To ask if Jellycat soft toys are worth buying because of how expensive they are?

My DD wants one (she wants a particular one as well) but I’m not sure if I can justify £55 on a soft toy! Are they worth the money? What are they like in terms of quality? Are they made to last/well made or are they poor quality?

YANBU - they are not worth the money

They can see you coming a mile off.....

daaaaaa · 29/08/2023 19:16

They’re lovely! Well worth it in my opinion

LastMinute123 · 29/08/2023 19:18

My dd is autistic and is obsessed with them. They are expensive but absolutely lovely. I can totally understand the appeal!

Cloudshighupinthesky · 29/08/2023 19:19

This is the one that DD wants but I’m not sure if I can justify the £55 on a soft toy! I’ve told DD I will have a think and decide in the morning.

Do you think it’s worth the money? What are Jellycat toys like in terms of quality?

They are lovely quality, we've got a couple of old, well loved ones. DD collects them now, but she uses her own money as I think that type of money is bonkers. Although their resale value is supposed to be good, if they've been retired.
Is it the Dragon? He's gorgeous.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 29/08/2023 19:20

My DS had one when he was born. He’s now 11 and it’s still in good (if battered!) condition.

Allthecatseverywhereallatonce · 29/08/2023 19:21

Jellycats are beautifully made. My dd has a couple. They are so soft and very sweet.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 29/08/2023 19:21

Both my children still have Jellycat cat soft toys they got got as new borns. Thry have been well loved, well cuddled, dragged around the house, taken on holiday and played with a lot abs have stood the test of time. My DC are very nearly 15 and nearly 12.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/08/2023 19:21

They are gorgeous, but I do baulk at the prices!

trailsofberries · 29/08/2023 19:22

I don't think they're very expensive, but I'm comparing to brands like Kosen which we also have bought in the past.

Yes, they're good value for money and well made.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/08/2023 19:22

Not at all envious of my sister's collection of them. They spent £150 on the large Christmas tree.

nc14 · 29/08/2023 19:26

My DM collects them and DC was given a few when he was born. They’re lovely. I’m a great believer in quality over quantity. If your DD doesn’t have a lot of soft toys already then I’d say it’s worth it.

Cloudshighupinthesky · 29/08/2023 19:26

I told DD that I will have a think about it and let her know in the morning so that is what I will do.

£55 does seem a little expensive for a cake soft toy though! But it seems like they are well made and good quality from what you are all saying so worth the money

It's my go to for a nice cuddly animal for a new baby. My DD age 9 has a teddy and a bunny that are much loved and fab quality he cuddles most nights. Not so sure about that one you've posted just due to the design not looking so cuddly, but it is pretty.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 29/08/2023 19:27

They are lovely and I'd get one for an older kid. Bad idea for a baby in case they then really bond with it and can't sleep without sucking the damn things tail. My daughter's been through nine, I repeat nine, pink bunnies. Nearly bloody bankrupted us!

Scottishskifun · 29/08/2023 19:29

We have quite a few which were given as baby gifts. I would say they are very good quality. If played with everyday then they lose the supersoftness but that's the same with any soft toy. We have only had it on one which was a over loved rabbit every day!

But they are not cheap! Could always try vinted first!

Maybe I got off lightly with DD only being able to sleep.with boob! (I wasn't so keen at the time)

SpottedOnMN · 29/08/2023 19:30

They’re beautiful quality. My adult kids still cuddle Jellycat bunnies that I bought them when they were about 10. I had to replace one when it fell out of her bag coming home from uni!

RicherThanYews · 29/08/2023 19:32

I have 4 (grown ass woman, not a child). I'm my grown up opinion they are excellent quality, well made, super soft and durable through many travels and inter-soft toy battles. I was tempted by the wedding cake one but there is honestly no room. For a special occasion I think they are worth the money.

avocadotofu · 29/08/2023 19:32

I think that they are lovely and really good quality and reasonably priced.

TootenCarMoon · 29/08/2023 19:32

No other soft toy compares according to all my DC. They ask for them still now and they’re teenagers and buy them for friends too.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 29/08/2023 19:33

I was in a shop a few days ago where they sold a big range of them. Don't remember them being quite as expensive as £55, though. They are very lovely and great quality.

One of them was a croissant with legs!

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 29/08/2023 19:33

My dd still has a sheep toy from 2009. It was a gift, but I wouldn’t spend that much on a cuddly toy myself. Though my dd2 like the TY beanie boos.
