Bad attitude after asking to use the loo in Costa? Pregnancy

Mummatobe98 · 29/08/2023 21:37

I'm only about 12-13 weeks pregnant but need to wee a lot.

I went into a Costa store which I regularly buy coffee in and asked to use their loo. They declined . I said 'I'm pregnant' and the lady at the till reluctantly gave it to me, rolled her eyes and pulled a face at her colleague.

My partner felt like saying something

Am I wrong for asking to use the loo?

I’m going to go against the grain here and say yanbu, I think pregnant women need more consideration. I think women in general need more consideration. There’s no reason for that woman to be rude like that. It’s childish too. Nothing you can do to change it though, seems like it’s the way things are going nowadays.

But she was shown consideration as she was allowed to use the toilets despite not being a customer as soon as she informed them she was pregnant.

Lack of consideration would be if they had still said no.

And again why are private businesses being held to the expectation of providing facilities for everyone instead of people holding councils to account for not making facilities available when it is their actual responsibility?

In what way is it childish?

Costs worker here.

Codes were put onto doors to stop drug addicts shooting up in our toilets. Also, we don't have cleaners. The baristas have to clean up after customers, it's supposed to be hourly but often we don't get a chance. So they're often sprayed with shit and piss. Imagine, we're scrubbing shit one minute, then we're back behind the bar making your coffee the next minute.

Since getting the code locks it hardly happens. The toilets are for customers only

@TallerThanAverage toilet codes are printed on receipts, do they would have to purchase something to get the code. A card bought from Amazon wouldn't do a thing

Its a toilet version of the sunflower lanyard, they do actually do a card that is the same design as the sunflower lanyards. It’s more discreet, it shows that they are prepared for the eventuality of needing the loo and the person reading the card as well as the person needing the loo are less likely to have an attitude about the request. Even if it is from Amazon most people would react more positively to a card with the information on it than not I would expect.

YABU.

You weren't a customer at the time - you could have easily bought something cheap like a bottle of water or bar of something to even the situation out and adhere to the rules like everyone else does, and also not to put the poor staff member you asked in an awkward position.

And stop with the "Horrible comments" stuff, it just makes you look even more whiny than you did in your original post. You asked a question and people answered - it's not their fault you didn't like the answers.

nationallampoons · 01/09/2023 18:08

@TallerThanAverage we don't allow anyone who hasn't purchased an item to use the toilet, but we've had a lot of drug use. We've had customers find needles 🤢 toilets sprayed with shit.
Sinks kicked off the walls etc., it's horrific.

So no purchase, no toilet. Most customers have Costa cards, so if we have damage we can see who used the loo and all details are on their costs card.

When I started I thought I was just going to make coffee, not clean up after smackheads. It's not us being arseholes, it's about safety too

Well said.

Entitled people need to put themselves in employee's ' shoes.

I often feel similar with the nice/nasty celeb threads. Fair enough if a star is deliberately rude and vile with everybody they have any dealings with; but the number of people who will expect celebs to quite cheerfully stop every 15 seconds when they're out with their family for a selfie with fans who keep accosting them.

"Would it really hurt to just let me have a quick selfie?" Well, yes, if it's hundreds of people a day wanting one.
