Make up

Do you wear make up every day? I do...I know I look better and younger when I wear it and feel so much better. I know so many people who don't wear make up on a daily basis who look stunning when they put make up on to go out. Why wouldn't you want to look the best you can all the time? It doesn't need to take a lot of time...5 mins for basic eye liner..mascara.. blusher and lipstick...I have a friend in her 60s and if we go out she wears lipstick and mascara and looks 20 years younger! I also would wear make up if I'm just at home hanging out with my DP...I want to look my best for him. I find it baffling that people will do their hair and make up to go out with with work colleagues but don't do the same on a daily basis for their partner...

5 minutes a day = 35 mins a week/ 2h 20 a month. Time is our most precious commodity & I don’t want to spend it on painting my face.

VeridicalVagabond · 04/09/2023 09:56

Nope, I look perfectly lovely without it and at 32 have no desire to look "younger" than I actually am. This is the face I've got and I'm happy with it.

I have no issue with people who choose to wear make-up for whatever reason, but implying that those of us who don't are somehow sloppy or not trying hard enough is silly and shows you've just bought into the bullshit the cosmetics industry is selling that you're not worthy if you're not painted and preened 24/7.

racheyc · 04/09/2023 09:59

I think you need to learn to get comfortable in your own skin!

GarlicGrace · 04/09/2023 10:01

My face is my face. It ain't great, but it's mine. It's rather rude of you to say my face isn't okay, don't you think, @ettieb?

When I wear makeup, my face looks like my face with makeup on. I usually do this as a signal that I've 'made an effort' for the people I'm with; I certainly don't look stunning or younger!

I used to enjoy doing my makeup, as a kind of artistic & meditative ritual. These days it's just a faff, and the result's not worth the time.

DappledThings · 04/09/2023 10:05

Not worn it in years. I used to do it for special occasions like weddings. Not sure I would even for that now.

I'm quite happy feeling that "looking my best" is looking comfortable and content.

Make-up rarely improves how people look, just makes it different.

Toddler101 · 04/09/2023 10:08

I wear make up for me, not my partner and not for anyone else.

When I'm at home, I sometimes do sometimes don't.

Humidititties · 04/09/2023 10:12

Don't wear make up day to day and when I go out I wear mascara and a bit of tinted lip gloss. I'm 50 and luckily blessed with good skin so I don't feel the need to cover it up, plus I don't like the feel of it on my skin

CrawleyEstate · 04/09/2023 10:13

I’m a middle aged, fat disabled wheelchair user so usually invisible to everyone when I’m out- I find people take me more seriously if I’m made up and are less likely to talk over my head or presume I have a carer somewhere that they should be talking to- so I wear it for appointments and things where I need to be taken seriously.

PerspiringElizabeth · 04/09/2023 10:16

I think there’s much more to be said for looking fab without makeup, so I put my energy into skincare and rarely wear makeup. I just sweat it off in the summer anyway and no way am I spending time throughout the day sorting that out.

Dinner out I will do mascara, maybe a brow and sometimes concealer if needed. That’s it. Lipstick just comes off.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 04/09/2023 10:17

I do. I enjoy applying it, and an "everyday" look only takes me 5-10 mins which is hardly onerous. I do it while I'm drinking my coffee.

Hufflepods · 04/09/2023 10:19

I love makeup and wear it most days, but no I wouldn’t wear it while having a day at home because I feel the need to “look my best for my partner”.
I can’t imagine how restrictive it feels to not be able to have your bare face in your own home.

Precipice · 04/09/2023 10:21

Does your DP wear make-up to sit at home with you? If not, does it baffle you that he doesn't? Why doesn't he want to paint his face to look his best for you?

Why is his own face enough for you, but you think your own face wouldn't be enough for him? Do you think it's the mask he loves?

Precipice · 04/09/2023 10:23

Also, 5 mins per day over 365 days in a year is 30 hours a year. That's not far off a full working week! So many more productive things you could do and learn in that time.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 04/09/2023 10:23

OP isn't coming back, she's too busy doing her makeup in case anyone thinks she looks old. 🤣

piglet81 · 04/09/2023 10:25

I quite like the way I look without it, thanks. Hmm

AdoraBell · 04/09/2023 10:29

I wear makeup when I choose to.

spilltheteapot · 04/09/2023 10:30

Haha yes I remember this trend. It was a deal where you referred a friend for money off, if I remember rightly.
The photos were always so cringy. One of the props you sat inside some sort of tube, or hanging round chair thing. Oh and the photos laid on your back with hair fanned out! Mortifying.

willywallaby · 04/09/2023 10:31

Part of the reason I don't wear make up on normal days is the reason you said. The way people see me everyday is my baseline and I look great when I'm going out. If you see someone who wears make up everyday without make up they look rough without it. Someone who doesn't wear make up everyday doesn't look noticeably rough without make up.

Bumcake · 04/09/2023 10:32

I would no more wear make-up for a day in the house than I would sit here with my shoes and bra on. All of those things are outdoor only as far as I am concerned.

I enjoy makeup as an occasional fun thing, it’s not an essential.

Ponoka7 · 04/09/2023 10:32

I would have thought like you when younger. I like the way I look when wearing make up, but it isn't a big part of my identity (or however you want to put it). Looking my best isn't top of my agenda, or to do list, I'm happy to look ok. I'm actually going for tear trough filler later today. Getting older does help, no-one is looking at me, at 55 and I'm glad the freedom that it brings. There's always going to be people who will look at you and find something wrong, the split on whether you look better with makeup would be 60/40, so do what suits your day.

VintageTuppence · 04/09/2023 08:57

Just remembering some 15 or 20 years ago ‘glamour shots’ were a big thing here. Your make up would be done professionally and you were supposed to look like a model. A friend had it done and honestly she looked like a drag queen.

Yes! Why was there always one in a flying jacket?!

CassiniG · 04/09/2023 08:31

I'm outdoors walking/hiking for four to six hours or more some days and I always wear make up.

Foundation and powder ing with sunscreen have definitely helped my skin and given me protection especially in the winter months.

I would never leave the house without make up on. I like to always look my best.

I agree with you, makes you feel better, well it does me

Hufflepods · 04/09/2023 10:36

Does everything in your life have to be “productive”? Do you never spend 5 minutes of your day doing something for yourself that you enjoy?

mum1527 · 04/09/2023 10:37

I don't wear it too often as the texture annoys me

Nochoiceleft · 04/09/2023 10:37

Bumcake · 04/09/2023 10:34

I have that photo buried deep in a drawer somewhere never to see the light of day 😂
