To ask what jeans shape is fashionable currently

Not really an AIBU, posting for traffic. Skinny jeans have seemed to be on the out for a while. Is the current fashion straight leg? High rise? Wide leg? What say you, MN?

I'm just wearing my boyfriend jeans from last year now it's colder

I didn't really think about and didn't care

DD didn't make any rude comments so I'm guessing I look ok Grin

Gwenhwyfar · 02/09/2023 08:53

What I've seen a lot of in the office recently are dark grey wide leg jeans that come to the ankle. I'm quite envious, but suspect they may be high waisted ones that I literally can't stomach.

I'm wearing mine too, but they're for summer only I think.
I had to size down for them.

I wear everything to the ankle nowadays apart from those wide legged combat trousers. I really like the look of ankle grazers on me, they go with all my shoes too

HappiDaze · 02/09/2023 08:56

I've got some wide leg jeans so I'll dig them out

HappiDaze · 02/09/2023 08:58

@Gwenhwyfar I know they do feel too summery because of the turn ups with trainers

I wore them with lace up ankle boots last winter so they'll be ok like that

I do have some wide leg jeans somewhere.

The good thing at the moment is that you can find most cuts and rises around, for a very long while it was just high rise skinnies. The thing you can say with certainty is that skinnies are not cutting edge but they are super practical in a way that floor skimming flares and wide legs will never be, and that’s why they’ll outlast them all.

Jeans in general are worn less, what with all the athleisure, WFH comfies and floral midi dresses so imo it’s not so obvious what is and out. I personally think anything just a little looser looks a bit more modern.

That pretty much sums it up for me. It rains a lot where I live so wide leg, floor skimming jeans would never get worn.

As a tall pear shape I find low rise very uncomfortable and unsafe as they just slip down, and I prefer jeans that end on my waist. In terms of cut I find straight jeans the most flattering on me.

Wide leg jeans are cold too actually - wind goes up your legs.
Then skinnies were cold because they were often a mix of denim and lycra or something, not proper jeans material.

HappiDaze · 02/09/2023 09:01

It's only just turned cold here in the last couple of days so I'm going have to have a proper look through what I've got

I like the sound of wide grey high waisted jeans @Gwenhwyfar not that I can wear jeans to work.

Gwenhwyfar · 02/09/2023 09:02

"Jeans in general are worn less, what with all the athleisure, WFH comfies and floral midi dresses so imo it’s not so obvious what is and out. "

I think you see them more in office though. We're smart casual and I'm seeing more and more jeans.

HappiDaze · 02/09/2023 09:02

@Gwenhwyfar ha yes to wind going up your legs I forgot that Grin

I buy ankle length because I have short legs, but then it's not the right look.
Only to the ankle is also too cold for me as my ankles and feet are the coldest part of me. Exposing them looks good, but feels bad!

HappiDaze · 02/09/2023 09:03

I think I'll go through my jeans this weekend to see what fits and what suits

Thefarahwaytree · 02/09/2023 09:08

What tops are people pairing their non skinny jeans with? As PP said it’s all about cropped and tucked in but what about those of us who have a multitude of middle sin to hide?

DIYandEatCake · 02/09/2023 09:08

I’m hoping bootcut make a comeback too. Only because it’s all I wear (they suit my shape best) but can be hard to track down, being out of fashion.

Zampa · 01/09/2023 22:27

Low rise, wide leg. Think 1990s and you'll be spot on. Must be on the floor (no ankles please).

Spot on !

Octomingo · 02/09/2023 09:19

I was late to abandon boot cut and embrace skinnies(2007, I think). Skinnies just made me think of the 80s. My first skinnies definitely had less lycra than the ones you get now.

I don't agree that bootcut are flattering though. They give most women a my little pony vibe.

I love skinnies for boots and to roll up with trainers. I'm also partial to a high rise flare. In fact, a high rise anything.

squashyhat · 01/09/2023 22:31

Whatever will fit over my fat arse and hopefully make it look not quite so fat.

Edited

The perfect answer! 😂

grass321 · 02/09/2023 09:35

They give most women a my little pony vibe.

That's made me laugh. So true. (Although I'm the opposite, anything low rise).

McLennonK · 02/09/2023 09:39

Ugh, I hate wide leg jeans as I'm short with short legs and they just make me look even stumpier!

araiwa · 02/09/2023 08:26

People buy jeans according to what's in fashion?

Rather than what they like, is comfortable and looks good?

Nuts

Oh come on, don’t be disingenuous, you know perfectly well plenty of people do, and it’s not nuts to them!

LuisaF · 02/09/2023 09:43

I think they are all in at the moment! Im currently wearing slim style in the Tesco contour range (high waist) £30 a pair. Pleased with them

FancyFanny · 02/09/2023 09:44

OP wanted to know what was fashionable, not what you like best!

Levi's 501s 90s – the key is the 90s bit. Straight, loose and long.

Mom and bootcut jeans absolutely not fashionable right now, sorry.

Skinny jeans are so dated, they're probably about to come back into fashion. Great news for those who haven't been paying attention for the last decade!

I really hope they do, I still have all my skinnies and have been trying mom & straight 90s (Zara) for the last few years but skinnies just look so much nicer if you have slim legs!

Skybluecoat · 02/09/2023 10:01

Honestly I think anything goes with jeans right now, so many options. Although I do agree skinnies look a little dated.

I wear the Levi 725 posted upthread, or M and S Eva bootcut. I have a thick waist and skinny thighs so the higher waist and tighter thigh cut suits me.
