To ask what jeans shape is fashionable currently

GalGadont · 01/09/2023 22:19

Not really an AIBU, posting for traffic. Skinny jeans have seemed to be on the out for a while. Is the current fashion straight leg? High rise? Wide leg? What say you, MN?

All the young women were wearing combats though.

Called Cargos now my teen tells me!

HappiDaze · 02/09/2023 10:08

Fortunately I'd put all my jeans 👖 into an easy to locate pile.

All shapes and sizes skinny, mom, boyfriend, wide leg. All sorts of colours too.

I'm a bit of hoarder it would seem but I have a great selection in all colours most of which I'll actually wear apart from the coated jeans. But I might wear those on wet, snowy days perhaps.

I wasn't talking about low rise jeans. Mid rise suit people best, with the waistband about an inch below the naval.

High enough to contain your stomach but not so high that it makes even a reasonably flat stomach look like a beach ball.

If only! That would just get it halfway!

beatrix1234 · 02/09/2023 10:47

Baggy jeans, any shape really, the more baggy model the more trendy. I saw ones is Zara last week which are borderline ridiculous, girls and fashion bloggers were going bonkers, they look like several recycled jeans badly sewn together, had many holes and massive. Needless to say they were super expensive. I'm OK with jeans with holes, problem is they don't last long which I guess is what our extreme fashion capitalist system wants, that way you need to throw them away and buy new ones.

Skinny jeans are so dated, they're probably about to come back into fashion. Great news for those who haven't been paying attention for the last decade!

I don't get this. The shops are full of skinny jeans. Loads of people are still wearing skinny jeans. They just don't look dated at all.

seriallylurking · 02/09/2023 10:55

wide leg and flares

Shinyandnew1 · 02/09/2023 10:57

i have seen posts on here since about 2009 saying skinny jeans are on their way out, yet for most people I see over the age of 25, that’s what they are still wearing in 2023!!

Yes, if you pay attention to trends, fashion news, fashion bloggers and trendsetters you will know that skinny jeans are incredibly dated, the trend lasted for a very long time and died in the pandemic. Yes all the stores are still packed with them (not so much as before), but it's the same with high thin heels, they are very "dated" but the stores still carry them. Not everyone follows fashion trends (and that's a good thing), the industry is aware of this and you can find old and new trends in the stores. Ultimately is all about capitalism making money, not helping people look trendy.

Yes I fell into the same trap. “I like your combats”. “They’re cargos”!

ive offered my beloved combats to her from the 90s!

beatrix1234 · 02/09/2023 11:11

After the pandemic women's clothes have become much more baggy and looser, more confortable, more colourful. This is the result of having go through intense hardship for a couple of years and having to stay working from home. Fashion has changed enormously. In result jeans have become quite baggy and skinny pants that feel tight or pull inside your crotch area every time you bend are out.

I’ve been wearing high waist flares\kick flares for 2 ish years now, love them. Bootcuts still look a bit dated to me, but I love them too. I’ve also been wearing straight leg mid rise Levi’s with chunky boots which I’ll also wear again. Just bought these 2 weeks ago, proper all denim and terrific shape, v flattering - is why a lot are out of stock! 🙂:

vitocorleone. I got my first pair from John Lewis, and the other on eBay so I didn’t go into a store. But I do walk past our store in the city centre and it looks quite civilised. There’s no loud music blasting out and it didn’t look busy. Their jeans come in different lengths. I’m only 5’ and got the 28” (I think) but still had to get them shortened a bit. But the proportions everywhere else are fine on me. They go up to a 34” length so I think they cover a lot of different heights. They’re the only jeans I’ve not had to get about half lopped off. They don’t go baggy round the knees and wash and wear really well too. I’m impressed.

Dente · 02/09/2023 11:33

i love all jean shapes …. My issue is footwear in the winter ;

Bootcuts need heeled boots. Hate them with jeans and the edges are grubby/frayed.

Mom jeans look terrible with military boots, cut your leg right off and/or an ankle breeze

Skinny’s not really in fashion, but generally look great with all footwear.

any suggestions ?

MissMogwai · 02/09/2023 12:04

I don't care if they're dated or not I can't get on with anything other than skinnies now. Low rise anything can jog on, I hated them when I was young and slim so it's not happening now I'm neither of those things.

The Levi's 725 posted above look more my style will have a look at those!

Gal Gadont worry about it and please don’t spend your money on things you don’t need. Do you have jeans that you like? Just wear them. Put your money in your retirement account instead.

Haha thanks - I’m not worrying about it honestly, just curious. I agree with PP who say comfort and personal taste is important, but I think you can be comfortable in and enjoy wearing more than one style. I actually resisted skinny jeans for ages and ages until I happened to find a pair I liked, so they were probably already well out of ‘cutting edge’ fashion by the time I started wearing them. But my current pair is wearing out and I have noticed that the silhouette seems to be changing, so I was thinking I wouldn’t mind a change too - just keeps it interesting!

Mom Jeans

Highdaysandholidays1 · 02/09/2023 15:54

What jeans do apple-shaped people wear? I'm not into showing off my midriff, high waist feel so tight, low waist are terrible, wide legged just make you look like you are as wide as your middle all the way down.

I loved my slightly not skinny skinnies, wore them to death. Tried flares/boot cut last year, quite ok but still felt so tight around waist.

Would black skinnies that are slim fit be ok...?

I don't want to wear cropped anything, I loved the cover-up nature of baggy top/skinny and now it seems the slim flat stomached people are having their revenge!

Grin They don't look dated to me, and I'm still struggling with the idea of them looking dated when so many people still wear them, but at 64 I don't follow fashion. I just have the occasional nod to current styles.

Just off to don a pair of cargoes that I have worn constantly over the last two years.

Well, there are plenty of young people in Milan and Paris still wearing them, seemingly oblivious that they’re “dead” 😉

I’m loving the baggy jeans at the moment. I just bought a couple of pairs of the skater baggy jeans from Bershka.
