2023 08:47

I do for work, although don't bother with eye liner and mascara. Its mostly just to look a bit more alive. I don't have the time, energy or inclination to bother with more on a day to day basis, I simply don't care enough. Thankfully as long as I look generally tidy my job isn't dependent on my looks.

I'm equally as baffled by people who have a full face on just to hang around at home. DH couldn't care less, which is lucky because if he tried to tell me I should 'look my best' he'd be told to get lost.

ToughFuss · 04/09/2023 08:48

I tend to put on a bit of mascara but that’s it. I live and work on a farm, the cows don’t care 🤣 I used to wear full make up everyday for work when I had a desk job but I rarely do that now! I went to a wedding on Saturday and did the works and while I looked great (nothing like blowing your own trumpet!!) I’m glad I don’t bother with that, or even half of, anymore. If I’m going for an evening out, or lunch with friends, or something, I tend to put a bit more on but even then only really light eyeshadow, light foundation and do my brows.

BaaCode · 04/09/2023 08:48

I've never worn make up. I tried it once as a teen and decided it was too much faffing about so I've never bothered since.

VintageTuppence · 04/09/2023 08:51

Hey! Little Girl
Comb your hair, fix your makeup
Soon he will open the door …

I rarely wear make up - work or home. When I do, I don’t look 10 or 20 years younger, I look like me with facemuck and lipstick on.

VintageTuppence · 04/09/2023 08:57

Just remembering some 15 or 20 years ago ‘glamour shots’ were a big thing here. Your make up would be done professionally and you were supposed to look like a model. A friend had it done and honestly she looked like a drag queen.

PetiteNasturtium · 04/09/2023 08:58

You want to look your best for him, what effort does he make?

I occasionally chuck some make up on, there is no pattern whatsoever really except if I’m going to a function. I used to go to loads of Black tie events,
balls and formal dinners so did feel compelled to then especially as the dinners were often free as entertaining visiting guest speakers.

I am off to a wedding in two weeks so will be putting it on then, I can only wear Clinique due to allergies so it’s not exactly cheap so if I was shovelling it on every day it would be very expensive.

Dreemhouse · 04/09/2023 08:58

I also think that many people who regularly wear makeup wear makeup because it makes them feel good, they’re not doing it for other people. I don’t think the postman cares what I look like makeup free and I’m certainly not trying to impress him. It is just another way you might take care of yourself, if that particular way interests you. I don’t see that it’s any different to going to the hairdressers.

AnonKat · 04/09/2023 08:59

Nope! Mostly because I'm terrible at it. Luckily I've never had bad skin, most I will wear is a bit of mascara.

yellowsmileyface · 04/09/2023 09:18

I never wear make up. Too much hassle and it makes my face feel grimy. I also happen to think people look better without it.

I also place little importance on how I look. I certainly don't care about looking younger.

BashfulClam · 04/09/2023 09:35

Does your partner make an effort to look his best for you? I like to be make up free when relaxing at home as it’s a waste of money and time to put a face on. My husband thinks I’m beautiful bare faced as well as done up. I also like the reaction I get from him when I do make a real effort.

Hankunamatata · 04/09/2023 09:37

I don't feel the need to be 'stunning' all the time. I'm happy in my own skin

Nochoiceleft · 04/09/2023 09:40

I find it baffling that you can’t see why I wouldn’t want to wear makeup at home.
