To ask what jeans shape is fashionable currently

Not really an AIBU, posting for traffic. Skinny jeans have seemed to be on the out for a while. Is the current fashion straight leg? High rise? Wide leg? What say you, MN?

Levi's 501s 90s – the key is the 90s bit. Straight, loose and long.

Mom and bootcut jeans absolutely not fashionable right now, sorry.

Skinny jeans are so dated, they're probably about to come back into fashion. Great news for those who haven't been paying attention for the last decade!

grass321 · 02/09/2023 06:40

Me too - any clue where to find any? Absolutely ANY style in fashion right now except low rise.

Tommy Hilfiger Sophie and 7 for All Mankind B(Air). It took a lot of searching to find low rise jeans in the forest of high rises.

Even if you're stick thin, for me high rise make everyone look like they're got a tummy and massive bottom. It's the acres of heavy denim that emphasises everything.

SharonEllis · 02/09/2023 06:58

@devilsmommy @grass321 thank you! I find high rise soooo uncomfortable as well as looking awful.

Surely you buy what is comfortable and flattering for your body shape and never mind what the fashion mags say?

Guess that would depend on whether you want to be fashionable wouldn’t it?
That's why so many people ask for a fashion board, rather than Style and Beauty.
Never happens though.

I’ve just bought a pair of high waisted wide jeans in quite a pale blue which I’m loving (will be too long in wet weather though), and a pair of mom for more casual. Still wear skinnies sometimes but especially useful with wellies.

byvirtue · 02/09/2023 07:26

I’m loving wide legged trousers and have bought quite a few pairs over the last 18 months but struggled to find a pair of jeans I liked.

The high rise wide legged jeans just look too much to me, I think it might be they often have odd pockets or maybe it’s because I’m tall and it’s just too much denim! Anyway finally bought a new pair of jeans and went with a high rise flare which bridges the skinny to wide leg conundrum for me as they are slimming but loose.

Skinnies are now in a box in a loft, sure they will return at some point.

Plappad · 02/09/2023 07:51

Wide leg long, high waist

And straight cut ankle grazer, low rise or high waist

Skinny jeans definitely out!

ASGIRC · 02/09/2023 07:52

I would say wide leg is the main fashion right now, much to my delight!! After years of not being able to buy jeans, I now have a wardrobe full of new pairs!

However, I seem to not have found the low rise ones! I hate high rise... It doesnt matter what size I am, they always dig into my belly!

VimtoVimto · 02/09/2023 07:53

M&S Eva jeans are bootcut.

Poppysmom22 · 02/09/2023 08:01

I've got my bootcuts on I always liked it. I'm sure that if the summer was good I would have gone in for the flare wedge combo too. But I've got the skinnies in reserve for winter as they go on my wellies better

adagio · 02/09/2023 08:08

@VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia i just bought Levi jeans in the outlet shop at McArthur glen, great shop, lovely staff (helpful when questioned but leave you to it). I chose a straight leg 724 and they are ridiculously comfy and flattering.

Choose both waist and length so always a great fit - so refreshing after years of high street dress sized jeans which are always a bit wrong- length on me.

narniabusiness · 02/09/2023 08:16

High waist wide leg slightly cropped and darker wash flares (ie flared from below the knee)like the River Island ones linked above are the ones I like at the moment. Both from M&S. Their boot cut and their flares seem to be the same as far as I can tell. I agree the high waist make your tummy look bigger, but I will still take them over the low waist which sits below my hip bones and constantly slipped down unless belted this giving an unattractive muffin bulge.
I think skinny jeans work with longer tops or big long jumpers and most current tops are cropped or designed to be tucked in. So the general silhouette has moved on and that’s why they don’t appeal so much.

DoodlesMam · 02/09/2023 08:21

I am happy to wear jeans that suit my shape, are comfy, and for different purposes: I still wear skinnies as they look good with boots and sandals, and they are practical for work with a blazer. I wear sailor trouser jeans (wide leg) sometimes, and crop flares sometimes. Just wear what you want! Marks and Spencer 'cigarette' Harper jeans are great.

This. High Rise and/or Mom jeans look terrible on just about everyone so I'm quite baffled as to why people do that to themselves in order to be fashionable.

Would you rather my stomach hung over the top or was safely encased? Because that's what you'll get if I have low waisted jeans - and no, getting a larger size won't work because they then start falling down!

I see folk in all ages in all sorts of jean shapes - go for what flatters and also feels nice on. Personally I'm shocked at how I actually thought skinny jeans were remotely nice on me (to be fair it took me a good while to think they were decent) and much prefer something more akin to what I wore in the 90s (looser, longer, comfier but also more flattering). You probably need to try some different styles on and get an idea what looks/feels good.

araiwa · 02/09/2023 08:26

People buy jeans according to what's in fashion?

Rather than what they like, is comfortable and looks good?

Nuts

I wasn't talking about low rise jeans. Mid rise suit people best, with the waistband about an inch below the naval.

High enough to contain your stomach but not so high that it makes even a reasonably flat stomach look like a beach ball.

EmmaPaella · 02/09/2023 08:38

In the Levi shop yesterday, there was a big display of Levi 501s ‘90s’.

And some bootcut and flared 725/6 and skinny jeans. Did not see much of anything else.

EmmaPaella · 02/09/2023 08:39

All the young women were wearing combats though.

Gwenhwyfar · 02/09/2023 08:46

Sorry, I think they're awful or at least need to be taken up for the model.

I agree. My on the floor jeans days are 100% over.

I'd prefer to have a muffin top that I can hide with a top than the terrible belly ache the high waisted ones give me.

Purplecatshopaholic · 02/09/2023 08:51

Just bought these. Bloody love ‘em

To ask what jeans shape is fashionable currently
Mypuppywontsleep · 02/09/2023 08:51

Mum jeans that turn up at the bottom. I get mine from Tesco they so comfy stretchy and affordable too. Will never go back to skinny jeans
it is not true they are unflattering, I have no excess skin on show and they don’t make me look bad

Nuts

I'm not sure it's nuts. I was wearing skinny jeans until recently, but the tops in the shops weren't appropriate any more. When skinnies were first in fashion tops were long and loose. They're not any more.
