Not really an AIBU, posting for traffic. Skinny jeans have seemed to be on the out for a while. Is the current fashion straight leg? High rise? Wide leg? What say you, MN?

There are all types in most high street stores atm. My favourite is high wasted flares. River Island do an amazing pair with a tummy flattering section at the front for £45. They wash really well and are flattering.

What are these River Island jeans called ??

TheOGCCL · 01/09/2023 23:35

The good thing at the moment is that you can find most cuts and rises around, for a very long while it was just high rise skinnies. The thing you can say with certainty is that skinnies are not cutting edge but they are super practical in a way that floor skimming flares and wide legs will never be, and that’s why they’ll outlast them all.

Jeans in general are worn less, what with all the athleisure, WFH comfies and floral midi dresses so imo it’s not so obvious what is and out. I personally think anything just a little looser looks a bit more modern.

Magnoliainbloom · 01/09/2023 23:49

Lots of wide leg jeans on the streets of London ATM.

Whatever will fit over my fat arse and hopefully make it look not quite so fat.

Edited

Hahahaha!

Am feeling like mom jeans are on the way out now. Not as big as two years ago. I think wide leg jeans are more in now.

givemeasunnyday · 02/09/2023 00:04

I prefer mid-rise flares or bootcut, and fortunately they are being sold at the moment. I really don't like any other kind - I'll be wearing them in my 80s (hopefully).

Zonder · 02/09/2023 00:05

Where are you finding bootcut? They're my favourite and I haven't seen any for a while.

Other than that I just think everyone should wear the shape of jeans they feel good in.

Rummikub · 02/09/2023 00:06

im sure my dd is wearing dad jeans currently.

Im still doing skinny and dont care.

Scarfweather · 02/09/2023 00:16

I’ve always thought jeans were one of those items where you simply wear what suits you best. Skinnies for me, as I’m petite and swamped by anything baggy or wide.

Yoghurtpotsatdawn · 02/09/2023 00:27

If anyone is after bootcuts, I’m a big fan of Levi 725 high rise bootcut. So flattering. I’m size 12, hourglass with chunky thighs and they’re great on the bum and thighs. I think they’re quite a generous fit. I’ve one size 30 but the other is 29 and is a good fit. I got the last ones on eBay and the pair before in a John Lewis offer. I nave them in indigo, mid blue and I’ve spotted a black pair on eBay,

Told my mum the other day I can’t cope with bootcut not being available and she said I had to move on!! (I’m 43 and she’s 75!) Whatever was wrong with bootcut?!

I'm petite as well and find it's all about balance.
Today I wore wide legged high waisted jeans with a black strapless fitted top. It looked cute and the wide legs are big but they are supposed to look like that.

I also love the 90's grunge throwbacks with large oversized tshirts, dress shirts, blazers, and fitted jeans or a fitted skirt. Jean skirts are popular right now, and even long satin skirts. I love the oversized, balanced look..

I'm not in the UK, but the last time I looked Next and M&S had them.

I agree, everyone should wear what they find comfortable and what they like, and I'm pleased that so many different styles are available now.

OldTinHat · 02/09/2023 04:38

I always wear a bootcut. Have never delved into skinnies since I was about 16.

junbean · 02/09/2023 04:53

In the US it’s any type of wide leg, Y2k (cargo, low rise bootcut, baggy), or 70’s vibe. All more comfortable than skinny jeans for sure.

nicky2512 · 02/09/2023 04:56

Dd just bought two pairs of dad jeans from hollister and a pair of flares v similar to the River Island pair from Zara.

High rise straight leg for me but I haven’t been fashionable for at least 25 years.

ChillysWaterBottle · 02/09/2023 05:05

Bootcut has been back for ages. Low rise. The early 2000s are back. They seem shorter than the first time round, ending at around the ankles. Wide legged, 90s 'baggy' and flares seem to be back too either ending too high or too low - at the ankles again or dragging on the floor. High waisted 'mum' and boyfriend jeans are enduring but aren't the pinnacle anymore. Skinny jeans are 'over' in the sense they're no longer fashionable but they've done so well they seem to have entered the realms of timeless style so they're still widely worn and don't look unfashionable per se, just not cutting edge. A wide variety of styles are worn by a wide variety of people so at the moment it's very much pick what suits you x

Surely you buy what is comfortable and flattering for your body shape and never mind what the fashion mags say?

This. High Rise and/or Mom jeans look terrible on just about everyone so I'm quite baffled as to why people do that to themselves in order to be fashionable.

VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia · 02/09/2023 06:03

H&M and River Island are both noisy bright hellscapes thanks to piped music and Satan's shop lighting. The short jeans were beyond floor length for me and I'm 5'8".

@Yoghurtpotsatdawn What are Levi shops like? Loud musc or civilised quiet? Bright? Do the staff cling like limpets on commission or do they have the sense to keep a distance? And are the jeans designed for seven foot Amazons like H&M and RI's are?

I find high-rise more flattering than low-rise. Low-rise just fall down around my hips and make me look like Chaplin. The curse of being apple-shaped.

Straight leg high waisted but I still prefer low waist

Me too - any clue where to find any? Absolutely ANY style in fashion right now except low rise.

Funnily enough I told someone else this the other day. An online store called EMP. Urban classics low waist straight leg jeans they're called. So comfy and they look amazing. Great quality aswell. And a massive plus, they're only £21. Hope they're what you looking for 😀
