Just for fun.

Mine is the woman who posted for advice about what to do about her husband who was talking to their cat really sensually. Not baby talk but like sensuous loving ”ooh your fur is so good my darling pussycat” and it gave her the absolute ick.

Every time I talk to my dog I remember her and chuckle. I wonder how she’s doing 😂

The lady with the husband who told her when she could shower and wouldn’t always let her , he completely controlled everything, she worked for his business, she had to sit at the table with him if he took work home, he convinced her she wouldn’t be capable of training/a job she had gotten and she would make a fool of herself so she turned it down, I think she managed to get a rented house and was planning to leave but as far as I know she never did update and most likely stayed, I think of her and hope she did get away but when I see a news story of a husband murdering his wife I wonder if it is her.

That one was hideous. She had to sit with him at all times when he was home and wasn't even allowed to read a book because he needed her full attention, even when he was actively doing something else.

Yes. Her husband is a writer.

And the day David Cameron turned up, Posie Parker (the PP) hid in the bushes with an apple pie or something to see him. Or was going to.

Shouldn't be forgotten that little good came out of that visit. The publicity and the press intrusion then got too much for the family at the time and very shortly afterwards Riven went under the radar here as well.

Erm wasn't quite like that. Riven posted some time after DC's visit saying that she could no longer cope with no support and was considering putting her DD into care.

Mumsnetters were (rightly) outraged at her predicament and directed that outrage at David Cameron. They messaged Downing Street, national press, even after Riven asked them to stop. It got totally out of control. In the end their family life ended up in the papers and Riven left Mumsnet.

It was kindly meant but was almost mass hysteria and really wasn't Mumsnet's finest hour.

I was a SAHM at the time but I missed it all as I was out all day at a specific event. I read it all in the evening and was glad I had been out because I think I might well have been messaging Downing Street along with everyone else thinking I was helping when I really wasn't.

A post on a thread about inappropriate things done or said at weddings.

During his speech the bridegroom thanked his new mother in law for not wearing any knickers that day which had helped to keep the flies away from the cake.

There was another one where the groom (or it may have been his dad) referred to the bride's mum as a 'MILF' in his speech. It turned out that he just thought it was a slang word meaning an attractive older lady who takes pride in her appearance, and had no idea whatsoever that it was an acronym!

The thread where the OP had peed on her cardigan (or long skirt) by accident and people shared their poo/wee accident stories. One that made me laugh was a poster’s mum was totally still in M&S and when she asked her what was wrong, she said she couldn’t move or she would shit herself (or words to that effect).

The super soaker thread.

Expectation v’s reality

I also enjoy any Large Cat/beast of Bodmin thread. There are always excellent replies on those and any unsolved mysteries threads.

Almost certainly a piss troll.

Is anyone able to link to the artsy couple/CF visitor thread?

This thread though has cheered me no end. I’m in Australia. Today is Fathers’ Day. My Dad died in 2012 and my LTR ended a few hours ago. Between sipping wine, feeling sorry for myself, and alternating between IT Crowd episodes and Dr Ramani YT videos, I’ve been popping back to read this thread. There’s a true sense of comfort and solidarity. Thanks, MNetters. This isn’t the first circus you’ve helped me through, and I doubt it’ll be the last! Cheers! X

The OP who shouted Willy Willy Willy at a construction worker who looked at her. He must have thought she had just been realised from prison!

No, it was definitely as a result of her posting saying that she could no longer cope and was thinking of contacting SS that MN posters got involved, and contacted various people in power. There was a FB group called Respite for Riven etc. Started by someone called Cherry something.

Then DC got involved, for that half an hour. The press picked up his involvement (it was election time, Samantha Cameron apparently berated him for not knowing how much nappies cost etc)

Lots of people had started to warn Riven that the whole thing might blow up in the family's faces, and it did. MN were in contact with both Riven and the press briefly which was obviously unprecedented at the time.

So yes, agree with you it should never have happened, but the order was definitely Riven posting then all the publicity.

The woman who was going round to her male neighbours house to cook him dinner every night, in a really messy kitchen. Then she got tied up in knots about a slow cooker (or similar piece of kitchen equipment)??
Then there was a follow-up post about a batty young female neighbour with a baby, who OP was the god mother of under duress.
Then there was another follow-up about storing a load of messy old horse-related shit, that she was weirdly attached to, in a stable yard that she kept an ex-horse in years ago, that belongs to the family of male neighbour, and what should she do with the key to this yard?

All bonkers and bizarre. And every single piece of advice she got was met with variations on "oh, I couldn't possibly..."

She had a really ponderous, woe is me, writing style, so was easily recognisable. I haven't seen her round her for quite a long time though.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Positive41 · 03/09/2023 10:47

For me, its the recent thread about the batshit mum organising the year 7 party that was meant to be a surprise. A kid found out and the organising mum tried to shame the kid on the parent's whatsapp group and said she wanted to cancel the party because everything was ruined!

Another mum on the whatsapp group (the OP) asked MN if this was OTT. It was brilliant, clearly the batshit mum and her mates found the thread and posted. I was hooked!!!!!

ludocris · 03/09/2023 10:49

On a spooky thread I read a post by a woman about being at some sort of religious event and seeing a demon in the trees out of the corner of her eyes, and someone else seeing it too. I've never been able to find the original post but it was very spooky.

AcesBaseballbat · 03/09/2023 11:13

The very first bunfight I saw after I first joined MN was a thread about returning balls kicked into your garden. A poster made some flippant comment about any local kids being shit out of luck as she was often away for weeks, and another poster had an absolute meltdown, invented a hypothetical child who only that one single ball as his only toy despite living in a very wealthy part of central London, what if that ball is his only friend and by not being at home at all times for hypothetical ball-retrieval you're condemning this wealthy but neglected child time with his ball-friend, and spiralled into demanding the other poster install a series of ad hoc ladders into her 12ft high walls so that on the off chance a kid kicked a ball over them, the kid could climb over and retrieve the ball themselves.

The Meghan Markle bash threads during the wedding were just unhinged. So many deranged comments there stick in my head.

Oh there was a very similar one. But it was a surprise party for year 6 leavers . And the organiser had arranged jumpers for them as well. A child found out via a parents group whats app. And told other children..

@ILookAtTheFloor can you she'd some light about why the Balonz thing was funny?

I can’t read a baby name thread without wanting to suggest Balonz.

It was funny because the OP just kept on posting as if Balonz was a perfectly ordinary name and ignoring all the WTF questions.

Ha ha yes! My absolute favourite.

Also "Pom Bear, anyone?"

One that has always stuck with me for its sheer wtf-ness was the thread where a woman had shouted abuse at OP in a cafe/supermarket toilet, and a response was that OP should have offered the woman a creme egg, because you don't know what kind of day she was having to have acted that way! Just batshit.

I remember that one , did she ever give us a better explanation to what a fly seat was ?

Uterusbegone · 03/09/2023 12:16

Oh and the one where the OPs pregnant colleague kept stealing her fizzy drink in the office, and posters were giving 'she's pregnant, you should buy her a pack and then she'd leave yours alone', 'well she's pregnant what do you expect', 'you can't say anything it might come across as pregnancy discrimination', 'it's probably hormones, you can't really blame her' type answers.

I can't recall how it ended but do remember being incensed by the ridiculous comments about a raging thieving CF that just happened to be pregnant 🤯
