Canned G&T at 10am

My husband has been working long hours recently, my toddler and preschooler are in rotten moods and I need to pack for a holiday we're going on tomorrow morning. I drink alcohol pretty infrequently (maybe once a month?) but I've just been to Aldi for a few bits and impulsively bought a couple of canned G&Ts. I really want to have one now, as a 'treat' to perk me up a bit. Would that be unreasonable? I'm not planning to make a habit of it.

Wouldn't it just makes you sleepy?

hby9628 · 01/09/2023 10:15

Well I would. Those tins are usually pretty low alcohol aren't they?
Presuming you aren't driving anywhere soon.
Lots of people have a drink that early on holiday. If it's just a bit of a "yay we're going on holiday" type boost.
I wouldn't suggest a bottle of wine at 10am though.

teenagetantrums · 01/09/2023 10:16

I'd have one. But l drink whenever l fancy one, have been known to have a glass of wine in the morning if I'm not working. As long as it dosent lead to drinking all day it will be fine.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 01/09/2023 10:16

YABU to drink alcohol in the morning . Have a cup of tea and save your tinny for later.

MorningOclock · 01/09/2023 10:16

This is odd OP and more odd that you’ve been so torn to post on MN. No, it’s 10am?!

hby9628 · 01/09/2023 10:17

@teenagetantrums I love this ethos

HamishTheCamel · 01/09/2023 10:19

I wouldn't fancy it myself, but if you do then I say go for it!

hby9628 · 01/09/2023 10:19

@Peakysneaky maybe it depends what time you get up. If you're up early with kids it's practically afternoon
Meanwhile I'm off to make a second coffee to try to get motivated today

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 01/09/2023 10:21

Do it!

Colourfulponderings · 01/09/2023 10:22

I wouldn’t say it’s terrible or wrong. But I do think you’ll find you’re sleepy and it will actually be counterproductive.

Pleaseme · 01/09/2023 10:22

Is it more that you want something cold/ refreshing / fizzy. I don’t drink anymore ( yay menopause) but ice cold fevertree tonic water seems to hit the spot when I feel like I could do with a tipple.

LittleMonks11 · 01/09/2023 10:22

Have a posh coffee instead and a treat then open that bad boy at 6pm on the dot.

Whataretheodds · 01/09/2023 10:23

Honestly this is a slippery slope. You'll only end up with a headache later especially if you don't drink much. You're trying to escape from the drudge which is understandable
Have a large glass of water and a cup of tea or coffee. Put on some music you can dance or sing along to.

When you're all packed and ready to go you can have one if you still fancy it.

HeatherMoores · 01/09/2023 10:23

No harm in a treat now and again if that’s all it is. But bear in mind after the initial little buzz of the alcohol has worn off you might feel more tired and lethargic.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/09/2023 10:24

I wouldn’t because it would make me really sleepy and not able to do the things I’d planned. Even just one.

Id rather a really nice cup of tea, or coffee (if you drink it, but I don’t)

BellaJuno · 01/09/2023 10:25

Are you looking after your children solo this morning? If so then it’s a bit odd to want to be under the influence, however mildly, at 10am while looking after young children.

babbscrabbs · 01/09/2023 10:25

I wouldn't as dealing with moody preschoolers will just be harder.

EyOopDucky · 01/09/2023 10:26

Pack and then have it
Get your jobs done first

Cowlover89 · 01/09/2023 10:29

Go for it

hylian · 01/09/2023 10:30

If you know it's a one off and not going to be a slippery slope I can't see the problem.

Ozziedream · 01/09/2023 10:32

Any alcohol is a depressant - as in it slows down your system and after the buzz wears off you’ll feel sleepy. I think a pick me up would be be a coffee or fizzy drink. I think the earliest I’ve ever cracked and had a drink when looking after toddlers was 4pm.

Peachespeachesohpeaches · 01/09/2023 10:34

Unless you're in an airport, no.

Save it till all the graft is done and it'll taste better then!

Tg2023 · 01/09/2023 10:35

I happily have a few drinks & put some music on while I pack for holiday.
Do what feels right for you op, you don't need permission you're a grown up. 🍻

YouJustDoYou · 01/09/2023 10:36

I had port this morning at 8am. I'm tired and annoyed now though. It's rarely worth day drinking unless you can truly chill out the rest of the day.

TheBarbieEffect · 01/09/2023 10:37

YABVU. Alcohol shouldn’t be seen as a treat, that’s how you end up with problems.
