To ask if Jellycat soft toys are worth buying because of how expensive they are?

My DD wants one (she wants a particular one as well) but I’m not sure if I can justify £55 on a soft toy! Are they worth the money? What are they like in terms of quality? Are they made to last/well made or are they poor quality?

YANBU - they are not worth the money

My dd is autistic and is obsessed with them. They are expensive but absolutely lovely. I can totally understand the appeal!

Snap! Autistic DD loves them, and they are worth it for us for the pleasure she gets from them.

DramaticAnonymousOverthinker · 29/08/2023 21:03

I don’t think they are worth buying there’s other toys

daisychain01 · 29/08/2023 21:06

That rainbow cake seems to be an outlier.

most of the Amusables range are between £17 and £35.

The little cake is £29 and the burger is £30

£55 is actually hilarious…!!!

There are plenty of well-made toys out there that will last a lifetime, that don’t cost anywhere near £55.

They don’t have the label / cachet attached though, so the poster at the beginning of the thread was right.

TheCave · 29/08/2023 21:09

We promised our daughter some lovebirds we saw in a shop. Went there at the end of holiday only to see the £35 price tag. Nope!

Elvera2 · 29/08/2023 21:12

My dd has the small bunnies attached to a comforter - they're her favourite soothing toy.

You can get a deluxe version of the bashful bunny now which is supposedly made to last longer.

Floralnomad · 29/08/2023 21:12

I’ve spent over that amount on individual soft toys but for some reason I wouldn’t pay that amount for a soft cake , it’s weird really .

StrawberryWater · 29/08/2023 21:12

I don’t like the gimmicky stuff but the stuffed animals are lovely. Ds has a few that we gave him as a baby and even though he’s getting a bit older now (and is into his gaming etc) he still insists on having them around.

Have you seen The Birds? You'd have been inundated with soft toy birds attacking you through the chimney!

You should really check the price before promising.

Not embarrassed at all

@RedRosie I saw that one last month and I love it - the tentacles are fab.

TheChosenTwo · 29/08/2023 21:16

My dc (19, 17 and 11!) still request jellycats in their Christmas stockings! They are lovely and soft, they have collections of some of the classic bears (which I think are really boring personally) and some of the novelty ones (which I prefer) - are they ‘worth’ it? Probably not in terms of cost but in terms of how much they like them it’s worth it to me and them.
They seem really well made and none have ever fallen apart however they are older now and obviously less hard on their things.

You’re right of course - but who would even begin to think a soft toy would be prohibitively (literally!) expensive?!

chocolatenutcase · 29/08/2023 21:19

My DD is 22 and got a jelly cat elephant when she was a baby. It still goes everywhere with her and sits on her bed.

We have that one! And a matching tiny white octopus - I think it has a crown.

Aserena · 29/08/2023 21:30

I love them so just get them for all the children I know!

Bit confused by the one your daughter wants because I’m all about the cute animals, but if that’s the one she likes then the quality will be good, and I would expect it to be soft and squishy.

Kpo58 · 29/08/2023 21:35

I wouldn't get Jellycat toys, not because of the price but because they look old and worn really quickly. I have TY Beanie Buddies that are 20 years old which look like new and Jellycats that are 2 years old looking like they are 20!

Agree - my partner was the one to promise, not me!

MarthaJonesPhone · 29/08/2023 21:50

John Lewis has the rainbow cake. Free click and collect to Waitrose or Co-op. If you don't like it its free to send back. Just drop it back to the supermarket.

MsSquiz · 29/08/2023 21:52

DD1's bedroom is bunny themed, so before she was even born I had bought her one of the giant silver bunny rabbits. She also has 2 of the tiny silver rabbits but only uses 1 at a time (I swap them regularly so they're equally used and washed) and she sleeps with "baby rabbit" every night. She also received lots of them as gifts!

DD2 has a 2 rose pink tiny rabbits (as per DD1's) and a gorgeous midnight blue rabbit.

We also have the Jellycat Elves (a medium & a small) who arrive on 1st December instead of the super creepy "elf on the shelf" elf!

I find them to be really well made, but not stupidly expensive that you don't want them to play with them or take them places.
Both DDs have a small Steiff cuddly toy each that live on a shelf in their bedroom rather than to play with

Starcatty · 29/08/2023 21:57

They are very good quality and perfect for a gift. Jellycat is my go to if I need a baby present. I’ve learnt to buy 2 of them- one for now and one for when baby loses one of them down the line …..

110APiccadilly · 29/08/2023 21:58

We have three, including DD1's specially beloved one, and I'm not normally one for brand loyalty, but they are the nicest soft toys of any I've come across.

That said, I agree that I'd be a bit reluctant to spend £55 on a cuddly cake. How old is your daughter and does she have a birthday any time soon that she could be persuaded to wait for?

FrillyGoatFluff · 29/08/2023 21:01

We have two elephants - Mrs Large Upstairs and Mrs Large Downstairs. DD has no comprehension that Jellycat elephants cannot climb stairs, and only thinks she has one Mrs Large 😂

Aw ❤️

We have a twin Piggy in case of loss. She is called Twiggy.

I made the error of not rotating though so Twiggy is still pink and fluffy and Piggy so isn’t 😂

Whyisthissohard96 · 29/08/2023 22:05

Our daughter is only 6 months old, but we now have a jellycat addiction.

There is:
Barry Bunny
Maisie Meow
Otty the octopus
Allen the avocado
Wilfred the small frog
Frank Fuddlewuddle the lion

We love cuddly toys in general, DP and I have loads of our own and they all have names (complete saddos I know). Jellycat is lovely quality and they cuteness will always draw people in.

Next on my list is the sandwich, and DP really wants the spider (despite being scared of spiders).
